Cloning

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." - Amendment 1, U.S. Constitution. The question of religion and politics is not the same as the question of church and state. Many people take this amendment to mean that the government must not be involved in religion what so ever. This amendment really means that the government can not have state-sponsored religion and outlaw all other religions.
This amendment does not mean that people will not use their own judgment when voting on certain matters that might differ from their religious beliefs. No matter how much the government wants to, or tries to take religion out of politics it is still a part of many peoples lives and it affects their whole being. Citizens who belong to religious groups are also members of the society, and this double association generates complications. Religious beliefs have moral and social implications, and it is appropriate for people of faith to express these through their activities as citizens such as voting and in other political matters. The fact that a sense of ethics and morality are rooted in religious faith does not disqualify them from the political realm. Instead these people contribute to politics just as people who are not religious do. The only difference is that these people are guided by religion instead of just their conscience.
Most of the religious reasons that people have against cloning deal with the value of a human life from the beginning of conception. The legal issues are: If people start creating clones, will these clones be people? Will they have the same rights as humans? Will they be recognized as citizens? Some of the sacrilegious and moral issues are: Will there be a clone society apart from humans? Will cloning create problems with human rights? If clones are not human what would stop people from enslaving them? And the big question: Will clones have a soul?.
