Birth Control methods

The pill can prevent pregnancy very effectively. It works is by making the body think it is already pregnant by upping the hormonal levels that are commonly found in a womans body while she is pregnant. By taking the pill daily a woman can maintain the hormone levels needed to prevent pregnancy. The effectiveness of the pill in comparison to the condom is almost as good but not quite. With typical use it is 95% effective as apposed to the condoms 97%. The pill is not as readily available as the condom and does require a doctor's visit. Not every woman can take the pill; a woman's doctor will have to decide whether or not she can take it. After a prescription is obtained the pill can be purchased from any local drug store. The cost per month is about $28.00 if insurance does not cover it and $8.00 with insurance. The biggest disadvantages of the pill is the female can gain weight, it is not 100% effective, the cost is a little higher than that of a condom and it does not protect either partner from STD's. The pill is however a very popular form of birth controls in the United States and all around the world. .
             The morning after pill is one another form of oral contraceptive available in today's market. Emergency contraceptive is the most common name type for this form of birth control. The morning after pill; not as popular as most other forms of birth control is used as an oops pill, meaning if no other form of birth control was used and intercourse happened the pill can be taken to help prevent pregnancy. The emergency contraceptive can be purchased directly from Planned Parenthood; no questions asked or a prescription for this drug can be obtained by visiting a doctor. The effectiveness of this pill is only 75-89%. The cost depending on whether or not it is sold under prescription is generally $30.00 a pill. The pill works best when taken within 72 hours after sex but can be taken up to 120 hours after.
