Philosophy

Descartes final position is to claim that God is responsible for these interactions. After Descartes, other theories also came about in effort to answer this classic question. These theories included occasionalism and pre-established harmony. Occasionalism holds that all causal interactions along with mind-body interactions are the work of God. Pre-established harmony holds that all mental and physical processes are setup by God, to create the appearance of being causal.
It is my opinion, that Descartes answer to the ultimate mind-body question is a valid one. Although one would first have to believe that there is a God or some type of "super human" being which we could label as God. It is my belief in God that allows me to accept Descartes solution freely. Although I have no physical proof that God exists, I do hold this to be true. Perhaps I believe in God in part because I have always been taught to believe in God, angels, and heaven but I have also formed my own reasons to believe. My main belief there is a God is founded simply upon the fact that we exist, and that we die--the life cycle. Who decides when we die is it humans? Perhaps one could argue that sometimes humans do determine death such as in the cases of suicide or murder. Why then are some of these attempts unsuccessful? Others may say medicine plays a role in when we die. There have been many advances in science and technology to prolong life or to improve the quality of life, but ultimately when it is our time to go, there is nothing more medicine can do for us. The life cycle in itself is proof enough for me to believe in God.
Setting aside the issue of God, I believe there are still ways to show that we do live in to worlds.
