Homeschooling

I would not recommend that anyone be homeschooled past sixth grade unless they had a tutor, someone to answer their questions and give them individual attention. The "teach yourself" method does not work. There was no one to answer my questions on algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry and calculus. My mother knows nothing of those subjects. I"m not saying that she's incompetent but she's not a high school teacher. And whenever I didn't understand what I was working on it was so tempting to cheat, all I had to do was flip to the back of the book for just a quick peek. And who graded my work? Me of course so all I have to do is say I got an A. Homeschooling is a fine way to educate an elementary aged student but not those who have moved on from basic mathematics and English. One advantage of my being homeschooled is that I got to sleep in, but as a result I didn't discipline myself enough to get up at a decent time and get my work done. Also I missed out on the socializing that you get in public/private schools. The only friends I had were the people I worked with because I didn't live in a neighborhood with kids my age. And those "friends" I worked with were really only acquaintances, we never hung out, we just saw each other at work. And now that I think back I wish I had never gotten a job. It was fine at first only working a couple of nights a week, having fifty dollar paychecks. But I got greedy, needed more money, so I got more hours and pretty soon my education was the last thing on my mind, squeezing it in after I got home, before I went to sleep. Working forty hours a week, going in early, coming home late. And when I had spare time I was on the computer or T.V., and I wasn't learning anything, except maybe how to download music or how to get bonus health points for going down the ladder into the secret room . And Mom would say "have you done your school-work for the day?" and I"d always say yes, even if I hadn't.
