O'Keefe, Bearden, Klee


            Georgia O"Keefe, Paul Klee, and Romare Bearden are all talented artists that like to paint abstract images to amplify the idea portrayed. Each artist also uses assorted shapes and various colors to create bold impressions. O"Keefe and Klee use paint such as oil-based or watercolors on canvas whereas Bearden does more work with collages and photomontages. .
             Although similar each artist reflects his or her own mood through their works of art. Romare Bearden constructs memorable images of humanity by observation then he reconstructs those images of life through photos and collages. His mood of "Prevalence of Ritual Tidings" represents a melancholy of longing to flee to a better life. He paid tribute to the intensity of his African-American experience through his art.
             Georgia O"Keefe painted amplified flowers and landscapes as well as geometrically structured views of New York City. She wanted her viewers to see a different observation of usually small unnoticed flowers so she enlarged them so they could be scrutinized. She rejected realism in favor of simplified flat patterns and color harmonies inspired by Japanese art. "Jack in the Pulpit" is a painting inspired by her teacher - her teacher brought the flower so the students could appreciate its shape and color. O"Keefe decided to enlarge and paint so everyone could examine them closer.
             Paul Klee is a Swiss artist that used watercolors , newspaper, and black base. His fluid curving lines defined his abstract shapes. Klee flattened and abridged solid masses of forms so it would emphasize the unbelievable, dream-like quality of the subject. In his work, "Bird", the unusual positioning of the upside-down bird suggests a moment in time without motion. He used the visual elements of line, shape, time, color, and light to illuminate and enhance the yellow color of the birds and unusual colors of the leaves.
             Georgia O"Keefe, Paul Klee, and Romare Bearden are all fabulous artist that produce art of nature which make me notice and appreciate the things around me.
