Avril Lavigne


            
             Avril Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984 in Nappanee, Ontario, Canada. Her skater-punk band consists of Evan, the guitarist, who is used to be in a band called "Spinfire", Matt, the drummer, is good friends with Jay from Sum 41, and was recommended to her by Sum 41, and then there's Mark, her bass player. He is the former bassist of Sum 41. They are from Napanee, Ontario as well. Her influences include Coldplay and Sum 41.
             On a trip to New York City, Avril caught the attention of Antonio "LA" Reid, who snapped her up and signed her to Arista Record Company. At age 16, she moved to Manhattan and began work on her debut CD. Her debut album is Let Go, which was released on June 4, 2002, has gone quintuple-platinum and already sold over 10 million copies. She is currently working on her second album. Her best known album is Let Go. Her most well known songs are "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi", "Losing Grip," and "I"m With You.".
             She won MTV's Best New Artist award in 2002, Radio Disney's Best Female Artist, Best Song for "Complicated," and Best Album for Let Go. Avril Lavigne was the recipient of five Canadian Radio Music Awards as well. Avril won the Best New Solo Artist for the Rock category, the Best New Group, the Best New Solo Artist, the Fan's Choice Award, as well as the Songwriter Award. Avril Lavigne has been nominated for six Juno Awards, which is Canada's equivalent of the Grammy's. The categories Avril has been nominated in are the Juno Fan Choice Award, Single of the Year for "Complicated," Album of the Year for Let Go, New Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Pop Album of the Year for Let Go. She was also the recipient of an NME Carling Award in the category of "Most Sexy Woman", beating out such competition as Kylie Minogue, Charlotte from Ash, and Christina Aguilera, along with many others. While recently in Singapore, Avril was also the recipient of three MTV Asia Awards in the categories of Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Breakthrough Artist, and the Style Award.
