Globalization

Some people view the World Trade Organization or WTO as a ruthless power only being ran by hegemonic powers that have no concern but for their own interest. That they have no concern for the downfall of economies or poorer countries. However, I disagree and feel that the WTO is bringing the world closer together and the WTO is breaking down barriers of trade that once before were impossible to obtain. The WTO has achieved what many people believed would be impossible and many people yet still believe that they have not yet achieved anything of significance. The WTO in fact is an organization that is concerned with globalization on all levels, for all countries, whether poor or rich, they try to reach out to all and make sure their laws are fair to all and they rule with great dignity and legitimacy. .
In order to have globalization or at least in an effort to have globalization you first must have a coordinator. At first the GATT was introduced in the 1940's after WWII in an effort to break down on trade barriers in order to have freer trade. The GATT did do a great effort in breaking down trade tariffs and quotas. However the GATT was too broad and in order to have greater liberalization of trade the WTO became into being. The WTO is more like a sheriff and plays a role of making sure all members that belong to the WTO play fairly and follow the laws that have been set. They also play the role of judge. They try to settle disputes between countries in order to make sure trade is not effected by disputes between countries and that trading is following the rules of the WTO. They make sure that countries are not using protectionism in order to protect their markets and economies from outside forces. They do a number of many other things but their main job is in securing the liberalization of trade in order to have globalization, which I will discuss.
In 1999 the EU outlawed beef from the United States and Canada that had been treated with hormones.
