Philosophy

For me, teaching has always seemed like the perfect profession. I have the utmost admiration for children especially for early adolescents and the many capabilities and insights they possess about the world around us. I think nurturing their wide range of individually inquisitive minds is such an important job. Obviously just enjoying middle level students and their companionship is not the only reason one should pursue education. Personally I never could see myself in a career that involved doing the same monotonous thing every day. Being in a classroom swarming with veracious appetites for learning and exploring actively rather then passively will not be boring or mundane. I also find that I am someone who needs to be challenged and working with the young mind could be the most challenging phenomenon. Truly I see education as a team effort with the students and adults. I think I will learn as much from the students as they will learn from me. If not I am not truly finding out how best to serve students if I don't learn enough about them. While I am always authentically assessing my students" progress I also want them to assess my own performance as their teacher and reflect on what I can learn from them. I am devoted to making an impact on each and every child I encounter because they deserve nothing less. I want to make learning meaningful to my early adolescent students by bring in their own interest by having peer interactions as well as developing curriculum that includes challenging, integrated, and exploratory. I also believe I am able to contribute to the field of education with my collaborative abilities to work with a diverse group of people. I would want my students to also be able to do this so I would hope to include service learning projects into my curriculum so to have them participate in real life situations and develop family and community partnerships.
