The protesters in Seattle, Prague, and Genoa represent movements to stop the process of globalization. Numerous groups have made their ways to these sites of international meeting to protest an abundance of according to them unlawful and unfair internaltional trade polisies. While most of these groups have their own prized agendas they come together in an all-start game format to show their force at conferences and meetings of such organiziations as the IMF, International Monotary Fund, the WTO, World Trade Organization, and many other international leader ship summits. These organizations goals include control over the "spear heads" of globalization such as the WTO and the IMF, for some extreme oraganizations control over the spread of globalization is not enough, they demand full seizure globalization activities and are prepaired to use "direct action" which may and usually dose involve violence. Other greater part of groups on the other hand agree that the WTO regulations of wages, health benegits, enviormental issues, chemichal produce enhancement, bio-engineering of agriculture crops, animal rights should be closely reexamined and revised. The overvelming majority of these groups demand that the WTO and IMF meeting in particular be conducted in a more democratic manner and be open to view to the public.
One must ofcourse understand that the WTO, IMF, and similar oraginizations, serve a much needed purpose, in the world today. They provide rules and regulations on conduction of international trade, including, tariffs, sanctions, and monetary exchange regulations. The also facilitate expansion and balanced growth of international trade. Besides those essential functions, many beneficial actions are taken to better the international community as a whole. Such activities include: promotion of stability in countries with great economic turmoil; creation of jobs in populations with high unemployment rates; promotion and maintenance of high levels of employment; elimination of foreign exchange restrictions that might hamper the growth of world trade; provision of loans and input of investements in to third world countries; and many others.
