The study will be used as an evaluative measure in a goal to reduce and possibly prevent suicide among youth. As of 2002 suicide was the "3rd leading cause of death among 15-19 year olds". Children with depression are difficult to diagnose and most parents are unsure of the severity of psychological problems because children are constantly development and going through differing stages of development along with these stages comes changes in behavior. Children experiencing depression typically withdraw themselves and may turn to drugs or alcohol to cope. A problem may not be verified until a child is in a drastic situation. As stated by Waslick (as cited in Lamberg, 2002) "Some young people, unfourtunately, first come to a physician's attention only in the throes of a suicidal crisis" which leads to the pertainance of this investigation. The goal is prevention based on proper treatment due to the fact that "40% of teenagers who commit suicide made an earlier attempt". With a greater understanding of therapeutic effectiveness.
