Healthier Lifestyle

While at work finishing a presentation, you smell smoke. Suddenly the fire alarm sounds; it's time to evacuate. Following emergency procedures you head for the fire escape, only to realize that the fire is on a lower level. Instructed to proceed upstairs, you realize you may not make it, you are short of breath. The shortness of breath is not from the smoke or heat, it's because you are out of shape. The fire is extinguished immediately, but you realize that changes are needed in your life, and these changes include exercise. Exercise is essential; utilizing proper strength training, aerobic exercise, and a dieting plan can help you achieve a healthier lifestyle. .
The first component of a good exercise plan is strength training. Strength training increases stamina, induces weight loss, helps the body lose weight two ways. First, strength training sessions result in an increase in daily energy expenditure. Second, body metabolism increases because of increased muscle mass. Strength training is easier than it appears. You can start with a few dumbbells, or free weights. If you want to increase the resistance, or don't feel confident using free weights, there are many strength training machines on the market. If you are a woman, weight lifting will not give you huge muscles like the women on the cover of the weight lifting magazines. This only happens with extreme amounts of time-spent weight lifting. However, you will get a trimmer, toned body. Remember, you should always see a doctor before beginning strength training or any exercise program. While exercises such as strength training provide strength to the muscles, they do little for the fitness of the heart. Aerobic exercises strengthen the heart and lungs and are the second component of the fitness routine. .
Examples of good aerobic exercises include: walking, running, jogging, swimming, cross-country skiing, rowing, rope skipping, dancing, racquet sports, and cycling.
