A "good woman" is to be pure and innocent of any sexual encounters. Purity is best understood in terms of it's opposite meanings; dirty, filthy, guilty. Tess was a woman who was once "pure" but her life has now been destroyed and dissipated because of sexual misdeeds. She suffered from a violation that she did not want to take part of and that was not of her own action and has to live her life as an impure woman. Tess has had to take responsibilities of other people's actions and those actions lead to her downfall in society. Hardy uses Tess's submissiveness to her parents and Alec d'Urbervill...
In class last week, we viewed a film from 1996 called "Sling Blade". It was not my first time watching it because a lot of people in my family love that movie, so we always watch it! I love this movie due to the fact that it portrayed a handicap man who had real mental issues but in a positive way. Not many people see disabled in this type of perspective so I like the fact that the movie was this way. Sling Blade is about a disabled man named Karl who was locked away in a mental hospital for the murder of his mother and a local man named Jessie. Once Karl is released he is forced to live life ...

I review the steps surprised with the simplicity of the process, holding the controls to discover that they are as easy to use as I was taught. I look down at the world in ... ...
Costumes play a key role in making a successful play. They are able to set the mood, add realism to the storyline, not to mention they give you an idea of what the character is like. Costumes also give the audience an idea of a character's personality or attitude, the time frame of the show, and make the show more convincing for the audience. Costumes are also important because it helps an actor find his/her character. And when it comes down to it, if the actors are not believable as their characters then the audience won't suspend their disbelief. At the Ark at Eight is a beautifully written ...

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a movie that made me laugh and inspired me to follow my dreams. The movie follows the romance of Toula and Ian from first meeting to the wedding. The story is that Toula, a thirty-ish Greek woman living with her very traditional Greek family in Chicago, meets Ian Miller, a non-Greek university professor, and it is the relationships between the families and the traditions that Toula's family have that make the movie so funny. The reason that this romantic comedy made me laugh was the fact that it was something I could see happening. Although it was Americanized and a...
... Cohen brothers other films, (the Big Lebowski might be the funniest movie ever!) but O" Brother seems too familiar to be considered a great film. In this respect I agree with Roger Ebert's review that the movie "contains sequences that are wonderful in themselves - lovely short films - but the movie never really shapes itself into a whole." The Cohen brother's made great strides in cinematography ... ...
Jim's escape from freedom is not a well-laid out plan, just rather a lucky turn of events. Jim heard of being sold down river and ran away for the island in the river and if Huck didn't fake his death and preoccupy the town Jim probably would have been captured. When the two got on the raft and headed down river Huck protected Jim in a couple of close encounters like in the small pox incident. After meeting the Duke and King Jim had a easier time of hiding out, yet his search for freedom took a back seat to the Duke and King's greedy exploits. The King then turns around and sells Jim for $40 a...

A Doll's House is a play that describes how the main character, Nora, tries to figure out her true self. She goes through many challenges and tries to block out what is really going on. In the end, she finally notices how she really feels. I think this book has many parts that I enjoyed, but also had some components that I didn't like. One of the reasons I liked this play is because Nora kept lying which helped me to anticipate what could happen next. For example, when Nora ate the macaroon in the beginning of the play I had no idea how Torvald would react if he caught her. It gave the play s...
