If there is no struggle there is no progress Progression is almost impossible without a struggle in one way or another. The struggle usually involves sacrificing and continuing regardless of ups and downs. Prominent leaders are often times great examples of the correlation between struggling and progression. There are few successful leaders that did not struggle at some point on their ladder to greatness and success. On some occasions a person may have fame and fortune but did not have to struggle to have it. Sometimes a person can have these things through family inheritance or by twisted fat...

It is often called America's first great war novel, yet Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage is more than just a tale about the civil war. Each person goes through his or her own personal struggle during the process of maturing. Some have this easy; others strive very hard to reach this goal of development. Although there may be constant struggles, there usually is one major event that creates somewhat of a bridge between childhood and adulthood. The Red Badge of Courage traces the steps and major events in the life of Henry Fleming, focusing mainly on his evolution into manhood. We meet H...
... their life. Many times after a family member or close friend dies a person needs something to take their mind of the grief and give them something that makes sense to compensate for their pain. Other people turn to obsessive behavior to make a routine that can make their "out of control" lifestyle in control. In reality what the person thinks is in control ... ...
Granted I have been granted a life. A life guaranteed to be fulfilled with love, praise and perpetual freedom. Life has its faults, altercations and unfairness, But learning from the pain, the misery and the dereliction; It gives us strength to forestall from future problems that may surpass us during our frantic frenzy of an illusion. Fretful we may become, waiting on the dreams that we've longed for and the image our loved ones once wanted. Futile we may be, due to the fact that others are jealous of our accomplishments and refuse to see us in such a fortuitous state. Friendly we have to be,...
This extraordinary novel tells about a Japanese family that struggles to remain a family while living in an internment camp. The only thing that gave them the endurance and heart to go on was their national anthem. "May thy peaceful reign last long. May it last for thousands of years, Until this tiny stone will grow into a massive rock, and the moss will cover it deep and thick." This family goes through many hardships while living in Manzanar, some of them being having to live in barracks, living with a drunken father, and not eating their traditional foods. In my opinion, "Farewell to Manzan...
Beowulf is a classic epic here of the early English literature. He shows all the characteristics of an great epic hero of the times. He is has the strength of imaginable power there is no stronger. For instants in the poem "Then he stepped to another still body clutched at a strong-hearted wakeful sleeper and was instantly seized hims...
Alzheimer's Disease Imagine a person you love is wandering the streets not knowing who or what anything is! Imagine, a police officer asking you where you last saw this person! Imagine looking for them and having to always tell them who you are! These can be the affects of Alzheimer's disease (Alzheimer's). Alzheimer's disease is a loss of memory and it can be temporary or permanent depending on how severe the case is. The cause of Alzheimer's disease is currently unknown, but researchers believe that it is one of the following, a slow virus, an auto immune reaction (the body attacks itself), ...
... I would help my friend out. This is an acceptable lie but a lie that I think would be unacceptable would be a lie used to save yourself from something bad that you did. For an example, say that you cheated on a test and the teacher found your cheat notes later. The next day she asks the class whose they are, and you say that ... ...
What is the best sport in America? Basketball is the best sport in America. The reason why basketball is the best sport is because it takes the most skill to play than any other athletic sport. Basketball also takes a lot class because fans can judge the way players act much easier than other sports. Basketball has the most skill involved than any other sport in the country. A basketball player must be able to jump, pass, shoot, dribble, be quick, and many more features the game involves. A person must b...
While reading the Greek play, Antigone, sadness and despair came to mind. The characters" fate in the play all seems to be doomed for death and tragedy. There were many conflicts that occurred throughout the play whether it is between choosing family over the law, high class and low class, or the decision to ... makes a person want to keep on reading to find out what happens next. There is always a twist behind every corner. I was overcome with sadness that each character's fate was destined for death. I felt lost throughout parts in the play because the author did not fully explain or expre...
Stress is a huge problem for me in my time of life. Stress occurs when we adapt or adjust to the environment, mentally or physically. Every day there's something new that's stressful. My car will break, tests coming up, all at once of course. All of a sudden they"ll be a problem between me and one of my girl friends. Then to top it off, and it's not even anything hard or so aggravating, my mom would ask me to do something for her after my hard day and school and work, and then I just flip out. There's many ways to release stress though. We've learned in class about taking the yoga breaths and ...
... were beat, but I never really heard to what extent. Throughout the first ten chapters of this book it talks about how slaves were beat to near death many, many times. For example, just when the book starts in the very first chapter Fredrick Douglas talks about his very first experience of seeing someone getting beaten. He saw his Aunt Hester get ... they treated them, is when in the second or third chapter Fredrick Douglas talks about how if the master caught anybody with tar on them they would beat them horribly for supposedly trying to steal fruit. An additional thing that truly amaze...

Everyone during this generation wished to share their stories to others in order for them to be informed. Brokaw took much time and effort to correctly research many of the characters experiences. "In the higher world form of good appears last of all, and is seen only with effort." -Plato I think that this summarizes a part of life that at least I couldn't summarize in only one sentence. What Plato is describing is how if you work hard, put in lots of effort, you will see results. Goodness only comes when a person wants to see it, and doesn't take advantage of it. When a person works really hard toward something in particular, and is dedicated to it, they will get what they were working for. Plato realizes that this method of getting what you want is possible, depending on the size of t...
There are many ways to break bad habits, different techniques work well with various bad habits. How difficult the bad habit is to break depends on what it is, for example, it is a lot easier to quit biting your fingernails then to quit smoking cigarettes. The technique I will explain works well with smaller bad habits such as biting your fingernails, or cracking your knuckles. First, you must realize that you have a problem with your bad habit. Biting your fingernails for example, some people do this when they"re nervous. The best way to stop is to think about not doing it. When you catch you...
What is an ideal hero in epics? An ideal epic hero, a king or a warrior, in Beowulf is similar to that in the Odyssey and many other ancient tales. The whole kingdom will know him. He is always brave and larger-than-life strong. For example, in his battle with the monster Grendel, Beowulf used "bare hands", not some magic sword or an army of football players. The hero is also clever, he outsmarts the enemy with his seemingly mortal capabilities. He likes to brag about himself and his powers a lot, showing his self-esteem and pride. For instance, Beowulf wants the world to know about his majest...
Everyone wants what they can't have. Today in our society this seems to be especially true; people are compromising their morals for fame, money, power, and status. They strive to attain these things without knowing the true consequences of their actions. Twenty-one is the magic age, with it comes a new-found ... the worst problem with alcohol, but yet has the highest, strictest drinking age. Is there a solution to this widespread societal problem? I believe if the drinking age was lowered the desire for teens to drink would also lower dramatically. If this proved to be a helpful solution ma...
Beowulf and Shane are two similar stories. Both have important people yet the settings are in total different places. Beowulf and Shane both do a good deed for their society. In the story Shane, Shane is the main character. Beowulf and Shane are heroes in these stories, not just because they are so commonly seen in the story, but for what they do. Beowulf saved all the violence by killing Grendal and hi...
