Perhaps even more important than increased employment opportunities and higher salaries are the knowledge and skills college graduates gain. Dave Ramsey, a popular financial author and radio host who focuses on helping people get out of debt, feels a college education is very important and stated, A solid education helps a young person begin his or her life and career with much more confidence and quality. In a newspaper article for the Salt Lake Tribune,Olene Walker states,educated women tend to: give birth to healthier babies, have children who are healthier, be more confident, resilient and have improved reasoning and judgment. The For the Strength of Youth booklet teaches, Education is an important part of Heavenly Fathers plan . . .the education you gain will be valuable to you during mortality and in the life to come. It further teaches, Education is an investment that brings great rewards and will open the doors of opportunity that may otherwise be closed to you. Getting a college education is about more than making money. College graduates gain a broad knowledge base, strong study skills, and increased self-confidence.
One concern of those who argue that a college education is not worth it, is that many college graduates are employed in jobs that do not require a bachelors degree. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that 44% of recent college graduates in 2012 were employed in jobs that did not require their college degree. Jordan Weissmann qualifies, They're having trouble finding work because everybody is. William Dudley, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, commented that these statistics are comparable to the 80s and early 90s and that then as now most college graduates eventually make it into jobs that require their college degree. Even with a college degree it is unrealistic to expect to start at the top of the career ladder. .
Student loan debt is another concern.
