President Kennedy's design was to give minorities the opportunity to find decent jobs ( ). Many loved the new proposal from President Kennedy, but it would cause problem in the near future. Many U.S. citizens believed that affirmative action would weaken the American system by discriminating against the more qualified workers ( ). For example, even though someone is more qualified than a minority, it is a good chance they would not receive a job. Affirmative action was created to help minorities rise over the barriers of discrimination that were present at the time. Civil rights movement and affirmative action at the same time racial tension was at its peak ( ). The government believed that since white males occupied that most of corporate positions, this was the right time to execute affirmative action ( ). Many people believed that affirmative action is reverse racism and would cause many problems in the workplace ( ). Congress then voted that who ever scored the best on a test that they gave would get the job ( ). That was the only rational situation to do at that time. In the 1970's President Ronald Reagan furthered affirmative action, as he wanted all businesses to have a colorblind mentality (Auerbach 35). Affirmative action advanced over the years up until today. There are a few associations created to help with affirmative action. One is the American Association for Affirmative Action, which manage affirmative action, equal opportunity, and other programs. This organization was founded in 1974 and is recognized for the design to help employment opportunity that deprives people to live and work well ( ). Due to these types of organizations minorities can have jobs their able to perform if they choose (Pasour). .
