Cloning

There could also be the question of who are the parents? The birth parents or the donor who donated their genes to the family. There is wide debate on the ethics involved in cloning. Scientist have stated that it will greatly enhance the life of humans, while those against it believe that it is unethical and that the use of the research will go beyond what it was intended for. The argument is clearly stated in this statement, "Shut that research down, argue the scientists, and the most promising frontier in medicine is suddenly off limits. Let it proceed, say opponents, and you have crossed a line toward the manufacture of humans as tools, and there is no going back"(Time Magazine). .
Scientists believe that the ability to research stem cells is a therapeutic necessity for life, that it would be able to cure many diseases or even prevent them from occurring, but it also gives scientists and doctors the option of growing organs to replace old and diseased ones. This would be accomplished by creating a clone of the patient, but without a head, only the vital organs would be functioning, then take the needed parts and put them in the patient. "Human beings should not be cloned to stock a medical junkyard of spare parts for experimentation,"(Time Magazine Issue: August 13, 2001 Vol. 158 No. 6) This process that is talked about in the article would, allow humans to live well beyond the ages that the oldest people of today can reach. Again, it is shown how stem-cell research would alter the cycle of human life. Although this would do wonders for business at retirement homes, funeral homes would not be so appreciative. Embryo cloning should be seen as a threat to our principles and our ideals. Some thing should change while others should stay as they are; the latter should be used in respect to cloning.
Cloning is no easy task, the successful cloning of the first animal - a lamb named Dolly - was the result of 277 cloning attempts (Independent, author not stated).
