Stand Up

For many years, and still even today people are blind to the fact that homosexuality exists in the rule areas of the U.S. The affect of the blindness of rural America we come to believe that on one is like us. So we reject ourselves, believe what other people tell us about ourselves, we confine our thoughts and feelings into a corner where we fester and eat at ourselves. Researchers at the Massachusetts Department of Education have found that 46% of homosexual youth attempt suicide, which is insanely high when you set 8.8% of heterosexual youth side by side. .
I come from a very religious background six years of catholic schooling then attended 4 more years of catholic religion classes, I also was a C.Y.O (Catholic Youth Organization) member, where homosexuality is a taboo. As I progressed to my seventh grade year, I began to notice that the guys on the football team were a whole lot more attractive than the cheerleaders. Later that year I was required to attend the sexual education class where they discussed briefly about homosexuality, and where the school exaggerated how it was the #1 way to get an S.T.D. I took my background, and the sex education class, put two and two together. Some how I arrived at the false conclusion that god put A.I.D.S on earth just to punish homosexuals. I prayed nearly night that I would not become one of "them" that this is nothing more than a stage which every guy goes through. I tried dating girls, but I felt like I was an imposter. I have never been a self-reserved kind of person; as a result I ended up telling most of my friends (who happened to be nearly all female). A couple of them told me that they already thought they knew, but they were not sure how to go about confirming it. Inspired by my best friend Jody who had just came out and had so much self-confidence, and so much pride; I couldn't resist I just had to do it. After long thought and discussion with friends I finally did it at the end of my freshman year.
