According to Marx the reason England was the dominant economic and military power in the 1800's was because of their great military and merchant naval practices. In other words since England is in an island it is only natural that they have a pretty strong navy to defended their territory. An efficient merchant marine system was also a must in England because the country needed to import or export materials in order to make a profit. Because of their great naval practices England was able to become the largest industrial country in the world by the 1800's. In no time England's system of government evolved from a feudal/mercantile system of government to a capitalist form of government. This happened because the feudal/mercantile system of government composed of lords and monarchs, created insecurity with the merchants and bankers, the source of money for the feudal/mercantile system of government, and ultimately were forced to yield power to the merchants and bankers. With more power over the government merchants and bankers were able to create a system that was very favorable to their interest. The system that was created was a commercial system called capitalism. The development of the factory, the institution of the assembly line and the British laws that took farmer's rights to use common land were examples of how the merchants changed the system of government.
Both the development of factories and the creation of the assembly line generated a tremendous necessity of people to work in those factories to produce goods faster. This great demand was met by the migration of peasants, who were bankrupt due to the new British laws banning the use of common lands or were unemployed, from rural areas in England and Ireland to the developing urban centers that had factories. By using industry as the economic backbone for the population, these urban centers grew and the workers were exposed or required to operate the factory's machinery.
