Reality

In last couple years there has been a new craze that has swept our nation, and that is Reality TV. Why is Reality Television (TV) so popular? What is it about shows in which they take normal people like you and me and put them on TV and expose every aspects of there lives. The personal, emotional, and physical characteristics of these people's lives are broadcasted for millions of people to watch, as they compete, But only to win a large sum of money or a date in some cases. Why do we enjoy watching other people so much?.
In some cases I believe that some of us watch these shows because we are truly interested in other people behaviors. How other people react under stress, happiness or pressure. In other cases, we enjoy seeing people suffer in the amazon for a month with small amounts of food and water, we enjoy seeing them stab each other in the back, or losing the one they love because of temptation. We the people that watch these shows that seemed to get us hooked and the one that make them what they are popular. All of these shows are popular because of the viewers.
Although, they call all of these shows reality they truly aren't real. If sleeping in the amazon with fifteen strangers, competing daily for prizes or another nights rest there, is what is real to people, then that is something new that I have never seen before. Some parents do pick who there children date, but on the Television show Meet My Folks, the parents spend many days with three ladies or Gentlemen, trying to decide whether or not one of them is the right person for there child. Each day includes giving them a lie detector test and revealing incriminating secrets about them. The things in these shows show real people, but they do not show these real people doing anything real.
Last, Producers have done everything from seperating people in love and putting them on an island with many people of the opposite sex (Temptation Island) or putting "celebrities" out in the middle of nowhere.
