So far, I am taking high school courses which are U.S. history and civil government. , then I need to join in SAT training class to pass SAT exam. Also, GRCC offers associated degree in Art, which is needed for my major, advertising. According to degree audit in GRCC's website, I need to take prerequisites classes in order to reach the requirement of AA degree, like, ENGL& 101, Natural Science, Social Science. These basic skills can push me into advertising industry in depth.
After getting AA degree, I will continue to get my bachelor degree to go further my career. A bachelor degree normally takes two more years longer than AA degree to complete and are usually considered the minimum level of education needed to work in specific career. As Occupational Outlook Handbook, education tab points out, "A bachelor's degree is required for most advertising, promotions, and marketing management positions". Bachelor degree is more beneficial than AA degree because it shows a greater depth of study of studying and more acknowledge in the primary field of study. I will complete my AA degree at GRCC, then hope I will be able to transfer to The University of Texas at Austin (UT) to gain bachelor degree of Advertising. The biggest benefit of choosing UT is that provides the largest advertising departments in the country, and provides one of the few P.H.D. 's advertising programs. Before transferring to UT, student must earn 90 or more credits in community college. Also, a 3.0 GPA is generally considered the minimum necessary for strong consideration at UT. Based on the University of Texas at Austin website states, it shows students must complete Advertising 378 (Topic 20: Account Planning); three hours from Advertising 378 (Topic 4, 17, or 19); three hours from Advertising 377M (Topic 1, 2, or 3); and three additional hours of coursework in advertising. There are several programs have offered for student to extend their professional learning outside a regular college classroom in UT.
