The Life of Malcolm X


"After the 8th grade things began to change, Malcolm never went back to school" ("Malcolm X." 1). It was difficult for Malcolm to finish his education with such a hectic lifestyle. "Although Malcolm wished to become a Lawyer, his dream didn't come true. Malcolm's teacher had told him that was "no realistic goal for a nigger"" ("Malcolm X." 1). He began to realize that he was being judged on the basis of his color rather than his capabilities. He became withdrawn and quiet towards the Swerlins; his detention home due to his defiant behavior. Malcolm's sister, Ella, from Boston, Massachusetts would frequently visit him and eventually took custody. .
             In Boston, Malcolm was more attracted to the street life in the Ghetto surroundings rather than his sister's upper class society in Roxbury, a city in Boston. He eventually meets people who make a negative impact on his life there. He begins to search for jobs and his friend eventually gives him one. Malcolm eventually works as a shoeshine boy at a ballroom and it becomes the center of his social life. "He becomes a hustler and spends his free time with pimps and thieves" ("Malcolm X." 1).
             He begins to date a white woman,Sophia. During the twentieth century it was not only frowned upon but you could get into serious trouble with the law. After awhile he leaves and begins to work on the railroad, this eventually led to his first trip in New York City. He eventually lives in Harlem, New York. He gets a job at a famous Harlem club as a waiter. Malcolm is eventually fired for spy of a prostitute. .
             When Malcolm gets into trouble, he engages in selling Marijuana, stick ups, and bootlegging. He eventually runs into trouble and goes back to Boston. "Malcolm forms a burglary ring with his friend Shorty, Sophia, and her sister" (Burlingame 33). "He is caught for trying to have a stolen watch repaired and is sentenced to 10 years in prison" ("Malcolm X.
