VIolence in sports

It seems to be every Canadian's dream to play hockey for Team Canada and wear the Maple Leaf on their jerseys. But what do we have to do to get to that level? Violence in hockey is demanded by fans and players and it will always be an integral part to the sport despite the attempts to reduce it. .
Many fans always become excited when they see two players drop their gloves. It is like a sudden rush of adrenaline because watching two players shed blood seems to be the fun part of the game. Who would have thought shedding blood during a hockey game would be the highlight of the night? It seems as though that more often fighting is more important than skating and checking more important than scoring. Or does it really appear to be like that? It may appear to many people like that because they may not be interested in the sport and do not know that hitting will always be apart of the game. Others will gladly disagree. Some will say that if there were not at least a few hits in a game then it just would not be the same. Clearly this is a controversial subject that has been debated by the NHL. If a team plays well and hits, fans will pack the arenas, which equal to a great amount of money. A team can be rough and aggressive and fans will buy to see. Another team can be fast but not as aggressive and fans will still buy to see. Either way it will always be a win, win situation. Most fans that know hockey for what it's worth, know that the sport is not always about hitting, and that it is about the how a team can match up to their opponents. NHL stars are seen as idols for most minor hockey players all over the world. So when their favourite NHL star takes out another player they learn from what they see and attempt to do it themselves. Children at this age see fighting as an asset to the game, which they should not because it isn't. They should not be taught by coaches that hurting the best player on the opposing team will give them a better chance to win.
