Remember the titans

However, he knew he had no choice but to keep the position because he had nowhere to go with his family. Later in the film he is told that he would lose his job with one lose. .
Second, racism (the belief that some races are by nature superior to others) by the dominant culture was evident. It seemed that all the white members of the team were racist at the beginning of the movie, only knowing the ways in which they were taught by their parents to respond towards minorities. This was shown when the team had to go to football camp for two weeks. Coach Boone and Yoast knew that in order for the team to excel, they would have to learn to get along and that they may not like each other, "they would respect each other". At first this task was quite hard, but Coach Boone's approach towards the situation was handled very nicely. He began to teach the players to be a team. He had them sit on the two busses according to football positions and when they got to camp he the person you sat next to on the bus was your roommate. He made sure that each player sat on the bus and roomed with a different race. Fights did brake out but was greeted with more practices and early morning runs. .
On one particular morning run Coach Boone took the team to the Gettysburg burial ground. He plainly explained to them how 50,000 men died fighting the same fight (racism) that they were still fighting among themselves and if they didn't take lessons from the dead, everyone would be destroyed. The friendship between two players Gerry (white) and Julius (black) on the defense team began to develop because both realized that Coach Boone was trying to make a winning team and it did not matter what color a player was but that the best player for the position would play. Gerry and Julius had a conversation and Gerry explained to Julius that his attitude was bad and that he was only looking out for himself.
