The soldiers morale had begun to fade, and they feared they would be pushed back right off the peninsula and out of the war. This changed when they reached hill 303, first occupied by American troops, then taken by North Koreans, then retaken by Americans. Here, they found the bodies of 26 motormen, killed execution-style, their helmets, shoes and personal belongings taken and stacked up. The tragedy strengthened the soldiers resolve, however, and they were ready to get back at the north Korean savages for their brutality. .
             To end the stalemate at Pusan, MacArthur devised a risky plan to stage an amphibious attack behind enemy lines. To protect the North Korean border, Mao sends 500,000 troops in Manchaun to backup North Korean troops. .
             The American troops, victorious and at ease finally, confident that the war was all but over, spent their time relaxing, believing they were on their way to set up one last defense before being released home. Orders to MacArthur by Truman told him to halt proceeding at the first sign of Chinese soldiers.
