Elsa is twenty-four years old, and she is an Indonesian. She is very talkative, and she talks often. That made me want to interview her. Elsa came to the United States with her family twelve years ago. At that time she was only six. Interesting enough Elsa is the only child in the family; therefore, she is dependent on her family. One particular thing I admire about her is that she can speak three different languages. Since she grew up in Indonesia, she is knowledgeable in Javanse, and she is also able to speak English and little bit of Chinese. However, Elsa no longer practices Chinese because she needs to adapt to her new environment, America, by learning English. Most of the time Elsa forces herself to speak English and ignore the other languages, even her primary language. I found Elsa a very special person, and a very strong person from the interview.
Besides finding about Elsa's talent in languages, I was also interested about Elsa's adopted to the United States. Expectedly, Elsa told me that she was adopted from her white parents to come to United States for a better living. In Indonesia, people could not find a good paying job and living was harsh. Her parents earning in Indonesia was not affordable for the whole family. Fortunately, there was a chance for Elsa to come to the United States to help her parents on financially in America. Even though, the United States is a big opportunity for Elsa's parents to start a new life but unfortunately, Elsa's parents does not want to come to the United States, because they will faced numerous problems in living in this new environment. Elsa continues, "It was really hard for my parents to find a job here. First of all, they could not speak English and needed to attend ESL (English Second Language) classes. Secondly, my family needed to keep in touch with their Indonesian culture and the people. There was not much they can do with the Americans".
