Cloning

Since everyone gives off cells all the time naturally, as in lost hairs or skin cells, it is conceivable that a person could be cloned without their knowledge or consent. Each cell given off contains a full complement of DNA. Even such things as blood samples or a trip to the dentist could be the source for such activity. While such action would be essentially criminal, there is no way to stop it from a scientific standpoint. Such cloning could allow people to fulfill a number of fantasies for the unscrupulous. The commercial value of an athletic pedigree or a well known singing voice, or the ability to have children of otherwise impossible parents would make such cloning attractive to certain segments of society who prey on others for money . Thus, human cloning has a number of ethical pitfalls. .
The first thing that comes to mind when you say cloning a human is to make a superhero type figure with superior powers or a dominant master race. But this is not the case; there are many positive intentions for cloning humans. What if a 3-year-old child is killed in a car accident? The parents could then have the child cloned and reborn as a newborn. Also the potential exists to cure, or at least treat, certain diseases and disorders that cannot be effectively handled today. This is through the process of Therapeutic cloning.
For Therapeutic cloning a DNA sample would be taken from a sick patient. Then the sample would be inserted into an embryo in place of its original DNA. Then the stem cells would be removed from the embryo. The embryo would be killed in the process. Then the stem cells would be placed into whatever tissue or organ is needed. Then the tissue or organ would be transplanted into the patient. The procedure would save lives, which would otherwise be lost waiting for a transplant that did not come in time.
The positive side to this would be the patient would not have to wait until an unrelated donor dies to obtain a transplant.
