The Long-Term Effects of 9/11On September 11, 2001 members of Al Qaeda were able to take over US planes in an act of terrorism. Two of the planes struck the Twin Towers in New York and caused them to fall taking many lives in the process. Another plane struck the Pentagon and caused damage and casualties. The last plane was on its way to another attack when it abruptly crashed in a field in Pennsylvania and killed all passengers and terrorists on board.9/11 attacks were orchestrated by Al Qaeda in a move to disrupt the Western economies and to strike fear in our country and the world. It was a form of both economic and social terrorism. As well, the attackers intended to impose the direct and secondary costs on the target nation, the United States. Other nations in the western hemisphere were also part of the target and felt the burden of this attack. The attacks caused immense damage in terms of physical infrastructure as well as loss of lives and earnings. The effects caused many families to lose their earnings, |

Biological and Organic MoleculesIntroduction An organic molecule is a molecule that is normally in or produced by a living system. These molecules typically consist of carbon atoms in rings or long chains that allows other atoms such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen to attach. The organic compounds are grouped into four major categories known as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids (Reece, Urry, M.Cain, & et al, 2014). This lab was designed to chemically distinguish between the four groups and apply the results to an unknown solution and food of a potato, onion and bacon fat. Carbohydrates include sugars and polymers of sugars. Carbs can be disaccharides when double sugars consisting of two monosaccharaides are joined with a covalent bond. Polysaccharides are polymers with a few hundred monosaccharaides joined by glycosidic links. A potato is a storage polysaccharide. Plants store starch allowing them to have an abundance of glucose for energy (Reece, J., Urry, L., M.Cain, & et al, 2014). To test for ca |

The Enpuzzlement Resource CenterWalking into Enpuzzlement, based off of looks, you would have no idea what type of work they do. Enpuzzlement is truly a one of a kind organization. Entering the Enpuzzlement building you would assume that it's some type of big food bank, where families can come to get food if necessary. Wrong assumption. What Enpuzzlement does is actually quite different and unique; they act as a "middle-man" between big companies that have unused products (mostly food) that are going to waste, and smaller food banks and shelters. These big companies usually throw millions of products away because it has reached its 'Sell by date'. Most of the time, a sell by date doesn't necessarily mean that the product is bad or not edible, but the companies do realize that, so it all goes to waste. This is where the organization Enpuzzlement comes in at. They pay for the entire process of moving the 'wasted' product to their warehouse so that the product can still be used by people that are in need. The volunteers and the owners of the organization use donations, as well as income of their own, to get the products from point |

The Children Left Behind"Just when I think I have learned the way to live, life changes" - Hugh Prather Have you ever imagined the life of many U.S born children in the United States that have to change their life in the blink of an eye because of the deportation of their parents? This is the story of many children who face many struggles having undocumented parents. The Immigration Law in America is undeniably broken and has emotionally impacted the lives of many Hispanic families, mostly the children's. This problem of deportation is one of the biggest issues that this country is having right now and one of the problems that need to be addressed as soon as possible to give children citizens of the U.S.A. a better quality of life and a better future. Some of options that could help these children is to give them special therapy, or provide a waiver to their parent(s) to stay longer in this country or on the other hand give asylum to their parents. Since The Senate passed the Immigration Reform B |

Queen Elizabeth I and the Golden Age of EnglandQueen Elizabeth I successfully ruled England for forty-five years during the second half of the seventeenth century. Her reign is often referred to as a "golden age" of English history. This paper asks how Elizabeth's reign influenced the Golden Age of England? Through a biographical examination of her life, I will argue that Queen Elizabeth I's reign contributed to the England's Golden Age by providing political and religious stability, successful domestic and foreign policies, and increased creativity within the arts. The Tudor Dynasty ruled for only three generations, but made a lasting impact on England and Western Civilization. During the 118 years of Tudor rule, England saw five Tudors occupy the throne: three kings, followed by the first two women ever to become queens of England by right of inheritance, rather than marriage.1 Henry VII was of Welsh origin, and succeeded in ending the Wars of the Roses between the Lancaster and York houses in order to establish the T |

Let's Go Redskins!Redskins pride has been nothing but positive ever since Lancaster opened 62 years ago. With each t- shirt, poster, and banner hung with the Redskins logo on it, there was a sense of pride being spread around the school. Tradition has been a huge part of Lancaster. It's something the school values and something the students and faculty wanted to protect and past down from generation to generation. Changing the mascot name is taking away the years and years of tradition the students and faculty fought to uphold. It's taking away the pride and joy of Lancaster alumni, current students, and future students. The Redskins name has been around for years and years, 62 to be exact. Why has it become a problem now? For all these years no Native American has spoke up and said it was offensive. So why now? Why is 2015 the year they decide that it is offends them. If it was such an issue why wasn't it dealt with earlier instead of later? Never once has a student yelled out Red |

Aristotle - Ancient Greek PhilosopherAncient Greek philosopher, Aristotle, was born circa 384 B.C. in Stagira, a small town on the northern coast of Greece that was once a seaport. Aristotle's father, Nicomachus, was court physician to the Macedonian king Amyntas II. Although Nicomachus died when Aristotle was just a young boy, Aristotle remained closely affiliated with and influenced by the Macedonian court for the rest of his life. Little is known about his mother, Phaestis; she is also believed to have died when Aristotle was young. After Aristotle's father died, Proxenus of Atarneus, who was married to Aristotle's older sister, Arimneste, became Aristotle's guardian until he came of age. When Aristotle turned 17, Proxenus sent him to Athens to pursue a higher education. At the time, Athens was considered the academic center of the universe. In Athens, Aristotle enrolled in Plato's Academy, Greek's premier learning institut |

The Theory of KnowledgeBefore the rise of modern science, people based their ideas of knowledge on religion. This idea is the religious theory of knowledge, which was most popular before the enlightenment period. The religious theory states that all knowledge comes from God. Humans are born with their knowledge, it is innate. It is the principle that God gives us a conscience at birth that we use to tell right from wrong. Although this is a common belief, some people think that you learn right from wrong from experiences. The belief that people learn from experiences differs from the original religious theory because, back then, people believed God gave us not only a conscience, but all knowledge. Even though many other theories of knowledge have been presented, people still believe the original religious theory today. John Locke, a renowned English philosopher, rejected the religious theory, because he said that if knowledge comes from God and God loves all of his children equally then we should all have |

Biography of Vasco Núñez De BalboaThe 16th-century Spanish conquistador and explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa (1475-1519), helped establish the first stable settlement on the South American continent at Darién on the coast of the Isthmus of Panama. In 1513, while leading an expedition in search of gold, he sighted the Pacific Ocean. Balboa claimed the ocean and all of its shores for Spain, opening the way for later Spanish exploration and conquest along the western coast of South America. Vasco was indeed beneficial to mankind. He has made history and accomplished many achievements not just for himself but for others as well. Balboa was born in 1475 in Jerez de los Caballeros, a town in the impoverished Extremadura region of Spain. His father was believed to be a nobleman, but the family was not wealthy; like many of his class, Balboa decided to seek his fortune in the New World. Around 1500, he joined a Spanish expedition that |

The Forgotten Slaves of IrelandIn history class, the teacher has taught students about African Americans being slaved back in the 1600's. African Americans are not the only one that has been slaved. The first group to be sold and traded as slaves were the Irish. Most people only know about the African Americans, and they have no clue that the Irish people were the first ones to be slaves. Therefore, African Americans should not be the only ones acknowledged as slaves. It's important for people to know how the Irish were treated, trade, and sold. To start with, "The first recorded sale of Irish slaves was to a settlement in the Amazon in 1612, seven years before the first African slaves arrived in Jamestown" (The slaves that time forgot by gjohnsit. Web). Queen Elizabeth started the "Savage Program" by executing and enslaving the Irish. She was the first to order her knights to execute the Irish, and there were no loss of profit of having a killing spree of Irish people. Ever since, the Irish were not valued as the Africans that cost 50 sterling, and the Irish 5 sterling. King James II and Charles I, followed Queen Elizabeth |

Explication of Base Details by SassoonBase Details "If I were fierce, and bald, and short of breath, I'd live with scarlet majors at the Base. And speed glum heroes up the line to death. You'd see me with my puffy petulant face, Guzzling and gulping in the best hotel. Reading the Roll of Honor. 'Poor young chap,' I'd say- 'I used to know his father well; Yes we've lost heavily in this last scrap' And when the war is done and youth stone dead; I'd toddle safely home and die-in bed." In Siegfried Sassoon's "Base Details," the speaker, a young ordinary soldier, says that his life would be so much different if he was an older officer. During that war, only young soldiers were involved in the fighting; Sassoon was one of them. As a British soldier in World War I, Sassoon well understood the military life. Raised in the carefree, luxurious life of the British upper classes, Sassoon was at first a strong believer of war; however, his attitude completely changed as he became angered by those who profited at the expense of others. "Base Details" is an example of him expressing anti-war sentiment. The sarcastic tone of Sassoon reveals his true thoughts, developing the poem's central m |

The Factional Society of DivergentIn the society of Divergent, people are divided into specific factions. These factions are Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Each faction has people with specific traits. People in Abnegation are selfless, people in Amity are lovable and peaceful, Candor people are truthful and honest, Dauntless members are adventurous and brave, and people in Erudite are the people that are full of knowledge and like learning. In this society when individuals reach the age of 16 they take a test to determine in which faction they better fit in or are meant to be in. I disagree that such a system is a beneficial way to structure a society. I believe this because everybody is different and everybody has many traits and characteristics that make people individuals. Individuals shouldn't be divided into factions for just |

Lebron James - I'm Coming HomeThe hardest things in life is saying goodbye to someone you love. The concept of goodbye is far greater than just, "I'll see you tomorrow." Goodbye, for the most part, is permanent. Once you say it you can't take it back. It is very important to make sure your goodbyes are phrased perfectly. To put the statement from above into context, LeBron James, the rhetor in this situation had to say his goodbye. Last summer he had to make one of the most complex, and compelling decisions of his life. He was torn between staying with his championship seeking team that went to back to back to back to back championships and won two of the four championships, the Miami Heat, and his home town, original team, and authentic fan base the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James, after weeks and months of endless interviews, meetings and the media just spewing about whatever they wanted LeBron had come to his decision. He needed a way to deliver his message. He was the best player in the NBA and need |

No Country for Old MenThroughout the movie "No Country for Old Men," directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, Chigurh, Llewelyn Moss, and Sheriff Bell always fully occupy the screen one at a time, regardless of how involved they are with each other at any point in the movie. New York Times critic A. O. Scott recognized this trend in the film; "[They] occupy the screen one at a time, almost never appearing in the frame together, even as their fates become ever more intimately entwined" (Scott). The way the directors separate Chigurh, Llewelyn, and the Sheriff on screen is an absurdist element and it happens various times throughout the movie. Absurdism is defined as "a philosophy based on the belief that the universe is irrational and meaningless and that the search for order brings the individual into conflict with the universe" (Merriam-Webster). Some of the absurdist elements in the movie can be found in Martin Esslin's The Theatre of The Absurd. This separation of the characters is an absurdist element that allows the characters to appear in the same scenes but occupy the frame one at a time. One scene in the film that involves all three characters is the sce |

Friendship RedefinedThe inordinate spike in the teen and adolescent presence online is both staggering and continuing as we introduce more and more social media sites into daily lives. There seem to be two prevailing theories on how this trend may be affecting teen social development, rich-get-richer and social compensation theories. Rich-get-richer refers to socially adept and confident teens with well-established peer groups using social networking sites to maintain close relationships and keep in contact with long distance friends. On the other hand, the social compensation theory states that more introverted teens will use these sites to anonymously self-disclose personal feelings and make friends in a less intimidating environment than the real world (Anderson-Butcher, 2010). There is strong evidence for the existence of both effects on teens but could both these theories actually be hurtful when put in context of healthy teen social development? Theoretically, the growing options of teens to be able |

In the Garden of Beasts by Erik LarsonAll through my middle and high school years, I found myself fascinated with history, especially whenever it involved war or some sort of major conflict. Being the young man that I am there could be several reasons for why I take a particular liking to war stories and documentaries, it definitely has to do with the realistic details of war like the sound of a machine gun or the image of bombers dropping explosives over enemy territory. All of this captivates my mind and allows me to try and put myself in the situation of the soldiers in which all of these events are real and occur around them all the time. This being said, when choosing from the books presented to us at the end of the semester, having already a basic background knowledge of World War II it wasn't too hard to decide which book I was going to read. Erik Larson's In the Garden Of Beasts gives a real perspective through an American Ambassador's view of just how things really were in Nazi Germany when Hitler came to power. O |

Diseases of the Native AmericanAmerica is currently one of the strongest countries in terms of technology, industry, and economy in the world. From an overall perspective of this country, the American citizens benefit a lot because their rights are well protected from the government. However, ironically, those "American citizens" do not originally belong to this country. Their ancients, several generations back to about 400 years ago, were all immigrants from Europe, such as British, French, and Spanish. Therefore, people may wonder which group of people really rooted from this land, and the answer is really obvious -- Native Americans. According to the statistic punished by government called "American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month: November 2011", the population of Native American in 2010 is about "2.9 million were American Indian and Alaska Native only, and 2.3 million were American Indian and Alaska Native in combination with one or more other races" (American Indian and A |

Analyzing My DreamI haven't dreamt for a while. My sleep these days is so deep and sound that even fire alarms in the middle of the night couldn't awake. As I drew my breath, and let it out with a long exhale, it resembles snoring although I hate to admit so. Even if once in a while a dream may creep in, I would forget it the second I wake up. Recalling back memories, there is one dream that clearly haunts in my mind. Men wearing black suit and tie are chasing me, not sure why, but they are. They don't hold guns in their hands but the weapon is loaded and prepared in their pocket. I was running for my life, gasping and ea |

America and the New DealAmericans faced many problems in the 1920s. One of those problems was the great depression. Along with the economy, the government's capitalist ideas were beginning to fail as well. Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration responded to these problems by creating jobs, helping agriculture, and setting up social security. The federal government became more involved by establishing the SEC and the FDIC. Some Americans saw the New Deal as a way to rebuild America's economy and government after the depression. People who supported the New Deal, supported the government as they tried to create jobs, help agriculture and set up social security. Documents C, E, and H all show evidence of Americans supporting the new deal. Document C clearly shows how the New Deal has created many new acts and systems that are beneficial to our country. The picture tells you that this idea is not a revolution but an evolution in bettering our country. The point of view of this document might be a man who is in t |

Fear, Curiosity and Human NautreEvery human has fears. If we did not none of us would be here for very long, we would be jumping into fires, eating berries we find in the woods, or running into oncoming traffic. Through evolution, humans have learned to be fearful of things like that. The fear of the unknown is a fear we have developed throughout our existence. The degree of alarm varies from person to person; but we all have a certain amount of anxiety in unknown or new situations. If we feel we are not safe and secure in the new experience (for example if we lose our job and do not know how we are going to pay the bills), we will be extremely anxious, and for good reason. But even when the change is positive, like getting married, we can still feel elements of fear as we are making a significant change to our life and the consequences of that change are as yet unknown to us. To battle this fear we need to use our curiosity. An example in a social situation would be seeing a cute girl at a party and wanting to talk |

Keep Your Head in the Game"Keep your head in the game!," Coach Hanks would always shout out to all of us that were members of the Pirates Little League baseball team. As a group of kids that were between the ages of 9 and 10, we were sometimes not interested in what was going on in a game. This seemed to be a habit of those of us, including myself, that were placed in the outfield. There's not much action in the outfield and one can easily get distracted; daydreaming or seeing something colorful and winged would be more appealing to one's eye. I was prone to watching birds, butterflies, and airplanes; I was known among my teammates as one to have the ball land next to me instead of my glove. Left field was where the less-coordinated kids or in my case, the easily-distracted, would be placed so that no ha |
