The Naakam - Jewish Avengers"All the roads of the Gestapo lead to Ponar. And Ponar is death. Let us not go like "sheep to the slaughter. "Brothers! Better to fall as free fighters than to live at the mercy of murderers."- Abba Kovner, leader of Nakam The Holocaust was the deliberate, bureaucratic, state-supported oppression and homicide of six million Jews by the Nazi administration and its teammates. Adolf Hitler, who rose to power in Germany in September of 1919, was responsible for the death of 11 million people. 1.1 million of those people were children, 6 million were Jewish, the rest were homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, gypsies, disabled people, and people who defied the Nazis. The torture of the concentration camps, the loss of nearly all your family, and the oppression of the Jewish people struck a chord in the hearts of the remaining Jews after the liberation of Auschwitz. Once the Holocaust was over, the Jewish population was angry and vengeful, so they decided to take matters in |

Ernest Hemingway - Soldier's HomeAs wars come and go, they leave a legacy and traumatizing experience for some folks. Ernest Hemingway's "Soldier's Home", is a short story about a soldier, Harold Krebs, who comes back from World War 1 as a whole new person. After returning home, he feels as if he is rejected from his community's values and doesn't feel at home. Also, the people don't find interest in any of the returning soldiers as they fought a brutal war. After years, things had gone back to regular and no one wanted to hear his interesting war stories. To get the people's attention, he had to begin telling lies to get their full undivided attention. The traumatizing war altered Krebs' view of his hometown and loved ones. He desires a woman, but he does not want to spend time to interact with one. His loving mother wants Krebs to be like other ordinary men in the town. In Ernest Hemingway's "Soldier's Home", Harold Krebs is traumatized by his return and in exchange, he is transformed completely |

Butch and Femme WomenAbstract Butch women have been characterized as traditionally masculine in their personality and femme women as traditionally feminine. In humans, men tend to exhibit lower levels of parental investment in offspring than women do (Low, 1989). Women must incur the costs associated with internal fertilization, placentation, and gestation in order to reproduce. A study is proposed to examine the differentiation between femme and butch lesbians in sociosexuality. Participants will complete a questionnaire that includes sexual identity questions and the sociosexuality inventory. It is predicted that butch lesbians will have a more unrestricted and therefore higher sociosexuality than femme lesbians. Past research on partner preferences of homosexual and heterosexual men and women suggests that lesbians exhibit a unique configuration of partner preferences (Deaux and Hanna 1984; Gonzales and Meyers 1993; Groom and Pennebaker 2005). Bassett and colleagues (2000) have found that femme lesbia |

Dominance in The Yellow Wallpaper"The Yellow Wallpaper" written in 1890 by Charlotte Perkins Stetson tells the story of John's wife, a woman without a name, she is simply her husband's property and he believes her to be suffering from a nervous condition. They rent a mansion for the narrator's well-being and she is kept in almost total isolation without any form of creative out lit, not even writing. John is a physician and prescribes almost constant rest and hourly tonics. The narrator tries to write in secret because she believes that it would help her, but having to hide it is exhausting. "Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good," (Stetson, C., 1890, p. 648). John patronizes the narrator by making her feel unreasonable in her an |

Discrimination Against Race and ColorRacism is Discrimination against people of different races. The one who it affected the most was the African Americans. It occurred most often and worse in the south, because they were beaten, they had segregation, and they were slaves. Discrimination based on race is wrong; in the United States African Americans have suffered slavery, civil rights violations, and Employment Discrimination; but laws now have been passed to make everyone equal. Even though slavery was abolished for all, it is one reason why civil rights violations became a problem and after civil rights violations were solved, Employment Discrimination became a problem. In the article, "The Freedmen's Bureau" by W.E. Burghardt Du Bois states that "when Lincoln emancipated the slaves" many of the uneducated slaves were left with "No jobs, No homes, No education" (para.1) They were basically homeless and they had nothing. However, Lincoln had thought about it and wanted to help the slaves find education, find jobs and find homes to live in; so "Congress established Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and abandoned lands, they looked after for |

On My First Son by Ben JohnsonBen Johnson's "On My First Son," is about the brief life of his son. From reading this poem we can tell that they were really close. Ben and his son Benjamin were such good friends that he wanted to make sure he had the world. He focused so much on all the things he wanted for his son that he was living in those moments of what he thought would be the future, instead of living in the present. After his son's death, he then began to beat himself up and wonder if he would ever be given the chance again to be a father. This paper will explore the rhyming words, elegy, emotive vocabulary, exclamation and imagery in "On My First Son." As the poem goes on, we may place ourselves in the father's shoes. His only son died at such an early age that he didn't get the chance to fully experience the world. There were only so many things he could do between his birth and his death on his seventh birthday. He did not have the chance to get an education, a job, a wife, kids, etc. |

Generational LessonsIt was the morning of Sunday, July 7th, the weather was bright and sunny. The flowers blossomed profusely with the birds twittering. Because of this great weather, I thought that today would be the perfect day for a picnic. However, my thought of a picnic is rejected from my mom's another planned appointment. She explained to me that one glad visitor will come at twelve o'clock to my house. She looked very excited, and her blue eyes became as bright as the Sun, and blue as the sky. Knock, Knock, the visitor came. "Amy, please open the door for your grandma. She is waiting outside." It was my grandma who I missed her for a month! "Grandma!" I ran up to the door, and quickly opened it. Grandma happily greeted to us, holding with some heavy stuffs. Yes! The stuffs were the ingredients for pancakes, and her grandma was going to make it for us. To describe my grandma's pancakes, my mom had always said that grandma has the best recipe of the pancake in the world. In addition to the description of the pancake, she also said when she eats grandma's pancakes, her hair becomes a flowing golden river streaming down her shoulders. Even though I hadn't had her pancakes bef |

Practical Counseling SessionCounseling is "the application of mental health, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, effective, behavioral or systemic interventions, strategies that address wellness, personal growth or career development, as well as pathology"-(Samuel T Gladding page 4 2007). Counseling is not for everyone, it poses some weaknesses just as they may bring forth your strengths. There are certain traits that a counselor must have in order to practice this profession. Having those qualities doesn't mean they can counsel everyone. A. Strengths Because of the various ways one can be counseled, there are various strengths or weaknesses a counselor may or may not have. With that being said, if someone uses social learning theory approach, they may have the strengths of comprehensiveness in order help the client find out what he can do to find the solution. It affects all life spans and body systems. Tobacco use accounts for more than 480,000 deaths annually from tobacco related illness. It takes only 8 seconds for nicotine to reach the brain and is one of the most addictive drugs in the United States. Several pharmacological drugs have been approved to help the client deal with the withdrawal effects. This paper addresses the harmful effects of tobacco use and effective treatment options to aid in the discontinuation of tobacco products. Becoming Naturally TherapeuticI believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses not only as counselors, but people in general can help us achieve our goals. The purpose of this paper is to do just that and clearly define each of my strengths and weaknesses as they relate to the therapeutic traits and competencies listed in Smalls text Becoming Naturally Therapeutic. Doing so will enhance my learning process in my journey to becoming a Certified Counselor. We start the reflection with Empathy, which is the quality that enables us to perceive someone else's experience and then to communicate that perception back to the individual. This in turn draws the client in closer and at times the client may gain a new understanding of their situation (Smalls, 1981). I feel I have strength in this area of counseling. In my daily life I experience empathy in action between my son and I. This leads to warmth and openness in our relationship. Friends have also told me I am t |

Types of Unethical ConductIntroduction University as institutions of higher learning have their core values. These values are what people judge to be right and acceptable. They are moral, ethical and professional attributes of character for the university. Lecturers, they are central ingredient guidelines to teaching profession. Values therefore determine what is right and what is wrong. But, doing what is right or wrong is what is referred to as Ethics. That is, to behave ethically in a manner consistent with what is right or moral. But how does one know what to be right means? Right or wrong are not mere individually initiated principles. They are responsible to what a society has defined and regulated to be ethical or unethical behavior. Sexual harassment is one of the unethical conducts that a lecturer can conduct at a university. Sexual harassment is defined as any kind of sexual behavior that is welcome and/or inappropriate for the work place" (Cornell). This paper discusses the unethical behavior of |

Why Religion Shouldn't ExistThe three main reasons why wars existed throughout history are wealth, resources, and religion. People today wish to cease wars due to the significant amount of casualties that they result in. Religious warfare, amongst those three, should be regarded as the most problematic and useless reason for war. Not only has religion caused conflicts, but religion also affects people's freedom. The type of freedom that religion prevents the most is the freedom of having gay marriage. Religion also serves no true purpose towards our society, positive purposes, at least. Though the claim that "religion shouldn't exist" is already a strong one to talk about, especially in today's society, it is a harsh, yet necessary topic to discuss. Religion shouldn't exist due to its many negative effects on society. Religious warfare is a type of warfare that people fights in due to many issues and conflicting thoughts on religion. For instance, sometimes people fight due to the different views that |

Faulkner's Writing Style: Enhancing or DetractingAn author's style is their way of expressing their personality and voice. Some author's voices come in the style of short, precise sentences, while others choose to craft long and drawn out sentences with many details. William Faulkner, the well renowned author, wrote enormously lengthy sentences with excessive amounts of detail and many different narrators. In his famous novel As I Lay Dying, Faulkner wrote in exactly this manner. In the novel, there are fifteen narrators. Over the years, there has been much debate over whether his style in As I Lay Dying enhanced or detracted from the novel. Faulkner's writing style in As I Lay Dying detracts greatly from the book because it does not have a protagonist, it complicates unnecessarily, and it leaves the reader wondering until the end. Protagonists are what readers look for in a book. They are the ones that readers follow and are biased toward in the story. Protagonists are the "good guy" in nearly every novel. However, As I Lay Dying does not have a protagonist. Faulkner writes in this way so that the reader will not have a prejudic |

Diversity PopulationsEvery new school year there are always a different mix of students that enter the classroom and with this comes a different mix of student capabilities, interests and motivation. Now, this is a challenge in order to keep each student engaged in the classroom. With students having many different interests, I think it is important to find a common ground that appeals to all those interests. For example, I would teach using creative ways to deliver certain information. If I wanted to teach my class about different types of rocks, I would approach it by making it interesting using any real-world connections to ideas and topics that my students are interested in. If there were students who liked trendy jewelry, I would explain the relationship between gemstones and rocks and discuss any common traits. Instead of just categorizing rocks as just sedimentary or metamorphic, I could also compare it to bricks for students that can relate to love building things. This way, whatever seemed just ro |

The Neurophychology of LoveSouth Texas College hosted a brilliant speaker that gave an extremely interesting talk on the neuropsychology of love. Dr. Paul Gonzalez was welcomed to a decently full auditorium on the evening of April 14, 2015. He presented a PowerPoint with his lecture of the different ideas of what love is and what different people believe it to be. The neuropsychology of love, presented by Dr. Gonzalez at South Texas College, is by far the most thought-provoking event I have attended. Tuesday evening, Dr. Paul Gonzalez gave a speech over the neuropsychology of love. Dr. Gonzalez described the differences between love and sex in a relationship using definitions from previous philosophers, but first explained the evolution of love. Quoting Helen Fisher, "we are evolved to reproduce, not to be happy," Dr. Gonzalez poi |

Alcohol in OntarioSo it seems convenient stores in Ontario want to draw in more customers by serving alcohol. Of course, there is a massive following in favor of easier access to beer, liquor and wine. Alcohol in convenient stores is a dangerous idea, though. The convenience of having such easy access to booze is risky on multiple levels – effecting the entire community. Easy access to a vice such as alcoholic beverages is not always a good thing. Being able to buy a 24 case of Moosehead Lager about 50 meters from a residential area is just too tempting for alcoholics. Picture this: an alcoholic has been sober for 10 years. That alcoholic just ran over to Mac's for some milk. They see Captain Jack's Spice Rum on sale. They think, "Oh, it'll just be nice to have for guests," and they buy it. That alone could be the victory of a man or woman's inner demons. It is just too tempting. Another group who would be attracted to some sweet amber ale would be minors, with their overpowering curios |

The Benefits of Aerobic ExerciseTo stay healthy, one needs to keep a workout routine. Regular exercise is essential for good health. The most beneficial type of exercise is aerobic. However, many people evaluate different types of exercise to be more beneficial to them, but they do not know the difference between exercise types. According to E. Szabadi titled "Physical Exercise and Mental Health", there are three types of exercise, aerobic, anaerobic and flexibility coordination (Szabadi). In this essay Logos is the main focus, it is an argument based on facts, evidence and reasons; it also provides hard evidence. The main argument here is why people should focus more on aerobic exercise, or cardiac, exercise because this exercise benefits both the body and health. If one wants to feel better, have more energy, and have a healthy life, he or she should look into exercise. According to Mayo Clinic Staff titled "Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity" regular |

Fanny Fern and CrèvecœurFanny Fern, the author of Ruth Hall, and J. Hector St. John de Crèvecœur, the author of Letters from an American Farmer both wrote novels that illustrate the contrasting ways of life in the city and the country. Fern and Crèvecœur both use parallel imagery through their portrayal of the country and the city. While the novels both have very different plots to them, they both follow the same writing styles in terms of the way the authors use the setting to influence the characters and the world around them. Both Fern and Crèvecœur depict the country as being a positive place with a lighthearted connotation to it, while the city is described as a more negative place with a heavy and depressing feeling attached to it. In the beginning of the book Letters from an American Farmer, Crèvecœur makes you aware that "America", as he knows it; meaning the countryside, is a very exciting, new, and respectable place to be. Why Prisons Don't WorkIn Wilbert Rideau's "Why Prisons Don't Work" he states that the prisons do not work in the society because "the vast majority of [prisoners] are consigned to die [there] so politicians can sell the illusion that permanently exiling people to prison will make society safe." To Rideau, the real situation is that prisons do not deter criminals because those people either do not think they will get caught or they do not care if they will get caught. Prisoners are kept in the prisons for too long that they tend to embrace the criminal culture and develop their wrong values and beliefs there. Also prisons keep the criminals, mostly young men, in there for too long, and long pass the necessity. Finally, Prisoners leave prisons no better than when they enters because there is not enough rehabilitation to change them. Rideau believes that as a community it is more effective to work to prevent criminal acts in the first place than getting tough on crime and violence. Wilbert |

A Refined Definition of IntelligenceWithout intelligence, this paper would not be written or read. An uninspiring false assumption in pop culture tells us that intelligence can simply be reduced to recalling of facts or high academic performance. Accumulating knowledge alone means nothing, at least in terms of intelligence. Although there is no standard definition for intelligence, anyone who knows the difference between an ant and a chicken knows that there is a difference in intelligence between the two. How can something that is inherently "known" be so elusive and hard to define? To understand intelligence, the unsolved riddles that ail the human condition must be meet with a panacea. This panacea may not be fully discovered or ever known, but awareness of such can better help us understand the nature of the "known". How fluidly humans can process, interpret, and articulate the subjective world within them and the objective world around them continues to fascinate scholars within the fields of cog |

The 6th AmendmentThe Sixth Amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791. It guarantees rights to criminal prosecutions in federal courts. The Sixth Amendment gives the accused the right to speedy and public trial by the impartial jury. The accused also has the right to be informed of the reason of their accusation and also be confronted with the witness against him as well as obtaining a witness in his favor. In this paper I will provide you with a thorough analysis of these above rights and give some history of the 6th Amendment. George Mason, who was a mentor of George Washington, wrote the Sixth Amendment. George Washington was the president at the time the amendment was ratified. It was written just a month before the Declaration of Independence. The Sixth Amendment was number 8 in Mason's writings and it followed: "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed; which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted w |

Odysseus and TelemachusIn The Odyssey, Odysseus and Telemachus embark on parallel heroic journeys to unite their family. The Online Oxford Dictionary provides the following definition of a hero: "A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." During Homer's epic poem, Odysseus and Telemachus demonstrate courage when faced with a multitude of antagonists, such as Cyclops, and the suitors. They also demonstrate courage when faced with their self-doubt, exampled when Odysseus continues persevering through Poseidon's seemingly endless turbulent sea. Moreover, these protagonists accomplish outstanding achievements, including outsmarting Cyclops, and escaping the suitors. Furthermore, they possess noble characteristics. For instance, the author uses "godlike" to describe each, while Odysseus rejects a goddess, and Telemachus takes charge in his home despite his youth. While they journey, the two protagonists receive aid from th |
