Human Resource Management in IndiaThe following assessment is about current HR practices in India and how external and internal features have helped in shaping it. It is discussed in the Social, Economic, political context. The current recruitment and training planning of the country is also illustrated. The reliable statistical data are produced to make scenario explicit at various places; examples of others countries such as USA and japan are used, their comparison seldom occurs to provide better understanding of prevalent HR practices in India. In the end, attempts are made to figure out whether India can contribute something valuable to IHRM. Brief introduction is given below for IHRM. International Human Resource Management is gained its popularity in mid-1990. It retains its origin from HRM. (Beer et al.), there is no broad consensus in definition of IHRM. Let attempt to define IHRM. According to Torrington (1994: 6) IHRM is nothing but HRM on larger platform with its more complex strategic considerations and |

The Best and Worst Trades in Calgary Flames HistoryFive Best Calgary Flames Trades - From Five to One 5. Lanny McDonald and Mikko Makela for Bob MacMillan and Don Lever Lanny MacDonald would go on to captain the team to their first and only Stanley Cup in franchise history. His leadership and timely goal scoring would prove invaluable in Calgary for years to come. The Colorado Rockies really blew it on this deal. 4. Joe Mullen, along with Terry Johnson and Rik Wilson, for Eddy Beers, Charlie Bourgeois and Gino Cavallini. Mullen was brought into the fold in a similar way he was shipped out, through a painfully one-sided deal. Fortunately when the Flames acquired him from the St. Louis Blues they got the better of the deal. Mullen would be instrumental in bringing the cup to Calgary scoring a whopping 110 points in 79 games during the regular season in 88/89. 3. Short Story - A Surprise Pregnancy"I suppose I should have started cooking sooner, " she groaned as she hugged the toilet helplessly. She arose faintly from her position and leaned on the counter. She turned the handle so that the cold water came flowing from faucet, endlessly pouring into the drain. Cupping the water within her fingers, she raised her hands to her mouth and began to swish it between her teeth. When she was done she spat it out and met her reflection in the mirror. "It is quite alright, Mary, " she began proclaiming to herself for reassurance, "Patrick says that you're fine. It is just a little food poisoning. Just call the doctor, and schedule an appointment. You will be fine. " With that she stared in the mirror for a little while longer, then picked up her toothbrush and began to brush her teeth and wash her face. Afterwards, went into the living room, picked up the phone to call the doctor. A couple seconds later, Dr. Scott's assistant answered the phone. "St. Leonard's Hospital, Melinda speaking. What can I do for you? " she greeted warmly. "Oh hello, " Mary replied, "I am calling to schedule an appointment with Dr. Scot |

Khrushchev and Reforms in the Eastern BlocWhat kind of reforms did Khrushchev introduce and how did these reforms affect further changes in the Eastern Bloc? The beginning of Khrushchev's ambitious reforms may be considered the 20th congress of the CPSU (February 1956), which was followed by the exposure of crimes, committed by Stalin and his entourage, the beginning of mass rehabilitation of repressed people and the criticism of dictatorial governance. Congress made changes in the ideological concept of the party: sounded rejection of the idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat was sounded and the thesis of "the state of the whole people". Political and economic failures of previous decades were combined with the concept Stalin's cult of personality. Khrushchev marked four problems with this phenomenon: - Violations of law and mass repression; - Failures and subjective decisions of Stalin during World War II; - Breach of the principle of collective leadership in the Party; - Stalin's actions aimed to ex |

America and the Gilded AgeThe Gilded Age was a period of American prosperity. This time period is most widely known for its numerous cultural changes happening within a short period of time. The economy had a noticeable boost, and with so, corporations were created and the Rise of Big Businesses began. Along with the rise of new businesses and major corporations, the Progressive era came, bringing a new set of mind to the people way of thinking. Alongside with these movements the Westward Movement started, with the need to gain and obtain as much property as possible. These major movements are some of the most recognized throughout American History and like every trace of history they all had a start. The American Minimum Wage DebateDebate: Should the U.S. government raise the minimum wage? Think back to the time when you were a child, when your parents first started teaching you the importance of understanding the true value of a dollar. Perhaps an allowance was given to you every week, with the knowledge and understanding that you would earn it upon the completion of the assigned weekly chore. As you got older, you eventually started wanting more money to purchase the things you wanted, so an agreement for more money was made in exchange for more chores and responsibility. The same perspective can easily be translated into the purpose for a minimum wage standard. An individual's wage should be merited for their performance, knowledge, and skill level. If not, the individual worker will expect continued monetary increases for the same level or amount of work produced. By tying in labor, skill, and education increases with financial increases, workers would be more driven to progress in their preferred field. The |

Market Segmentation - STP ModelThis essay is firstly going to define what market segmentation is, it is then going to describe the stages of the segmentation, targeting and positioning model. To explain the STP model this essay will put it into context by applying it to the Arcadia group, and then going through the stages of the model in terms of how the Arcadia would use it. It will look at the way the Arcadia group creates a marketing mix for each of there segments, by going through each stage of the STP model, in terms of how the Arcadia group would use it when deciding on their marketing mix. If a market is heterogeneous, then a firm has the option to segment it. Market segmentation is the process of dividing a market into smaller pieces based on one or more meaningfully shared characteristics. A firm segments due to the Pareto Principle, which states that 80% of a countries wealth and land are owned by 20% of its people. The Eshnunna / Tel Asmar StatuettesThe Eshnunna Statuettes, dating back to 2700 BC, reveal important information about Ancient Near-Eastern Art and the Tel Asmar of that period. Insight into Sumerian, an ancient civilization and historical region in Southern Mesopotamia, religious beliefs and rituals derive from the cache of sculptures discovered reverently buried beneath the floor of the Square temple. Votive figures, statues made as an act of worship to the gods, were common through out Sumerian culture and represent the importance god(s) played in their lives. Understanding the realistic styles that characterize the sculptures, the religious context behind them, and whom the actual individuals portray is critical to recognizing the significance of the votive statuettes. Artistic style is a key component to uncovering the symbolism behind these statuettes that are less than three feet tall. The statuettes depicted are representations of mortals that all have their hands clasped together close to their heart. Small |

The National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA)The history of the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), can be traced from the early 1960's. The notable figures who contributed to the emergence of the victim's movement are Ann Burges who saw the nexus between traumatic reactions and emotional aftermath after dealing with victims of sexual assault during her work as a nurse, and Caro Vittert, who assisted a victim of robbery and established the first victim assistance in the United States in 1972. Thereafter, NOVA was incepted in 1975 to offer to victim's assistance programs (Marlene, 2001). NOVA has been recognized for excellence in nearly 40 years of stewardship and service. According to Marlene, (2001), the movement began, in part, as a response to the 1973 United States Supreme Court Decision in Linda v. Richard (410 U.S. 614) which was ruled in favor of a discriminated mother of an illegitimate child. Towards the end of 1970s when there was subtle increase of random violence, NOVA was actively involved in support |

The Circulatory System and ImmunityDescribe the factors that assist the return of systemic venous blood to the heart. The factors that assist the return of the systemic venous blood to the heart are the contraction of skeletal muscles in the lower limbs and the pressure changes in the thorax and abdomen during respiration. Also, the presence of valves in the veins allows both of these pumps to contribute to the venous return. During the contraction of the skeletal muscles, the muscles would tighten around the vein passing through them, which increases the venous blood pressure, and the proximal valve opens-this pressure drives the blood toward the heart: action called milking. When the muscles relax, this valve closes and prevents the back-flow of blood away from the heart. As of the respiratory pump, when breathing in (inspiration), the diaphragm moves inferiorly-this causes a decrease in pressure in the thoracic cavity and an increase in pressure in the abdominal cavity; resulting in a greater volume of blood mov |

Aboriginals - After the ConfederationThe Basis of the Peace and Friendship Treaties The Government made the peace and friendship treaties sound very kind and polite because of the threat the Aboriginals imposed on the British, and the fear it gave them. The Europeans were at the time fairly weak compared to the Aboriginals, making them feel threatened. The British were aware how outnumbered they were by the Aboriginals and if at any time the Aboriginals decided not to accept the English coming into their Country they could easily attack, leaving the British in big trouble. Quite frankly the British were just very fearful of the Aboriginals and the power they held over the English especially after seeing war between the United States, and the Aboriginals. The Canadian Government wanted to make sure nothing like that ever happened in this Country and that is why the peace and friendship treaties were created. These treaties stated that the Aboriginals and the Government would peacefully share the land between each other so |

Subculture and the Modern WorldI am currently pursuing higher education as I have done in the past. I've enjoyed a fruitful career in both software and financial services marketing. However, my most rewarding gig (not financially, but certainly a major step for me in lifelong learning) has been working with adults who have psychiatric or emotional disabilities and wanting to enter the job market. I introduce myself this way because as I interact with a subculture that has to negotiate its way through the mainstream, I can now understand better the views Mary Louise Pratt explicates as she writes of diverse subcultures such as that of children. Children may not be appreciated by the educational system or even parents in some cases as a group of individuals that speak, think and imagine at a different level. Sometimes adults find this difficult to understand. We must aim for an educational system that inspires, respects and provides educational diversity to our children so that they become adults who will not constra |

African Americans and the Quest for EqualityFor centuries, African Americans have faced discrimination; a blatant imbalance of equality drastic enough to catapult our country into the Civil War. One way African Americans were denied equality was the degrading segregation at lunch counters and in restaurants. For example, blacks and whites sat separate from each other in restaurants. There was a section for blacks and a different section for whites. When there were no more tables left for whites to eat at, blacks would have to give up their table to the white person. Also only whites were allowed to eat at the lunch counters. One method used to deal with this inequality was sit-ins, a form of protest where African American citizens sit and refuse to leave. For example, from the Greensboro area, there were many people who wanted to help through peaceful protest and civil disobedience by participating in the sit-ins. It got to the point where they had shifts, and where all the restaurant seats were taken which then excluded white |

My Attempt to Stop ProcrastinatingWith schoolwork, going to the gym every day after school and having soccer practice almost every night, I have few hours to spare each day. On top of that, I have a tendency to procrastinate and I nearly always wait until the last second to start and finish a project. In the past, I never started my homework before practice; this was my time - to take a break from school and a few minutes to relax. Often, I would get home after a two hour practice and then eat, nonchalantly working my way into my pile of homework. This wasn't an issue, because I would have at least 2 to 4 hours to complete it. In all reality if I really focused and buckled down it should only take me an hour to do almost all of it. This year our practice schedule was changed from beginning at 6 to starting at 8 o clock under the lights at our complex. Our complex is also a 20-30 minute drive away. On average I would be getting home at around 10:00-10:30pm. Then I would get started on my homework. It's not natural for m |

Driving a Vehicle: Helpful Rules and Precautions1. Blow-outs: Under-inflated tires can lead to a tire blowout, so you should check your tire pressure often. Slowly ease off the gas pedal and gently press on the brake. Slamming on the brakes will only make you lose control of the car faster. 2. Brake Failure: Try to steer towards the safest path possible. Put on your hazard lights to warn other drivers on the road. Gradually apply the parking brake or, you can use the emergency brake. 3. If the front tires are skidding, you should steer in the direction you want to go. If the back is skidding, take your foot off the accelerator but don't brake. In the winter when it is icy, always leave extra room to stop in case there happens to be ice on the ground. 4. Hydroplaning: When hydroplaning occurs, shift into neutral and steer the way you want to go. When the tires touch the ground again, brake gently and drive slower. Driving slow can prevent hydroplaning. 5. Getting Unstuck in Winter: First, make sure the wheels are stra |

Discovery: Cross-Country RunningFor me, growing up is an endless process of discovery. It seems as if every day I stumble upon a new experience or encounter something I'd never known existed. Let me be honest - some of these are experiences I would not want to repeat. In the second grade I dance in front of my class in music, and it ended horrifically. My fellow peers laughed me off the stage so hard they ended up throwing paper at me, shouting things like "You suck!" and "Who taught you to dance?! An ape!" Needless to say, I have never danced publicly again. Other experiences, however, open up a whole new world of possibilities. Cross-country, one of my favorite sports, was one of those kinds of discoveries-the ones that make trying new things worth it in the end. Up until seventh grade, I thought I'd been active in life. Not that my childhood and teen years hadn't been full and happy. I used to be happy doing paint-by-numbers, writing in various diaries, taking pictures of flowers; and more recently, boxing in tournaments and driving around town with my friends. Although thes |

Are Beauty Pageants a Form of Child Abuse?According to Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment, child abuse is "the physical or mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation, of a child under circumstances that could harm them" (Merino 82). Beauty pageants for children are doing just this, exploiting them to certain people's eyes, who shouldn't be looking (Merino 79). They are also known to cause developmental problems as well as eating disorders (Brooks 24). For years, experts have been saying how much damage it can do to place young children in these events (Brooks 24). Beauty pageants have a negative impact on children because of the exploitations of the child and the lasting effects on them. The vast majority of parents that have children competing in this type of show, have no problem supporting the provocative image of their child that is being displayed (Davidson 60-62). The parents also don't have any arguments towards the perks that they are receiving (Brooks 24). They don't get just the cash or other prizes that their child could win but they are also cashing in on higher egos for themselves, the competitiveness of the sport, and self –fulfi |
