"I declare unabashedly that I like and even cherish the state of abandonment... it seems the natural, inevitable condition of man, and I welcome it...". This statement means that he liked being alone. As a child he had to deal with abandonment from his father and having to leave his home and live with his aunt and uncle. He is probably used to being alone when he was a child. When he was young the adults in his life did not pay attention to him. So, he is used to having no one take care of him. Richard does not think there is anything wrong with abandonment, which is why he welcomes it and he ...
The external and internal conflicts are very evident in Wright's story Black boy. When the boy's father left, his internal problem of hunger became closely associated with his father. There were many causes to the fall of the Roman empire. One cause was the army was collapsing. Few people thought the empire was worth serving and fighting for. They had foreign soldiers fighting for them. Training and discipline collapsed. They could not protect themselves and their property. There was also a lack of soldiers. Another cause was that the people became lazy. They stopped working. There was a big gap between the rich and the poor. The introduction of Christianity had some influence on the Empires fall. They couldn't protect themselves from attacking invaders. Also, the abundance...

I have many reasons for going to college. The main reason I guess would have to be so I can get a degree, graduate a one day hopefully get a decent job. There are also a few reasons why I chose this specific college. One reason I chose this college is because it is a Christian college. I wanted to start off for one or two years of college in a Christian atmosphere so I decided to go with the testimony that Temple has had over the years. I also received the Dr. Lee Robertson scholarship and that gave me even more of a reason to come. I know a pretty good amount of people that go to school here ...
Argentine President Cristina Kirchner was recently in America this week for the UN General Assembly being held in New York City. The problem with this is, that puts her right in the fire, so to speak. She and her country have defaulted on billions in debt owed to U.S. creditors. President Kirchner has repeatedly ignored the U.S. federal court system and supposedly removed any of her country's assets to outside the U.S. and away from collectors. With her being in New York this week for the UN talks, U.S. bondholders' have become more upset due this obvious slap in the face to the U.S. Justice s...

"Should have been A Cowboy", a popular kit country song of the mid 90's, broke out on the charts making people think back on their lifestyles. But in fact, do people view cowboys as the hero who has no trouble or worry, or the real cowboy ... . The long trips across the west seem to people today as a long horse ride with occasional campfires and beautiful scenery. This is the image I have always had about cowboys, but boy was I wrong. Between stampedes and Indians a cowboy had hardly enough time to enjoy the scenery. Nights were cold and lonesome. They were dirty and mean which seemed to be t...
AE Housman Reading this poem I had several different impressions. First reading it in a literal aspect I saw a child who ran races and perhaps won. Even if he didn't win he was made to feel like a winner. "And home we bought you shoulder high" (line 4) this says they bought him home proudly but not necessarily that he won. Next something happens to the runner that makes him unable to run, perhaps old age but I think death because of the following lines: Will flock to gaze the strength less dead"(line26) I also think there were key statements throughout to somewhat changed my thought pattern. I...
Many people today do not give much thought to what their country represents and why they should be proud to live in it. I am very proud to be an American and live in America. An American is someone who loves their country and the people in it, and also believes in bettering their own lives as well as the lives of those around them. I fill that since I live in America I represent the leading country in the world, and I am able to achieve almost anything I set my mind too. Here people have a chance to make something of themselves and are free to decide how they wish to do it. In America when tro...
Critique: How I Learned to Sweep The poem "How I Learned to Sweep" is written beautifully. I like the rhyme scheme and the pentameter. I think its very unique how the author, Julia Alvarez, ties together the sweeping with the broom and the sweeping of the weeds from a helicopter dropping off troops. The lines " our soldiers were landing in their helicopters into jungles their propellers swept like weeds seen underwater- gives you a beautiful mental picture. You can actually see weeds underwater swaying and also weeds being swept down from a helicopter. Another visually strong element is this "...

Hitting a jump on a four-wheeler can be fun and sometimes it can be regretful. One of the reasons I think its fun is because I like to impress the ... people I ride with. It is also fun to get high up in the air and look down at everything from up there. Now here are some potential bad things that can happen. Why is the Average Unemployment Rate Falling? The government has reported that the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 of a percentage point. Businesses cut 89,000 jobs in January, which followed job losses that averaged 311,000 a month in the last three months of 2001. Economists had predicted the unemployment rate would continue to rise. So why is the nations unemployment rate decreasing? Employment gains in construction, air transportation and retailing helped offset job losses in other industries. Recently there has been also been evidence of an increase in the manufacturing sector. Analysts say...

This object is a three-dimentional hollow rectangle completely constructed of transparent material. Inside it is host to a small community of dart-figures, no bigger than a paper clip. Covering the bottom surface is miniature rainbow colored boulders. The objects inside dart about playing hide and seek with the plastic mermaid at the bottom. A lifeless statue of an ancient scuba diver watches over the env...
Earthworms Earthworms are part of the phylum: Annelida. There are other things also included in this phylum such as bristle worms and leaches. They are bilateral, which means that if you cut them down the middle long ways they would be the same on both sides. Earthworms live in most any habitats except the tundra and the desert. They live in water because they dehydrate easy. They have a layer of mucus all over their body and if they didn't live around water their layer of mucus would dry up. Earthworms take in oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through their skin. Then b...
