The most destructive war for Greek history was the Peloponnesian war. This war was fought between Athens and Sparta. Sparta's goal was to attack Attica by land, burn its houses, and lay waste to the countryside. The Spartans hoped that by doing this they would disrupt agriculture and spread fear and chaos throughout the region.
