In The Science, Rogaia Mustafa Abushard explains female circumcision, a ritual performed in Africa and parts of Asia. The immortalizing ritual of genital mutation is a tradition of many cultures. An untrained, uneducated midwife with unsanititized equipment does the agonizing procedure. The clitoris is cut off without anesthesia and the outer lips of the vagina are sewed together. After the operation the girls legs are tied together for weeks so the skin can grow over the flesh. The young girls are between the ages of four to eleven. This purifies the girls and it gives them status in the comm...

... everyone would look up to. They thought that all they needed to create their perfect society was hard work and religion. The Puritans society was far from perfect though, in fact, I think the pressure to have such a perfect society was the cause of most of their problems. Since Winthrop's time, the term "City on a Hill" has come to inherit a special meaning to Americans today. What we think ... of as a "city on a hill" is a lot different from what the Puritans considered a "city on a hill." I agree with National Wellness Institute's definition of "wellness". National Wellness Institute defines Wellness as "an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence". This means that when person is healthy, he/she is able to clearly see all possible choices in their life, and that he/she is able to logically make the right choices in order to succeed. For example, a person who is under a lot of stress, which may be caused by debts, or may be by family issues, is not really healthy. As the problems continue to build up, a person becomes ill, mentall...

Texas is known for many things, both socially and politically. The death penalty is a very serious issue that we as Texans need to concentrate on in the upcoming election. The Death Penalty has been around forever even back into the dark ages. It is the way that we punish people for crimes they have been convicted of or have confessed. We do not stone people as they did in the dark ages it is much more civilized; it is done by lethal injection. Because of things like over population in the jails, and things of that nature. "In the higher world form of good appears last of all, and is seen only with effort." -Plato I think that this summarizes a part of life that at least I couldn't summarize in only one sentence. What Plato is describing is how if you work hard, put in lots of effort, you will see results. Goodness only comes when a person wants to see it, and doesn't take advantage of it. When a person works really hard toward something in particular, and is dedicated to it, they will get what they were working for. Plato realizes that this method of getting what you want is possible, depending on the size of t...
