The second setting is that of the actual tale. Some of the major characters in the story are as follows: Charlie Marlow, Kurtz - a European, half English, and half French, who works for the ivory company at the Inner Station on the Congo, The Manager - an Englishman who runs the Central Station on the Congo. Now that you know a little about the story you will have a proper understanding on how my life has related to the one of the Africans.
Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now Inherent inside every human soul is a savage evil side that remains repressed by society. Often this evil side breaks out during times of isolation from our culture, and whenever one culture confronts another. History is loaded with examples of atrocities that have occurred when one culture comes into effect. Society is a major factor of Racism. "People try to change the world differently. But I say they should try to change themselves first." I have experienced how it is felt to be treated differently from others just because they look different and they have a different culture and background compare to others. Once we were going to the mall and on our way our car got broken down. We started asking each person for help and to tell you the truth no one bothered to help us because we were different from them. In the novel "Heart of Darkness Charles was treated in the same way because he decided to help the blacks and that is why people didn't bother to help him. This states on pg 65 when Charles was asking for more people to take initiative to stand up for the blacks and no one decided to join because they thought Charles was wrong "In order to end this we would want more people to volunteer in the community but no one wants to help me." Despite of no one helping the blacks Charles still decides to carry on his work. In the end my mom got her car fixed and from that day on we stayed more cautious in our society.
