Gay Couples and Adoption

Everyone deserves to be happy and if happiness means adopting a child as a gay couple or being adopted by a gay couple, then so be it. Adoption in the United States has been around for a long time. Adoption offers many children the possibility of having loving parents, and is a solution to finding orphans a stable home as well as helps couples form a family unit. Legalizing gay adoption benefits both orphans and gay couples and there is no reason for it to be illegal. .
An increasing number of gay couples are wanting to adopt, but cultural and legal barriers prohibit their ability to do so. In many states it is illegal for gay couples to adopt while in others, gay couples are denied federal benefits. In the article "A same-sex Couple's struggle to adopt" from John Hopkins Magazine, Rachel Stewart Johnson states, "As the sixth year of their journey begins, the men are still waiting [to adopt]. Says George, "There are those moments where you slow down and you start thinking, 'When is this going to happen? What's wrong with us'" (2). Michael George and Chad Lord are one of the many couples who have struggled with adoption due to their sexuality and were often scammed by others.
