Concepts of Doubt in HamletComprehending Hamlet's struggle in avenging his father's death helps understand the play Hamlet. Hamlet was a true renaissance man with great qualities who struggled with fulfilling his promise to his father. This was due to his moral questions, his mother's hasty marriage, and his father's death. Hamlet also knew that there would be consequences for the actions he had to take that led him to doubt himself. However, his struggle, frustration and doubt showed his great qualities, which are his loyalty to his father, over-analytical mind, and his religious belief. Hamlet was an ideal man by showing his loyalty towards his father in avenging his death. In the first place, loyalty was the reason why Hamlet chose to avenge his father's death. In Act 1 Scene 5 Hamlet promises the trigger that started his struggle. "Haste me to know', that I, with wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love, May sweep to my revenge. " In this quote Hamlet promises that he will avenge his father's m |

A Personal and Reflective EssayParenting, seems to come in different styles from the strict to the laid back, the first timers to the more experienced. My parents could be described as both, alternating between, strict and laid back-they; both have their days. It is important that in the family there is a diversity in character and personality especially between parents. Two strict parents would lower the child's self esteem to the point where he becomes afraid of his parents and cant open up to them. On the other hand having two parents who are laid back will effectively cause the child/children to lack moral support at home as parents simply wouldn't care. For example, in the case of being bullied the child might not even feel the need to tell anyone about it as he sees that his parents are so relaxed about the situation, to the point of indifference. Mothers are commonly described as the more important of the parents in terms of the child's welfare. They participate in the less complex aspects of childhood such as the weekly shop and school r |

England and the Process of ColonizationDuring the sixteenth century, England had only started to learn more about colonization, the profits that can be made and the consequences that would come hand to hand. England did not pursue completely the benefits of colonization until after their experience in colonization in Ireland. The English defeated and subdued the natives of Ireland and established the settlement, Munster, on the southwest part of Ireland. The establishment expanded England's market and caused an significant growth in the economy. It was, then, when England learned a valuable lesson about colonization that settlements could be made profitable even if they needed military forces to subdue the natives of the land. That the native, in due time, could integrate into the commercial system of England. Two documents helps further understand the position of England after the colonization of Ireland; Exchange between John Smith and Powhatan, and Sending Woman to Virginia. In the first document, Exchange between John Smith and Powhatan, the relationship between the English settlers and the Indians that occupied surrounding regions of the English settlement, Jamestown, have been strained by numerou |

The Most Embarrassing Moment of My LifeWhen the phrase "embarrassing moment" is asked, what is the first thing comes to our mind? A moment when you failed to proof even when you are really good at it. Human life is full of events and incidents. Some are good ones while others we don't even want to remember. But most of them remain in our memories. Sometimes we recall these memories and become happy while others gives us pain. Everyone has an embarrassing moment in their life. I also have an embarrassing moment. I was a member of my school's basketball team. At the end of the year, we were going to compete a different school. I was playing as a defender in my team. Our game was going to be played before parents, important guests and the whole school. So, we wanted to make sure that everything went perfectly. Two days before the actual game, we had a group match. It went off very well. Ahmed, who was our team's captain, seemed anxious. Ahmed said, `Oh dear, they say that if everything goes perfectly during the gro |

Lusanna, Giovanni and the RenaissanceMarriage not a picnic for women in the 13th century, it was a contract. In this contract women had little to no say; they had to marry whoever picked them whether they loved them or not. This is what Lusanna is fighting for in Giovanni and Lusanna which is one reason she caused such an uproar. The conflict between the two Renaissance lovers was one of the most well documented cases in Florence; it really helps show the ideals for love and marriage in the 13th century. Their trial took years to complete and was a painstaking process of questioning witnesses from both sides then questioning the plaintiff and defendant. Its surprising that the moderator was able to sort through the myriad of information and come to a conclusion at all. While Lusanna was fighting to uphold the ideals of love, Giovanni was countering that fight by trying to uphold the social norms, which was far more acceptable. There was family, friends, and enemies fighting on each side, all swearing that their statements |

My Experience in Dream JournalingI selected Dream Journaling as my strategy for this assignment. I have wrote down my dreams in the past on several occasions, but haven't ever really done it with intention of incorporating it into an everyday routine. For as long as I can remember I have been utterly fascinated with dreaming and the world of metaphysics in general. When I was younger it was always a magical experience to fall asleep and return to the dreamland. Now, it is still very magical but I have also attained this desire to understand the science and psychology and theorize about the many things still unknown in the realm of dreams. To make this more into a habit rather than something that happens every once in a while when I remember, I created a sort of system to promote the remembrance of the dream before bed and when I woke up. I typically engage in some type of meditation/visualization technique before I fall asleep. During the course of the last week and a half or so, I have incorporated an affirmation a |

My Life in War"Only the dead have seen the end of war." - Plato I was introduced to the harsh realities of war at a very young age. Though I was never around the brutality of war, growing up with a brother who was a Marine allowed me glimpses into how much pain and damage war can cause. As a child I was very ignorant and couldn't even explain to you what exactly my brother did or what war meant. It wasn't until one night while I was sitting on the couch with my mom and my two sisters watching the news. I had no clue as to what they were talking about and was even more clueless when they started naming off names of men who were also soldiers, as my brother was. I remember looking at my mom when the list was finally over and being angry to see her crying but glad to also see her relieved. I decided then that I hated the war. I hated everything associated with it because I knew that war was the reason my brother was gone a majority of the time. I took it upon myself to ask my older sister what exactly my brother did as a Marine as I still didn't quite grasp the concept of war other than knowing that I |

Running on Empty - The World's Vanishing WaterWhat does the term "water shortage"" means? When it comes to water shortage, there is no correct definition. It just depends on whom you ask and where they live. For some people, it means having to commute extremely long distances just to reach a source of fresh water and to collect it. For others, water shortage means to content themselves with water only for a part of day. And finally, there are some regions in which people suffer from droughts that lead to a great amount of deaths. Therefore, in modern world problem with deficiency in fresh water has become a burning question, which needs immediate solution. According to Peter Rogers (2008), it is not right to consider that providing drinking water is a problem that affects only developing nations with dense population. It is easy to see that shortages of freshwater are meanwhile growing more common in developed countries as well, such as USA, Australia and the UK. In this essay I will study and analyze reasons of critical situati |

Canada in the Cold WarQuestion What role do you think Canada played as a Middle power during the Cold War and how did this shape our relationship in the Global Community? Response After World War II, Canada emerged as a world power, and ended up with a strong sense of pride and nationalism felt by the citizens. Our role as a "middle power" in the cold war shaped our relationship in the global community. Unlike the United States and the Soviet Union, we were not a superpower. At this time, the world was referred to as a "bipolar world" because of the two superpowers. Being a middle power didn't mean we were a country with no power at all. In fact we had a powerful military, we just didn't use it to attack other countries. Benefits came from being a middle power; we were able to get seats at the council, one of the ten rotating ones, more than any other country. The fact that we were a middle pow |

MDMA - Neurotoxic and Empathogenic Drug3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, Ecstasy", Molly ") is a widely known amphetamine derivative with relation to mescaline "another hallucinogen "and is frequently abused for its euphoric and stimulating effects. In 1985, MDMA was officially classified as a Schedule I controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for its high abuse potential and questionable application clinically. However, the popularity of MDMA continued to spread among the younger population, predominantly at large dance and club scenes such as "Raves ". Like any unauthorized and prohibited drugs, Ecstasy is illegally distributed at varying doses and purities in a single dosage, leading to increased reports of intoxication amongst its recreational users. Still, there is a perception of MDMA being a safe drug, leading to an expanding market for its illicit trafficking. Hamlet - Through a Critical LensIt was once said, "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster." This quote defines someone to be cautious when spending a lot of time on something you are putting your mind to do so that it does not take over who you are. This quote is proven valid with examples from the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare. Hamlet devotes himself into avenging his father's death, which although he devises a plan in which takes over his life, he is ultimately successful in the end. In the beginning of the play, Hamlet is faced with very important information about his fathers "death"." Hamlet talks with a ghost that appears to be his father, and in which the ghost tells the story of how Hamlet's father was murdered. "The serpent that did sting thy father's life now wears his crown." (Pg 59, 1.5.46-47). "Upon my secure hour thy uncle stole, With juice of cursed hebona in a vial, And in the porches of my ear did pour." (Pg 59 1.5.68-70). These quotes |

Tragedy and Tragic Flaws in MacbethIn Shakespeare's play, "Macbeth," fate is a concept that is showcased throughout the scenes. The ideas based around fate influenced the characters to act irrationally, making this play one of a tragic setting. The theme placed around fate is that once its set in place, it cannot be changed by any means or circumstances. All events in Macbeth coincide with the predetermined fates given to the main character, Macbeth. Despite the extent to which he tried to change his fate, it ended up in a complete failure. In the beginning of the play, specifically in Act I, scene iii, Macbeth and his best friend Banquo were both greeted by three witches. There, the witches told Macbeth and Banquo of their fates. A very important part of Banquos fate was that even though he wasn't to become a king himself, his descendants will be. An important aspect of Macbeth's fate is that he will become the king of Scotland. The witches had no mention of how in particular these fates were going to occur, or the outcome that was to happen after that fates came true, just the implication that they will definitely happen. Instead of just waiting fate out and just letting it happen, |

The Great American IdentityAmerica is known as a "melting pot" because it has so much racial and ethnic diversity, yet for the most part, these various ethnic groups live and work cooperatively. Throughout history, the United States of America has passed laws to encourage a diverse nation, and to try and ensure equal opportunities for its citizens. That is the cause for which America has been united. America is a place where it is 'okay' for individuals to express their personal beliefs and ideas. The government, in many cases, is the leading figure in helping minorities and the ones discriminated against in America. A major turning point for blacks and other disfavored races in America were the 15th and 19th amendments. The 15th amendment stated that all people born in the US would be granted citizenship with no restrictions, and the 19th amendment gave these same people the right to vote. These two pieces of legislation had a large impact because they ensured that minorities would be represent |

Ancient Greece and Contempt for Athenian WomenThe women of ancient Athens were treated poorly by men. In Greek society, men viewed women as intellectually inferior. Ancient Greek men also controlled women as items of personal property. Additionally men treated women as sexual objects in ancient Greek society. Athenian men openly expressed the contempt that ancient Greek society had for women. Athenian men viewed women as intellectually inferior from the contempt that society in ancient Greece showed for women. Athenian women were only educated to be housewives since they were considered unable to learn more and were not intellectual. In The Life of Greece, Durant states, "Her education is almost confined to household arts, for the Athenian believes with Euripides that a woman is handicapped by intellect. "1To be handicapped means that someone is placed at a disadvantage. When Durant describes women as being handicapped by intellect he is implying that their intellect is a disadvantage that makes them unable to learn. The Athenian |

My Favorite Place on EarthVroom! Sounded the engine on the boat as it charged through the crashing waves with music blasting through the speakers. As this trip was my first time going to Smith Mountain Lake, I had no idea what to expect. I could just tell that it would be an amazing trip as I relaxed in the back of the boat. Out of all the exciting accomplishments that I achieved at Smith Mountain Lake, I enjoyed my vacation time the most while I was wakeboarding across the choppy water, jetskiing at blinding speeds, and fishing underneath the warm afternoon sun. Extending my legs, I shot off of the rippling water into the air and started to spin because I committed myself to doing a one-eighty for the first time. I had loads of fun, gliding across the open water with my hair blowing back and the wind in my face. When I started, I received many hard hits from wiping out, but I caught on quickly. Flying like a bee off the wake of the boat, I attempted a one-eighty and landed perfectly. As I swept back and forth behind the boat, an incoming wave was approaching as fast as a racehorse and I did not have time to decide whether or not I should h |

Water and Petroleum and Producing PowerWater or petroleum? Maintain or survive? These two questions, answers depending on each other, are the questions at stake to sustain life. Water is essential to survival while petroleum is essential to the life of the modernized country. Water and petroleum are different, but, they are similar; they are both highly valued in people's lives. Both can produce power and everyday items such as clothing, even though the process is different. Maintaining is preserving life and surviving is not being able to continue without these resources existing. Water, like petroleum, is used in everyday settings. In an average morning routine water is used to flush a toilet, shower, brush teeth, and wash breakfast dishes. It is also used for drinking, cleaning, cooking, |

Religious Identity and Diversity in AmericaReligion in America From the very beginning, people from across mountains, valleys, and oceans came to America for more liberties and independence than they had had where they originally came from. America's citizens come from all different ethnicities and beliefs, making it the most diverse country in the world. Like a salad bowl, America's population is made up of a variety of parts but every group in the mix still retains its individual identity. However, it wasn't always like this. As a theology-oriented country from the start, religion had always had a large effect on the government and society. Ultimately, religion is what prompted peoples' growing sense of individualism shaping America's identity as the "land of the free " "a nation continually becoming more diverse in religious beliefs as well as race, etc. Search for Religious Identity The first European settlers in the 17th century came to the New World in search of religious freedom from the English Anglican Church. Criminology and the Effects of Police BrutalityIntroduction Thesis Statement Being on the front lines as a police officer is often a stressful and dangerous role to play in the society, because one will be dealing with suspects on different levels of criminal offences. In some cases, there may be need to apply force and the policing agencies have strict rules pertaining to how force should be used and in what situations. The excessive and unnecessary use of force by police officers, including unjustified shootings, severe beatings, and rough treatment of citizens are still common in our society today because of the many barriers that make it possible for officers who commit such crimes to escape due punishment and often go back to repeat the offenses. Police brutality remains one of the most serious and schismatic violations of the police forces around the world. Police or public officials often deny any wrong doings whenever new reports of brutality surface, while the administrative and/or criminal systems that should prevent th |

Media, Marketing and ConsumerismIntroduction Media marketing plays a very important role in communicating the message from the seller of product to the consumers. It helps the company in distinguishing its brand from the competitors and also the consumer in making the purchase decision. It started from cave painting and homing pigeons, which was the earliest form of communication and evolved over a period of time to other forms such as newspapers, magazines, radio, television, internet and promotional media campaigns. Over the period of time traditional media has been used along with the modern communication mediums so as to better communicate and deliver the message more effectively (Bergstrom, 2012). A media market is known as the region where the communication occurs between the buyer and seller through any form of media communication mediums. With the effect of globalization these regions may overlap and the people of one market can also receive the content from surrounding market. As different people access dif |

(Those were his occupations) His most notable work was his book, titled, "The Americans", published in Paris, 1958, which expresses his fresh and nuanced outsider's view of american society. Frank was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and came to New York later in 1947. Frank honed his skills working as a commmercial photographer. He later quit his job to start taking pictures through out the world. His theory was that, "A photographer needs to practice by getting out and taking pictures everyday." At the beginning Robert did not get much support from the art world, he recalls. His family consisted of: - A former spouse named Mary Frank - A son called Pablo Frank - A daughter called Andrea Frank - His father was Hermann Frank - His mother Rosa Frank - A brother named Manfred Frank - And his spouse June leaf He saw America as an often bleak and lonely place. The Artist - Formal Elements in Relation to SoundIf you take people from the 1920s and place them in this century they would probably have a minor cardiac arrest just by watching "Transformers" in 3D. And knowing the mindset, they would think it is a form of witchcraft and try to burn everyone at the stake. Movies, just like other art forms, have been continuously and consistently changing throughout the years; however, one of the first drastic changes the film industry has experienced was in the late 1920s when there was a transition from silent movies to what was known as talkies. This might not seem that big of a deal to the modern film enthusiast, but back then, the ability to talk in movies was simply astounding. One of the more modern movies, "The Artist" which was released in 2011, pays homage to the silent movie era and depicts the difficult transition some of the actors have faced. The opening scene in "The Artist:" introduces us to our protagonist, George Valentine. He appears to being tortured by scientists s |
