Sex without Love by Sharon Olds"Sex without Love" by Sharon Olds, expresses her emotions against loveless sex as a hurtful and cold act. Through her use of various poetic techniques she was able to display clear images to the reader. In the poem "Sex Without Love ", Sharon Olds uses the simile "Beautiful as dancers, gliding over each other like ice skates over the ice " to paint a picture in the readers head of what the act of intercourse can be compared to. Ice skating is a very majestic, soothing and smooth act. As a result of the comparison we can picture two bodies majestically and smoothly rubbing against each other. Also the ice can show how sex can be cold as well as impersonal. Another simile occurs in lines 5-8 which states "Faces red as steak, wine, wet as the children at birth who's mothers are going to give them away ". I believe that the red in the steak is a symbol of immaturity relating to the people hav |

A Comparison of Asian and Abrahamic FaithsThe Abrahamic religions of the Middle East developed quite differently from the religions of Southeast and Central Asia, despite their relative proximity to each other. This is especially true in the cases of Buddhism, Jainism, Confucianism, Shinto, Taoism, and Hinduism, all of which are major theological ideologies, crucial to the development of Asian culture. The separation between Abrahamic and Asian faiths is evident from the very beginning, with their views of creationism. While Islam, Christianity, and Judaism have different timelines for the event, they all commonly accept that their respective God made everything in existence within a week, with Islam's Allah beginning on Saturday, and Christianity and Judaism's God beginning on Monday. Everything was created with a specific design, and was ultimately made to glorify the creator. This is where the divide begins. Asian faiths have different stories of creation between each faith. The most extreme example of separation between |

Public Education Cripples Our Kids - John GattoThe author of "Against School: How Public Education Cripples Our Kids, and Why," John Gatto, explains how tedious his thirty years of teaching had become. Gatto received the teacher of the year award and taught in the worst and best schools in Manhattan. However, despite his involvement, he felt bored. He shares his experiences with students to show that students are more interested in grades rather than learning the course. School has become a mandatory way of life that is expected in today's society. Although Gatto believes that education is important, he believes school is purposeless. According to Gatto, success does not necessarily result from good performance in school as society might think. Instead, history has shown that school has little effect on person's success. Gatto begins his article by telling his readers that some of the people who shaped the nation had an education, but did not go to school. For example, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lin |

Pre-Meditated Genocide in the HolocaustThe two main topics for debate in Chapter 21 of Exchanges are whether the Holocaust was planned by the Nazis before or after the war started. The other subject of discussion is what were the main causes for the Germans to murder six million Jews. The Germans felt threatened by the Jewish people and evidence suggests that the mass genocide of the Jews was pre-meditated (Dawidowicz 269). Although the Holocaust was unique, it was not unique in its time. According to Lindqvist, "this slaughter of civilians was made possible by more than a century of European (and American and Japanese) ideology that the extermination of other "races" was appropriate" (Lindqvist 276). Although Hitler exterminated about six million Jews, his main goal during the war was German expansionism. In determining when the Germans planned the extermination of the Jews, one must take a look at the Wannsee Conference. The purpose of the Wannsee Conference was to decide the future treatment of German |

Legalizing Physician-Assisted SuicideImagine a man dying of cancer and doctors give him less than three months to live. The man holds several hostages and it results in a police standoff. The man has no intention to harm the hostages, but attacks a police officer. As self defense the officer shoots the man- another example of police-assisted suicide. The ill man was in pain and wanted to die, but failed do it himself. Assisted suicide presents itself in other ways too. Physician-assisted suicide given as an option to terminally ill patients means they no longer need to endure endless pain and suffering. People need to accept physician-assisted suicide out of respect for the autonomy of the patient, out of mercy, as a source of pain treatment, and ultimately as a final source of comfort. Arguments against physician assisted suicide fail to acknowledge the patients right to self- determination. Every person possesses the right to determine how they die. Imagine sitting in a hospital bed in severe pain with less than three |

Merging Education with TechnologyComputers have changed the way we work, regardless of profession. Therefore, it is only natural that the role of computers in education has been given a lot of importance in recent years. As technology develops and becomes more popular, so does the use of that technology. Computers play a vital role in every field. They aid industrial processes, they find application in medicine; they are the reason why software industries developed and succeeded and they play a very important role in education. This is also why the education system has made computer education a part of school curriculum. Considering the use of computer technology is almost every aspect of life, it is important for everyone to have at least the basic knowledge of using computers. However, with all these benefits of learning how to use a computer and allowing students to use these computers as a beneficial aid in their schoolwork, there are some drawbacks. For example, teachers using PowerPoint presentations and YouTube |

Sylvia Plath, Poetry and Works of ArtSylvia Plath wrote many poems based on modernist and surrealist paintings in her short career as a writer. Some of these she wrote to describe the visual beauty of the painting in words, while others were almost entirely unrelated to the paintings they were supposed to be based on. In these cases, she uses both the titles of the paintings and the titles' connotations in order to express her own internal desires. Regardless of the way in which she uses these works of art in her poetry, it is clear that she gains inspiration from them. Plath's "Yadwigha, on a Red Couch, Among Lilies " is an incredibly vivid poem that uses visual imagery to describe the scene of Henri Rousseau's "The Dream. " The painting itself is bizarre, with the main focus being a nude woman, dubbed Yadwigha by Plath, lying on a red couch in a jungle, and Plath seems to recognize and appreciate this oddity for what it is. She refutes the complaints of critics who say that a red couch has no right to be amidst this ju |

Social Media - Emotional and Social Development of TeensSocial media use is widely common around the world today, from television shows to social networking sites to texting among friends. As the next generation grows, one issue that some parents contemplate is how it all will affect their child. While an adolescent's brain develops, so will their personality or behaviors. Social media, specifically, can influence the connections the brain makes in both beneficial ways, such as developing new creative skills and making new bonds with others, and negative ways, like stunting an individual's social growth or inundate a teen with addiction. During adolescence, the brain has already made its final developments. It is also during this time that teens have become fully immersed in the world of technology which could potentially affect the connections the brain makes. Jay Giedd, a chief researcher of the Unit on Brain Imaging in the Child Psychiatry Branch at the NIMH, did a study in which he took a look at the brains of 145 relatively normal chi |

How the Loch Ness Monster Got Her NameA long time ago in the forest of Miram, Jamaica sat a wondrous little creature; her name was Nessie. Nessie had friends and was just like any other creature in the forest, except Nessie didn't have any brothers and sisters; She didn't even have a mom or dad. Nessie was all alone in what she saw as a big world. Her friends helped her through it as best they could. It was "Halloween Eve" when Nessie got together with her best friend Allen the monkey; they were talking about their mud masks they would put on as face paint and the silly tricks they would play on their other friends. Allen begins to ask Nessie if she'd ever heard the story about the Loch Ness Monster. "Scary stories don't suit well with me." Nessie said. Allen insisted that she give it a try for the Holiday's sake. Allen proceeds to tell her a gruesome story of a monster in Dawning Swamp that Nessie lives near. This story has heart wrenching moments and gruesome endings for most creatures; Nessie was scared. That night on Nessie's way home she made sure to steer clear of Dawning Swamp and to forget that story by mo |

Changes and Continuities of ChinaBetween 600 C.E. and 1750 C.E., China went through many significant changes and continuities. Many ideas that involved society, religion, innovations and arts were many of the things that either got modified or remained the same. Those were not the only things though; the main aspects that changed were those that were political and economic. To begin with, during China's earliest stages, it began with the Han Dynasty, where agriculture was the main focus but as time went on, the dynasty came to a halt and a new ruler would step in. This ruler's name was Sui Wen-Ti and during the Sui Dynasty he brought China back together until it hit its downfall around 618 C.E, and the Tang Dynasty took the opportunity to rise. During this dynasty, China became more stable with a strong central government, economic revolution, agriculture improved by its infrastructure and that led to an increase in population, which led to urbanization, the interaction with others, and the spread of Chinese culture and art with poems, paintings, and other pieces of literature. A Visit To Kota Bharu, KelantanDuring the school holidays, my parents decided to take me to Kota Bharu in Kelantan for a holiday. We packed some clothing enough for four days and three nights. I was very excited as I had never been to Kota Bharu before. After a few hours of driving, we finally arrived in Kota Bharu. My father took us to a comfortable apartment which is located in the centre of the city. After a few minutes of resting and praying, we visited the city. As my father was familiar with Kota Bharu, we had no problems getting around the city. My father took us to visit 'Istana Jahar', a royal custom museum. We were informed that the museum was built in 1887 and was a gift from Sultan Muhammad II to his grandson. It is a beautiful old wooden structure with carved panels and intricate framework which is testimony to the superb craftsmanship of the Kelantan people. Its houses have many valuable historical and cultural artefacts. After that, we visited 'Syura Hall', an Islamic Museum and we found out wh |

Especially those who are from the New York City area, it is refreshing to see things that uplifts, contributes in bringing something positive to the community and also everyone together. The Things the Shape Our LivesSome events greatly define our lives and leave a large imprint, regardless of how significant or insignificant they can seem at the time. It is often the unexpected events, though, that change us most as people. What I have learned is that our response to events, no matter how traumatic they are, is what ultimately defines and shapes us as people. My own life was defined by one of these unforeseen events that occurred when I was eight-years old. I skipped home, as I always did, on this beautiful, Friday afternoon. It was a good day until I saw my mother at the front door bawling her eyes out and frantically heading towards her car. She instructed me to go to my neighbor's house until she came back from the hospital where my dad had been admitted. I remember that my heart dropped when I heard the words "hospital" and "dad." Hours passed by, and I could not sleep, wondering how my dad was doing: Was he breathing? Was he unconscious? Was h |

Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED)Alex Rodriguez is one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball. On August 5, 2013, the Major League Baseball suspended Rodriguez for 211 games for violating the league's Performance Enhancing Drug policy. He was one of the 13 players suspended for their roles during the biogenesis baseball scandal. The Drug Joint Prevention and Treatment Program is a program that was established by an agreement between the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball and the MLB Players Association. The goal of this agreement was to discourage and end the use of banned substances such as anabolic steroids and other drugs in baseball. College Entrance Exams and University SuccessEvery year, thousands of hundreds students all around the world are taking SAT or ACT tests as a part of their application packets. SAT and ACT are two globally recognized college admission tests that let student show colleges what they know and how well they can apply that knowledge. The higher the score, the higher possibility you get admitted by the top ranked college. Even though those tests are critical for college admission process, they are just one factor among many that colleges use to get to know the candidates better. Therefore, I don't think college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT are a good indicator of university success, because students have much potential to develop; those test scores are only measured how well one prepared for the tests; and, there are many difference between college life and high school life. College entrance exams are not a good indicator of university success because students have infinite potential, both positive and negative. According to t |

Children Having ChildrenAdolescent parenting has multiple consequences on interpersonal relationships. Teenagers are parenting at the age they should be navigating through adolescence. Their relationships with their own mothers, friends, extended family, the child's father, and most importantly, their child are gravely impacted. The teenager is essentially maturing as her child ages. She is now in a whole different bracket compared to non parenting teenagers. The relationship between an adolescent mother and her own mother have been found to have two extremely different effects on the relationship between she and her child (East, 1999). In some cases the effect is very negative and in others very positive. Sometimes the two parents relationship is strained where in others it is quite a loving one. In a negative relationship the adolescent mother feels more equal to her mom where respect and adulthood are concerned, yet still so dependent on her not only for herself but also for her child (Black, 1996). The Courage to Do What's RightGood morning Brothers and Sisters. My name is Jaeger Perkins and I am a priest in the Lone Mountain Ward. I am honored to be able to speak to you on this Sabbath day. I was asked to speak on having the courage to choose the right. When we came to this earth we were blessed to be able to receive the gift of agency, which means that with everything, it is our own choice. When making decisions, it is important that we have the courage to choose the right. Each decision we make can either bring us up, or tear us down. It can shape the coarse of our life and reflect on our character. I believe President Monson put it best when he said "Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed: the courage to say, "No," the courage to say, "Yes." Decisions do determine destiny." I love that quote. He makes it perfectly clear that courage is needed. The definition of courage itself is "to not be afraid and to have strength when doing that |

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR)INTRODUCTION The United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) was established in 2006 to promote and protect human rights across the globe. A mechanism known as the Universal Periodic Review was created by the HRC as a tool to assess each member states human rights situation. This essay will look at the UPRs first cycle across several member states, analysing effectiveness of the mechanism if any at all. TOPIC 1: Historical Context It can be said the body of Human Rights was first identified in the early eighteenth century, drawn up in response to the experiences of the Second World War. Post war seen the formation of a global organisation known as the United Nations, whose aim was never to let such brutality and conflict happen again. Its members believed that the individual rights of human beings were ˜absolute and inherent'. History of the People of UromiINTRODUCTION The Three Concepts namely history, society, and culture denotes events, ideas, attitudes, believe system and traditions all of which relate to the totality of a people's way of life. In a nutshell, therefore, my focus of this research, is simply asking, "Who are the people of Uromi? THE ORIGIN OF UROMI Uromi is located in the present Esan region of Edo state in the mid " western part of Nigeria. Stories relating to the origin of the people are varies. The most prominent is the over flagged and perhaps derogatory story of flight of Esan people from the Benin region in the 15th century in reactions to some obnoxious laws during the reign of certain King (Oba) Ewuare of the Benin region. This story may create the impression of a cowardly people who rather than face the threat from an over bearing ruler took the easier option of a flight into the bush. It could also present the picture of a people who were violently independent and who were unprepared to broach oppressi |

Commencement Speech - Failure is SuccessThe saying that "Failure is not an option" teaches us that we should always and only strive to be successful in all we do. The pressure put onto us by our parents, peers, society, and even ourselves push us to the extremes to be the best we can be. The idea of perfection is part of the human implement to compete in the world of titles. The hunger to hold prestige in our hands blinds us from seeing true achievement. Success does not come without failures. You cannot succeed without battling the obstacles and challenges thrown at your way. As we hold hands and skip down the road of success off into the blazing sunset of our high school career, we encountered many struggles that shaped us to be who we are today. None of us made it this far without falling a couple hun |

JFK's Call to ActionUnited States President John F. Kennedy gave one of the most memorable inaugural addresses on January 20, 1961. President Kennedy focused on America's pledge to human rights around the world and initiated an alliance with republics in the United States of America that want to escape poverty. He asked that our enemies consider peaceful coexistence to prevent self-destruction and the extinction of humanity. President Kennedy declared global alliances that assist all mankind and made two statements that included the phrase "ask not..." The final paragraph in his address, referred to God's work and high standards. In his address, United States President John F. Kennedy, had a goal to inspire the people of America, to prove himself to this Nation as a leader and reassuring those who voted against him. Generations long after the presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy know his inaugural address, if not most of it, they likely know the call to action he so carefully created, making it is one of |

Economic Integration - Hong Kong and Mainland ChinaIn order to develop economy, there has been more and more economic integration between Hong Kong and China in recent years. These bring various advantages and disadvantages in different aspects, including economic, political, social, cultural and environmental aspects. There are different arguments regarding the economic integrations. In the following essay, I am going to discuss both of the positive and negative impacts brought by the economic integration between Hong Kong and Mainland, and come to the conclusion of whether economic integration should be promoted. According to the definition of the website of Investopedia, "an economic arrangement between different regions is marked by the reduction or elimination of trade barriers and the coordination of monetary and fiscal policies. The aim of economic integration is to reduce costs for both consumers and producers, as well as to increase trade between the countries taking part in the agreement. Youth Unemployment in ItalyPART I Problem Analysis In March 2010 the European Commission (EC) released the Europe 2020, a ten-year strategy which aims at making Europe a dynamic and competitive economy. Europe 2020 focuses mainly on R&D, reducing school drop-outs, the number of people living in poverty and greenhouse gas emissions , but its most important goal is to achieve an employment rate of 75% at EU-level by 2020. The latter will be at the centre of attention in this policy paper. The context will be youth unemployment in Italy. In order to achieve an employment rate of 75% the European Employment Strategy (EES) was designed by the Treaty of Amsterdam. This concept consists of annual guidelines and targets for Members States (MSs) based on the 2020 goals in order to attain more cohesion between national employment policies and ultimately higher employment rates. It is coordinated by the Open Method of Coordination (OMC), which is a method of intergovernmental soft law based on policy learning, peer press |

The Coming of the Civil WarThere was many reasons why the Civil War began. The U.S Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865. It had around 618,000 casualties. Like I previously mentioned, there was many reasons why the civil war started. Its causes can be traced back to tensions that formed early in the nation's history. One of the main reasons the Civil War happened was because of the economic and social differences between the North and the South. With Eli Whitney's  invention of the cotton gin in 1793, cotton became very profitable. This machine was able to reduce the time it took to separate seeds from the cotton. However, at the same time the increase in the number of plantations willing to move from other crops to cotton meant the greater need for a large amount of cheap labor, i.e. slaves. Thus, the southern economy became a one crop economy, depending on cotton and therefore on slavery. On the other hand, the northern economy was based more on industry than agriculture. In fact, the northern industries wer |

Darkness of the Middle AgesThe Middle Ages were a difficult time for Europe. The Crusades, Black Death, and the Barbarian Invasions all occurred during the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages was also labeled as the Dark Ages. However, there are some who disagree with this label since there were also achievements that would lead to the revival of the civilization and they are wrong. The Middle Ages should be known as the Dark Ages because the chaos that occurred during that time.
