Yoga: Mind, Body and SpiritOver the history of the world, yoga has evolved from a religious practiced by holy men in India and Asia, to become part of mainstream fitness all over the world. While exploring the evolution of yoga, it is important to keep in mind the true sense of it. Yoga is a form of meditation, with or without movement. Sitting in lotus pose with focus on the breath and quieting of the mind is the essence of yoga. A practice focused on unblocking the chakras can facilitate relief from a long list of physical and emotional ailments, including, but not limited to, stress, hypertension and depression. Chances are you probably know someone that has tried yoga or is considering trying it. The Physical Activity Council's 2012 report found 217 million Americans age six or older actively participate in some form of physical activity or team sport (2012 Participation Report). Of those, 20.4 million Americans practice yoga (Yoga Journal 2012). These numbers continue to grow at a staggering pace as is e |

Master Harold and the Boys by Athol Fugard"Life is just a plain bloody mess, that's all. And people are fools"(48). This quote by one of the main characters, Hally, in Athol Fugard's "Master Harold" and the boys, describes the central theme of the play. The theme of the play is about boy chooses the accepted values of society over a strong friendship. Ironically, Hally is the "fool" in the play because he chooses to conform to the societal views towards racism rather than taking the moral high ground. He decides to treat his black servants, Sam Semela and Willie Malopo, with disrespect rather than the equality that a normal friendship requires. Although Sam is a better father figure and friend to Hally than his biological father, Hally resembles his father's harsh, racist personality towards the end of the play. Sam is portrayed as a better friend to Hally because he is there for him at all times such as the kite and Boarding House memories. Hally turns into his father at the end by using his white superior |

Cap and Trade - Greenhouse Gas MitigationThe United States is currently considering multiple different ways to approach greenhouse gas mitigation. One way that is receiving the most attention, however, is Cap and Trade. The "Cap" sets a limit on emissions. The "Trade" creates a market for carbon allowance. The term Cap and Trade as a whole describes a policy identifying greenhouse gas emitting entities that are covered by the system. It also sets caps on emissions, and allows trading in the resulting emissions allowances. The entities are points of responsibility and can be defined at different levels in our economic system, from coal mines, to gas stations. Years ago, Cap and Trade was known as emissions trading, and due to possible issues with it, some called it "morally bankrupt" or even "a license to kill." For republicans and environmentalists, Cap and Trade represented an approach to clean up the world. Because of these allies, in 1990, the system of Cap and Trade was adopted as |

Walt Whitman - I Hear America Singing"Walt Whitman, an American, one of the roughs, a kosmos/Disorderly, fleshy and sensual eating and drinking/and breeding/No sentimentalist no stander above men and women or/apart from them no more modest than immodest." This is how Walt Whitman revealed himself in his first edition of Leaves of Grass. The book's cover had no author or title and instead, on the front, an image of a man in working clothes serves to identify the author. He is regarded as one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century to many. Being regarded so highly would make one think that Whitman was a rich, prosperous, and a high maintenance individual like most celebrities we think of today such as the Kardashian's and Kanye West's of the world of today, but Whitman was an ordinary man who had a tremendous gift of writing. Fascinated with ordinary American people, Whitman demonstrates in his poem "I Hear America Singing" an example of his beliefs of human life and his love for Ameri |

Hosea, Jeremiah and IsaiahWhen comparing prophets Hosea, and Jeremiah I came across many similarities and differences. Both prophets did some remarkable work during their time, but most of all they wanted nothing more than to please God, and have the people return to Yahweh and the covenant, so that he may have mercy on them for their sins. Hosea was raised in the Northern Kingdom and preached there throughout his entire lifetime. This is actually quite unique, his thought process represents the perspective of the Northern Kingdom solely. Hosea worked from about 745 B.C. to about the time the Northern Kingdom fell which was 722 B.C. In chapters 1 through 3 of Hosea it seems as though he shares parts of his personal life and his failed marriage, in which is wife was unfaithful on multiple occasions. God ordered Hosea marry a Harlot, which is different from Jeremiah's order not to get married. God ordered Hosea and his wife to name their first son Jezreel which refers to a valley where Israel had a lot of blood s |

Needle Exchange ProgramsNeedle exchange programs have been created as a means of reducing the transmission of HIV and other blood borne diseases such as Hepatitis C. The fact for this vulnerable portion of the population is that they share needles simply because they do not have the financial or legal means of procuring them. The Center for Disease control describes the purpose of "Syringe exchange programs (SEPs) is to provide free sterile syringes and collect used syringes from injection-drug users (IDUs) to reduce transmission of blood-borne pathogens, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus (HCV)." In addition to reducing disease transmission, syringe exchange centers provide services to promote harm reduction within the population. Despite medical advocacy, there is a large section of the population that negatively regards SEPs as a decriminalization of drug policy. Those that disagree with SEPs feel that these programs should not exist or be paid for with public funds. Many feel that drug users should be punishe |

The Inactivity of Savage TorporEver since the improvement of modern day technology, the negative effects of mass media have been increased in society. The upsurge in people being deluged by trivia and sensationalism, have reduced their mind to a "savage torpor", in other words physical or mentally inactivity. Firstly, teenagers are caged in their own actuality and have become indolent in nature. Secondly, mass media alters people's minds to be competitive with others. Lastly, media creates a virtual image of perfection that causes people to judge themselves. As a result, having a steady diet of mass culture products would produce "savage torpor" in one's mind. With the rise of the so called "technology era", now a days almost every day all teenagers use technol |

Facebook and Social Networking EssayA social networking service launched to the public known as Facebook, changed how we keep in touch today. Facebook connects more people then any other single network. Posted in the office, fingers on the keyboard, anticipating and waiting, on September 26, 2006, Facebook was open to anyone over the age of 13 with a valid email address. Suddenly, I was a Facebook member and the feeling felt so great. Mark Zucherberg wrote a program called Facemash in 2003, while attending Harvard University. Zucherberg didn't think much of his newly found creation. What Zucherburg thought would be something unextraordinary, in a matter of minutes, throughout all of Harvard, Facemash, what later turned into "Facebook", attracted 450 students and 22,000 photos uploaded in the fi |

Legalizing Marijuana in the United StatesFrom the perspective of America's controversial war on drugs, marijuana is one of its toughest enemies. And since alcohol and tobacco, two potentially life-threatening drugs, are legal the question begs why marijuana remains illegal throughout most of the United States. In fact, a 2010 study shows marijuana sent the least amount of people to the hospital for drug related reasons with only 27,000 visits, with alcohol coming in second with 35,000 "(The federal government's own statistics show that marijuana is safer than alcohol.)". Small quantities of the drug have been allowed in regions such as Europe, North America and South America. Moreover, Medical marijuana is currently legal in 23 states, with four of those states (Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Colorado) also allowing for recreational use. The penalties for the other 46 states generally range from simple to severe. In this argumentative essay, I seek to argue the reasons why both medicinal and recreational marijuana s |

Tobacco Use in OntarioTobacco use is the number one leading preventable cause of death and disease in Ontario killing over 13,000 people each year (Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care). Cigarettes should be illegal in Ontario. Smoking cigarettes harm your body, smoking affects those around you negatively and the billions of dollars in funds used to treat tobacco-related issues could go to use elsewhere. Admission Letter - Drexel University I want to make this clear; I've been dreaming about studying at Drexel since I was in grade school! I'm a twenty-year-old, African-American male born in West Philadelphia and raised in the suburbs with both my parents and my twin brother. Having been raised by both of my parents I knew I was privileged even as a young kid and I held onto an innate sense of being destined for greatness. My parents sent my brother and I to one of the best private schools in Philadelphia, St. Francis de Sales School. My parents gave us the best of everything so I'd like to assure the same for them and make them and my own family one-day proud of what I did in life. I plan to take advantage of everything life has to offer and make Drexel University proud to have a stake in my endeavors. Having attended one of the most diverse high schools in Philadelphia I became aware of and experienced so many different cultures and walks of life. This fact along with my affinity for reading all |

Connecting Lolita with The CollectorLolita by Vladimir Nabokov and The Collector by John Fowles, is an assertion of the power of spirit of love and obsession, but not as a natural, pure feeling. It is obsession that goes beyond control and regulation, obsession that in one way or another leads into the destruction of many human beings. This wild, strong passion imprisons the protagonists and flies beyond the established norms of society. This theme of 'obsessive love' exploits amorality, tragedy and destruction within the characters, revealing that – obsession can lead to loss in morality. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov is set in the time of 1947-1952 in unnamed locations in Europe and then all over the United States. Lolita triggers a deep conflict about crossing the line between obsessive-love and the perverse lust for a child. The dual personality of HumbertHumbert is captured and obsessed by the beauty and the spontaneous nature of a fourteen year old "nymphet", Dolores Haze who he nicknames Lolita, |

Renal Transplant EpidemiologyEpidemiology is the study of the exposure and health outcome of disease among populations (Lerner, & Lerner, 2007). Epidemiology is an increasingly important part of public health because rapidly increasing human populations provide a fertile breeding ground for microbes (Lerner, & Lerner, 2007). As the planet becomes more crowded and the distances separating communities become smaller, diseases that were once limited by geographic isolation are now able to spread globally (Lerner, & Lerner, 2007). In addition, many viruses and bacteria constantly evolve and shift among populations and across species (Lerner, & Lerner, 2007). Epidemiologists are concerned with the interactions of organisms and their environments (Lerner, & Lerner, 2007). Epidemiologists describe and analyze data to predict the etiology and the prevention methods to protect the population. Epidemiologists evaluate factors such as disease transmissibility from an infected person to a susceptible individual, the number av |

Hong Kong and the Elderly PopulationHong Kong's elderly citizens are currently facing numerous major problems which the government needs to address. The government has not placed a great deal of concern and attention on the aging population. The number of elderly continues to increase rapidly in Hong Kong. It was predicted that the elderly population in Hong Kong would increase to 1,620,000 in 2016 (Fok 1998). Because of the increase of elderly people the cost to our society will be substantial. The elderly population is a group of citizens that require a great deal of medical and social assistance and protection. According to the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, it is reported that more than 70% of the elderly population has been diagnosed with a chronic disease (C&SD; 2009). Tyranny of the MinorityThe United States of America is highly notorious for its democratic government that openly distinguishes the country as one that serves its people like what Lincoln supposed as a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. However, despite the belief that the majoritatian policy always prevails, Tyranny of the Minority , 2009, by Bishin, otherwise rejects it. He proves that politicians do not always turn out towards the democratic ideals of the government. Bishin conducts a test using statistical social psychology and the identity theory and proves that candidates prefer issues that constituencies are strongly passionate about. As we take a more rigorous look into the American government, the intensity of the voters in minority and active groups regarding certain issues is the driving force for candidates' participation. Bishin take a turn and confronts Paul Frymer's theory of the median voter and marginalization of the minority groups by explaining his subconstituency |

Proposal for Launching a Sex Education CampaignIn consideration of the facts that youngsters nowadays are holding an increasingly open attitude towards sex and that sex-related crimes are on the rise, our school is going to hold a 'Sex Education Campaign' to equip students with better knowledge of sex, and to inculcate correct messages as to sex into their minds. As the President of the Students' Union, I do have a role to play in this activity, and some constructive propositions of activities are put forth in the following. Inviting Experts to Give a Talk Nowadays, a multitude of parents and teachers deem sex education a taboo given their conservativeness. Such a norm indeed gives rise to the lack of correct sex knowledge of students. In the light of this, it is suggested that the school invite some professionals who have professional expertise in sex education, such as professionally trained personnel, social workers, and doctors, to come and give a talk on how seriously students should treat sex. Why College Athletes Should Not Be PaidJust like any field, you go to college to perfect your skills and learn about the different jobs in the field you are pursuing. College sports are no different from this. In collegiate sports you play to get to become a professional, not to earn a paycheck as a student. However, college athletes should receive some kind of compensation for their hard work and dedication, like the possibility of other compensations such as money to cover trips home or laundry. The overall feelings are clear that the student athlete has the right to choose whether to attend college or not based on what is being offered and they can choose not to go to school if that is their desire. However, college athletes are not professionals and therefore should not be paid. The purpose of going to college is to get training and knowledge for a career that you will pursue in your future. That's what the National Collegiate Athlete Association provides. Athletes play at the college level and they further use that ex |

Baseball - The All-American SportThere are three good reasons why baseball will always be the popular All-American sport. One reason is baseball is a great Fourth of July and summer sport. Second, it has a great history with Hall of Famers. Third, everyone has grown up playing the sport. Baseball is a great summer and Fourth of July Sport. For example, I play Outfield for the New Jersey Cyclones and we played one of the top teams in Florida down the shore called the Florida Marlins. My team lost by a score of nine to one. Despite the loss, the high competition provided the players with great practice for the season. One author explains that baseball is a great sport because it brings families together. "There is no other sport like baseball where you can sit above a beautiful baseball diamond in the nice weather with a hot dog and a soda with your family." (Castrovince 1) During the summer and Fourth of July is when all the baseball tournaments occur to see who the best club teams are. Another author expla |

Uncle Tom's Cabin - Harriet Beecher StoweUncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe on April 20th, 1852; the book was written to portray Stowe's perspective and opinion on the southern way of life. This book was to lay down the kindling for the American Civil War. In the twentieth century the book was made into a movie twice, for the first time in 1927 in which it was a silent movie. The second time was in 1987 almost sixty years later. The descriptions I am giving are based off of the cinema from 1987. In this era slaves were a popular thing to own in the South, some border states would own slaves both household and field. The household slaves typically women or young children. In the book Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet bestows us with the dilemma of originally two slaves being traded off to pay their owners debt off. In the beginning of the book, as payment a well educated, religious, hard working slave is traded along with a young boy. When word gets around the hard working slave; Tom, accepts this fate; but the |

Females and Body ImageOver the past decade, there has been a notable expansion in research relating to body image and sexuality. However, most researchers have conceptualized and measured this concept in a variety of different ways. This can be explained by the fact the studies have sampled participants of different ages, even though other demographic variables such as education are significantly comparable. Correlational analysis, which is widely adopted in these studies, indicates a notable correlation of body dissatisfaction in relation to body image and female sexuality. This brings difficulty in drawing one coherent conclusion across studies. The primary focus of this paper is to better understand how body image is related to female sexual functioning and behavior. Based on scientific literature, it's not easy to explain the relationship between body image and sexuality. The reviews done across studies clearly show existence of direct relationship on major aspects of female sexual functioning and behavior with negative body evaluations. Mostly, women with negative body image have low body satisfaction during sexual interactions with their partners. According to Ackard et al. (200 |

Beowulf - The Geatish WarriorThe character of a Geatish warrior named Beowulf, in the epic, Beowulf, sails to Denmark in hopes of protecting the Danes from great turmoil. Upon doing so Beowulf can be viewed as a good candidate for kingship, but it is not the battles themselves, rather the traits Beowulf possesses that lead people to believe he would eventually be a renowned King. Although Beowulf does not become a king for fifty years, his days as a young warrior shed light on the characteristics he obtains that allow him to be fit for an assent to the throne. By embodying the values of the Germanic heroic code, courtesy, pride and loyalty along with courage, it is easy to believe that Beowulf would be a great King. Beowulf exemplifies many characteristics of a good king, one of them being courtesy. Beowulf first shows courtesy to the king Hrothgar when he gives him his "hero's resume". Beowulf exclaims "They had seen me bolstered in the blood of enemies/ when I battled and bound five beasts, rai |

Literary Analysis - Brave New WorldThe protagonist of Brave New World shifts towards the middle of the book. At first the reader is introduced to Bernard as the character who will make things right. However, later in the story, John is brought in and Bernard's character loses popularity. Nonetheless, the main desire of both protagonists is to achieve satisfaction in their lives through their love interests, solidarity, and their influence on society. Bernard pursues Lenina, and eventually so does John. The two characters both have more similarities to Lenina than any of the women in the World State. Lenina, however; still values the traditions of her society and thus, does not end up with either of them. On an occasion where Henry described Lenina as someone he wishes to have sex with, "Bernard Marx overheard what they were saying and turned pale" (Huxley 32). In a society where love is inexistent and sex isn't a personal matter, Bernard gets sick at the thought of someone else being with this woman who he has no commitment to. Bernard found that "sport, women, communal activities were only, so far as he was concerned, second bes |

Automated Coating MachineAbstract During the course of history the manufacturing process has drastically changed. The idea of the manufacturing process is to create something that is useful. Manufacturing itself can be defined as the use of machines or tools and labor to make things for trade or sale. Manufacturing years ago was done by very skilled artisans and the work was very crucial to their livelihood. This process consisted of hard labor and long hours to produce anything. We have come a long way from items being custom made by hand to mass productions of those same items made by machines. This change began in England in the 18th century and is now known as the Industrial Revolution. Along with the change in the manufacturing process came a change within the material world. Not only were new materials introduced, but pre-existing materials were improved and enhanced. When dealing with materials such as metals, corrosion, friction and insulation issues come into play. Coating metals is the most widesp |
