Comparing Fields of PsychologyWithin the field of psychology, there are so many different specialties and fields that people go into. There are psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, and psychologists who all have psychological interests and careers but do different activities on a daily basis and have been through different training. There are also clinical psychologists and counseling psychologists who do very different things at work compared to one another. Psychology is a wide field with many opportunities in today's society. "Psychiatrists give patients drugs, not hugs, " says psychologist Shannon Odell of the Mayo Clinic. (1) Psychiatrists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental health and emotional issues. A Psychiatrist is the health professional who distinguishes between physical or psychological causes to either physical or psychological issues. (2) Psychiatrists must go to medical school with very few choices allowed for them. They must take biochemistry, chemi |

Unemployment - Handouts or Hard Work? For many years the debate of governmental assistance and its legitimacy has raged throughout the general public as well as our government. On one end there are the tax payers that work hard over long spans for every penny that they earn. In contrast to that, there are others who fall back on our governmental assistance programs. Having experience in both, employed and unemployed discourses, I would agree there are those who resent governmental assistance as well as those who abuse it. I am willing to admit that many of those whom are unemployed in our society are unemployed for a legitimate reason (i.e. layoffs, disability, etc ). Although there are those who truly need it; there are definitely those who abuse it. I would argue that a shorter time limit should be transcribed into the unemployment application process so that the cycle of abuse can be confronted and minimized. I would like to direct our government's attention to this issue showing how timeliness and fraud directly link t |

My Experience as a Student Catechist"You cannot create experience. You must undergo and learn from it. " (Camus, A. n.d.). This quote caught my attention because I remember that these words were told by our adviser in catechist. So as I was reflecting, I remember my experience during my high school days " when I became a student catechist. Student catechist are the volunteered people who engage their selves teaching young children neglecting their state in life whether they are rich or poor. The only purpose or goal of a catechist is to teach and deepen their thoughts about God. During 2011, I started being a student catechist in our school. At first, I just join in that organization because of the credits and benefits of being one of it. So on that purpose, I became a catechist without having a better reason to be one. We always go in a particular school to t |

A World of Mixed CulturesIn a world full of multiracial cultures, a lot of things remain controversial. In the editorial "Multiracial America" by Opposing Viewpoints Online, gives us various examples of the impact of interracial dating, as well as the topic of foreigners marrying americans. Lauren S. Mash, who wrote an different article but was included in this editorial, stated that many Caucasian americans have "Yellow Fever" & Many Asians who come to America only date Caucasian men. The editorial then goes on to say that that happens because a lot of people want to get away from their culture and immerse themselves better in the American culture. They are not racist, but they came for a new life and want to be seen as something other than a foreigner. If we were all blind, what would really matter? For Racism is a figment of our imagination. Without colors involved, everyone is still a human. The film in theaters now, "Dear White People," is not about one viewpoint so don't l |

Symphonie FantastiqueSymphonie Fantastique, is a symphony composed by Hector Berlioz in 1830. The author was inspired by the Shakespearean actress Henriette Constance Smithson, whom he loved madly, to compose this work. It is a beautiful and clear example of program music. It contains five movements that have changes in mood, rhythm, instrumentation and dynamics that will all be described and related to the plot thoroughly. In the first movement, Reveries, Passions, the idée fixe is altered by its loud dynamics. The mood for this movement is energetic, vibrant and it is characterized by its liveliness and high-spiritedness. The accompaniment is mainly done with instruments such as violins I and violins II. By listening carefully, one is able to hear that these violins are accompanying with eight notes. Additionally, the changing rhythm with its rising melody portrays the author's idea of his beloved coming again and again to his head. At the same time, he remember the joys |

The Importance of Reading and WrittingMany people have a special hate for writing and reading, some say it's simply just because they don't like to read or write, but if they look deeper into it there is probably a more probable cause for despising these benevolent skills. These aren't just something that we have to use to get through school and never use again, these are tools that we will use for the rest of our lives, and rather it be to write a resume for a job or just to read a good book for entertainment. Although reading and writing isn't many people's idea of fun these are very essential in our ability to achieve our higher goals. In my case it took a while before I could realize how much I actually like to read and write. I started in the same general way that others do, mom and dad reading to me throughout my childhood and learning my ABC's with those little annoying books that had the lines with every letter on a different lines. Some of my fondest memories are sitting on my bed watching my mom and dad make fo |

This paper discusses various international agreements made by governments for the protection of the environment. Next, it outlines the three principles of sustainability: the precautionary principle, the proximity principle and the polluter pays principle. Textbooks and iPads as Modes of LearningPaper has officially been replaced with I-Pads. Well not necessarily, but there are students on a daily basis using over 1.5 million I-Pads in their classrooms rather than using printed textbooks as their main learning resource. With recent advancements in technology, many school districts have turned their focus off traditional learning methods of using textbooks, and are now focusing on integrating the use of tablets and computers as the main means of learning for students. Technology is going to continue to advance throughout this digital age and is going to gain popularity within education, but there are questions arising of how effective technology is over the use of written text in the classroom. There are many experts who believe that the opportunity of using new technology to enhance learning should be seized, but textbooks should not become extinct within the education system or become a secondary learning method due to tablets and other types of technology becoming increasing |

Plato - An Ideal State Based on JusticePlato's ideal state is based on justice. A just state is one that is imposed by the Idea of Good. This is only possible if the rulers are wise, that is, philosophers who have managed to penetrate the world of ideas. The idea of property should guide the state and the individual. Citizens will be happy if they are governed by the most wise and just person. Only well-educated person will know put the good of reason, the good of the soul to the body. Knowing what's really important, what is right, wrong, what is right and wrong, should not be left to anyone, only the philosopher can adequately answer these questions. Greek life was essentially a communal life. Social life was natural, but what is the best political organization for that company. In Plato's Republic is the question about the ideal state. The task of the ruling will be to monitor that this order is maintained, each party to perform its function and that |

Dante Alighieri and the Great InfernoIn the epic "Dante's Inferno," " by Dante Alighieri, no scene of violence exists for its own sake. Dante Alighieri's epic confronts the reader and audience with a sense of violence, portrayed like no other. With the abandonment of hope at the gates of hell, the scenes in the epic are able to be described so gruesomely and paint a vivid picture of what the nine circles of hell are like. The majority of the imagery used in the poem is meant to scare the readers and send chilling thoughts into their minds. The epic was the first one of its kind because it actually gives hell an image and depicts it in some of the images that only nightmares will tell. Throughout the epic, Dante is forced to experience every level of hell in order to get to heaven and the love of his life. From the first circle, to the last circle, many forms of violence and torture are witnessed by Dante, but all of the different violent acts of torture have their own specific meanings. With the abandonment of hope, events like the stormy winds of circle II, the pushing of rocks and useless labor in circle IV, and the submerging of killers in the blood of circle VII are all violent acts of torture |

Fahrenheit 451 - Predictions to RealityIn Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury he made many predictions of things that would evolve and become present in today's society. Ray Bradbury predicted that our society would change in a lot of ways and overall would become controlled by the government. This isn't really accurate to today's society as far as the government controlling us but a lot of his other predictions did come true. In Fahrenheit 451 predictions that are true today are that people are obsessed with their large T.V screens, people talking to their friends through a digital wall, and people will use electronic automated banking systems. In the book everyone is obsessed with their parlor walls and TV's they feel as if they are part of a family with the people on the show. In today's society that applies pretty well to what people do. People today have their huge TV screens that pretty much take up an entire wall that they are so sucked into. Out of all the predictions this one was the most accurate one he made because today people are so obsessed with their television that don't even no |

How Legalizing Marijuana Will Impact SocietyThe legalization of marijuana has been a topic of debate for many years now. However, with the legalization of marijuana for both recreational and medical use in Colorado other states are sure to follow in their foot steps. Recently Washington DC has decriminalized the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana. Previously the penalty for such an offense would be up to six months in jail and/or a $1500 dollar fine. Not to mention a criminal record which could cause a social stigma. Now, the penalty has been reduced to a mere $25 dollar civil fine which is the equivalent of a parking ticket. Washington is not the only state to lessen the punishment for carrying marijuana but, 16 other states have also decriminalized the substance. With these changes slowly occurring state by state it is only a matter of time before the country as a whole legalizes marijuana. The problem is that as the momentum for pro marijuana supporters begin to pick up, many non smokers and non supporters of marijuana |

College Life and Fraternity PartiesOne of the best experiences as a freshman in college is getting to meet new people and experience new things. Down in Tucson at the University of Arizona the best way to do that is to join a sorority or to know people in one. Girls who are in a sorority are the ones who get to experience the adrenaline rush of going to a frat party. Any girls can get into the party as well as receive special treatment from all the guys and have access to the good alcohol. A frat party is an exciting event considering the sights, sounds, and smells that one experiences. Fraternity parties are the definition of what a party is, boys everywhere and girls half naked. Almost every house has some sort of damaged property wether it be a beaten down door or broken window presumably caused by someone who had way to much to drink. As I walk in I see furniture everywhere. There are chairs stacked up in a corner that start to look like the leaning tower of pisa ready to fall at any second, stay away from that. Th |

Commercial SurrogacyElizabeth Anderson believes that surrogacy, in any form, should not be legal because it does not take into account a woman's emotional stability after the surrogacy process has been completed. Not only is commercial surrogacy considered alienated labor, but it also humiliates and exploits women no matter what contract or rules are enforced. She also believes that surrogacy does not give women the reverence they deserve. These three points all stem from the idea that others fail to acknowledge the surrogate mother's commitment with her labor and the emotions behind it all. All of Anderson's points concerning the legality of commercial surrogacy due to the idea that it creates alienated labor, humiliation, and exploitation are all valid arguments, in my opinion, though some may object because surrogacy alleviates infertility. Anderson's first objection to surrogacy stems from her idea that surrogacy can become alienated labor if not gone about in the correct way. She states, "by r |

Duncan's Death - Placing Responsibility in MacbethMacbeth Final Essay In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth murdered the former king of Scotland, Duncan, in his home. Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth snuck into the room of Duncan, drugged his guards and once the guards were knocked out, Macbeth plunged a knife directly into Duncan. We certainly know that Macbeth is the person who is directly responsible for Duncans death, but there is another who had a major influence on Macbeths choice to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth. When Macbeth heard his fate from the witches he immediately started thinking about how he was going to get rid of King Duncan. And once Macbeth became Thane of Cawdor, he decided that he was going to need to kill Duncan and he decided to start coming up with a plan. When Macbeth sends Lady Macbeth the letter telling her what |

My Career Goal - Becoming a ChiropractorWhen I was fourteen, I injured my back playing competitive hockey. Through multiple treatments it wasn't getting better and I was forced to stay immobile. After a few treatments with a chiropractor, I was back on the ice enjoying the ability to participate without pain. Since then it has been my goal to become a chiropractor. I realized my talent for sports at a very early stage in my life. As a kid I took a fancy to playing outside, participating in all athletic events, and watching the older kids play sports. In school, I was determined to play as many sports as possible. I played everything from volleyball to hockey and even some contact games, for example, rugby and football. The human body and all of the miraculous things it could do fascinated me. My parents told me at a very young age that sports would help me gain an entrance into universities. In parallel to my passion for athletics, I was also developing a keen interest in rehabilitation and different health practices. More s |

The Legislative Evolution of Design-Build in TexasQuestion Should the Texas Legislature permit the use of alternative project delivery methods (PDM's) by all agencies in the public construction sector? Response Although Texas building statutes have historically protected the owner's interest in the public construction sector by standardizing 'contact price' as the lone criteria for competitive contract bidding, adopting alternative procurement methods with revised evaluation criteria will increase the flexibility, efficiency, and quality performance associated with construction services. The public construction industry, which builds facilities used for government related activities and/or financed by public funds, is subject to more stringent building statutes and regulations then construction in the private sector (i.e. retail, residential, and commercial). These additional statutes regulate wage rates, subcontracting, and contract bidding procedures. Traditionally, public construction projects were required to utilize compe |

A Worthy Fool in As You Like It: TouchstoneIn many of his plays, Shakespeare is able to use characters in a very exciting way. Certain characters are able to transform the entire play in a special way. For Romeo and Juliet, there is Friar Lawrence, Julius Caesar there is Casca, and for As You Like It there is Touchstone. Even though these characters may not be the focus of the play, they do have an indiscrete purpose and serve what turns out to be a paramount role. In the play As You Like It, Shakespeare creates the character Touchstone and uses his quick wit and playful attitude to add an additional amount of comedy. Everything about him is fairly entertaining, from his clothing to his personality and even his name. A touchstone is actually used to test the purity of metals. When scrapping gold against touchstone, it will leave a line of dust that someone can use to show how untainted it is. Much like the stone touchstone, Touchstone has the skill to expose human beings by using his wittiness to scratch their surface. This i |

World War II and the Appeasement TheoryThis essay analyses the responsibility of Neville Chamberlain and his highly controversial Appeasement theory which hypothetically prevented the outbreak of the Second World War. The policy of Appeasement epitomised by the Munich agreement, is a pact signed in 1938 between Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy, which allowed Hitler to annex Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland (area along Czech borders) to prevent the onset of a major war. Appeasement has been drastically criticised since it ended in a "humiliating failure" when Germany attacked Poland in 1939 (McDonough, 2002). This essay also evaluates two significant appraisals of the Munich agreement, described in McDonough's (2002) exhaustive book: a first, which asserts that it was an utterly unwholesome policy of despicable capitulation and a second, instigated by the 'revisionist historians' - exemplified by Taylor's (1963) controversial book - which comprehends it as an elaborated policy enabling Chamberlai |

The Uphill, Complex Battle for Same Sex MarriageThe complex topic of same sex marriage is based on should we or shouldnt we accept it. What is the point of marriage? Marriage shouldnt be available to only a man and a woman. Where I stand in this case is in agreement with same sex marriage. In the readings Whats in a word? For Better, For Worse and Gay Marriage, the authors explain the different outlooks that many people have upon how a traditional marriage is worked and on the fact of how children are affected in this situation. Whether it is okay for one to go through such troubles the way our generation has become is most definitely different than it was in the past. Many traditions have charged over the past years. Nothing is the same. Even holidays are celebrated differently in this day and age. Many things have become acceptable in society but we still tend to not accept same sex marriages. The first source I am using is Gay Marriage which states that fewer than half the American children this year will live to the age 18 wit |

Chicago and the Citizens Who Define ItChicago has its good and bad because of the people who define it. In the poem "Chicago", Sandburg is able to identify the existence of both good and bad in the city of Chicago because of his reliability, his descriptions of the Chicagoans, and the way he structures the poem. Sandburg's portrayal of Chicago is effective because of the realistic and reliable view that is used in this poem. He acknowledges that though a lot of admirable, hard work is done in Chicago, bad things happen too. In the second stanza, Sandburg admits that there are "painted women under the gas lamps luring the farm boys" (Sandburg, 85, 6-8) and "[gunmen killing] and [going] free to kill again" (85, 9-10). He doesn't deny that these repellent events take place in Chicago; he confirms that they do and that he has seen them happen. It is made clear that Sandburg has a deep love for Chicago by how he follows his recognition of the bad, "Come and show me another city with lifte |

Choosing Life - Taking a Stand Against AbortionThirteen weeks, a beating heart, the curves and grooves of a finger print, and an ounce of matter is slowly developing into a human being. There is a girl, only eighteen, hardly a mother. Just trying to graduate is hard enough without all the stares and snide remarks. No partner to help her through the ups and downs of parenthood, but she can do it. Her doctor suggested abortion. Why not? It would certainly make things easier. She refuses to give up and take the easy way out. This is not a game, it is a human beings life. She is not a murder. Abortion is murder. Many people would argue that abortion is not murder for a number of reasons. It is commonly said that the embryo is still attached to the mother, therefore raising the argument that the embryo is not its own living organism, making it morally okay to terminate. Most abortions take place in the first trimester. In the first trimester, gender is unknown. With no gender, the embryo is unsympathetically referred to as it, making i |

Gender Expectations"Purple is for girls and blue is for boys!'' exclaimed the dad to his son. The kid poured in tears because he wanted a purple ball but his dad did not let him get it because of the color. Children are learning from a young age what rolls they should take as male and female through their surroundings including their family, Disney movies, and toys. Society has influence children's gender development. Parents being one of the main ones teach their children with reward and discipline. For example, parents may cheer for their daughter for baking a cake, but they might be upset with their son for doing the same thing. Parents also teach them by spending time with them. Children see what their parents do and try to imitate them. For example, the daughter might see her mom doing the dishes and the son might see his dad fixing the car. Not only their actions but also the comments coming from the parents may influence in children's gender development. The mom might say that she can not fix t |

Themes of Rivalry in OthelloIn the play, Othello, by William Shakespeare, the memorable ideas have been presented through dramatic techniques by the characterization of Iago and Othello. As stated in Kelley Griffith's, Writing Essays about Literature, characterization develops the traits of the characters just like Iago and Othello. These rivals make plots of their own that eventually merge together to form the theme of the play (Griffith 93). These two characters are the cause and effect of the play and through them, the destruction of human nature, the question of the effect that love can have on our ability to reason and the deceptive nature of man are explored. Love links the ideas of jealousy and deception, as Iago manipulates this strong emotion to his advantage. Also, Shakespeare's dramatic technique of presenting this story as a play is what is able to reveal all the ideas and themes to the extent that the full emotion and feelings are able to be felt by the audience, just the way he wants them to.
