Women and the ChurchDuring the Age of Reformation many believed that immorality began to take hold of the people. Women especially were accused and punished for many actions including, unwed pregnancies, "inficide", witchcraft, and women who sought to live independently or rather without a superior male. Many women were jailed, fined, banished and if the offense great enough executed. Though Protestants and Catholics differed in their theology, they both seemed to perceive women in the same roles and have the same expectations. Throughout the Middle Ages the church was a daily part of life for the commoners. The church would check in with families to ensure that no immoral activities were being committed. If a rumor began about someone, the clerics would hold a "visitation" to meet with the suspect and decide for themselves if an immoral crime had been committed. Most often these rumors included the pregnancy of an unwed woman. Women whom found themselves in this situation would often |

Learning from the PastI remember it vividly: September 15, 2013. Fortuitous enough, I had a free period all to myself during the last class of that day. As I meandered through the bustling halls on the way to my locker to collect some unfinished homework, the vexatious school bell sent a ringing through my eardrums. Immediately, the barbarous animals of high school began to bolt towards their current classes, gone in a flash. The halls, usually still and muted after the bell, had a newly born disruption with the sudden hollering of teenage boys. The bellows took me by surprise, but of course I thought nothing of it and continued to trek on to reach my destination. However, on my way, a group of boys had laid in my path, adorned with backwards hats and battered sports jerseys all gathered in a tight-knit circle. Taken aback, I could not help but pause and observe such an unusual sight. The boys, pointing and laughing, jeered at the core of their ring of jocks. Curiosity rushed through m |

Book Review - "1776" by David McCulloughI read a David McCullough book "1776 ". The intended audience is people who are interested in the United States historical events that had major influence on today's state of the country. Thus, the intended audience is wide. This book tells the story of the extreme challenges General Washington faced trying to get rag-tag army together in 1776. It also describes the sacrifices early countrymen had to make. 1776 is mainly a military history tracing the tragic events of the year in which the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The struggle in the New York or in New Jersey theater would designates the fate of New York City (the most strategically important urban center in the fledgling nation). Much of the book focuses on Commander-in-Chief General George Washington. He sometimes unnecessarily risked his army's destruction attempting to match wits with more competent and experienced British generals. Somehow Washington managed to hold the American army together, despite a string of defeats and disasters in that fateful year. Dav |

Global Business Research for RussiaCulture Russian culture is different than other countries. Russians seem to have more of a pessimistic view in comparison to Americans. The people tend to expect things to go wrong and have learned to deal with misfortune. The religion has been Russian-Orthodox for almost 1000 years. The country is now growing to be more of a Western culture, although it will take time to get there completely. The main language of Russia is Russian. Russia has a different education system and the children are taught in a very black and white manner. The answer is right or wrong and never an explanation to why? Students aren't able to think for themselves and Higher Level thinking skills is out of the question (Goehner). Russian people are said to be, patient, compassionate and sensitive but also can be very cruel and untrustworthy. When meeting people Russians are very laid back, one wouldn't expect a bunch of smiles. Handshakes are appropriate when meeting and leaving although one must remove their gl |

Linguistics Essay - Culture and LanguageFor my research paper I was able to do my research paper on cultural and language simply because I found it to be something I can relate to and interesting to find more research on. Culture and language rely a lot on each other. In today's society of the world, there are many cultures inside of one country. All countries have their own unique ways of life in the differences of how people are raised and their different locations. Many people migrate to other countries and feel lost at times due to this. More frequently, nations have been trying to mingle their own ways with others in America to create diversity that goes around the world. Cultural is defined by anthropology in a variety of ways. The definition usually includes some notion of shared values, beliefs, expectations, customs, jargon and rituals. Language is the set of common sound and symbols which individuals communicate with. Societies may include a number of cultures and languages. For example, while the majority of Amer |

Encoding and Decoding Model of CommunicationFor the purpose of this paper, we will apply Stuart Hall's Encoding and Decoding Model of Communication to analyze the popular television show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air starring Will Smith. In Hall's essay, he puts together a four stage model of communication that talks about the production, circulation, use and reproduction of media messages. Hall's model of communication is different than the traditional model because he argues that communication works in a cycle, rather than just going from point A to point B. We will take each of the four steps and tell how the show uses these steps. The first step in the Encoding and Decoding Model of Communication is production. Production is when the encoding of a message is based off of society's beliefs and values. In terms of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air the encoding of the message occurs from the clothes the producers choose for the actors, the script the writers produce, the actors that the casting agency chooses, and the way the acto |

Film Review - A Knight's TaleHave you ever wondered how much of the Movie a knight's tale is real and unreal, well I have and in my opinion this movie was very unrealistic. There are a few reasons why this movie is unrealistic. One of them is the whole basis of the movie of how a knight's squire would just take his place after his death. Another would be how Sir William the squire that took the knights place in the film would actually think of breaking his social class to joust in tournament as a knight. But there are also many things the film depicts correctly. Those are just some of the reasons why I think this movie is more unrealistic than realistic. The basis of this movie has a very touchy idea to it. The man William in the movie is with his other two servant friends helping their lord or knight in a jousting competition. But before the knight is about to joust in the competition the squire and the servant find their knight dead un |

Cell Cycle Control and CancerCell is the smallest unit of life. It is what makes organisms live till today. Without cells in organisms, there would not be life. The human, animal, plants and other organism not mentioned all have different organs in them with different functions. The cells are the unit that keeps them alive. The continuity of live is based on the reproductions of cells. The cells do not just reproduce anyhow. It has a control system and it is this control system that keeps the cell reproducing the right way and reproducing the right amount so as not to invade organs or produce and cause serious problems in the organ. Once the cells starts to reproduce excessively and do not controls over it, then that results into tumor cells otherwise known as the cancer cells. Cells reproduce or divide just as it is needed. We must know that every cell does die. Every cells in the living organism as its own lifespan and depending on what type of cell it is and what type of function it helps per |

Texans and CongressAs most of us should know, the government of the United States is made up of three branches, one being the legislative branch. This branch, also called The Congress, is responsible for making laws. Congress is made up of two houses: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Representation in the Senate is fixed at two senators per state, while representation in the House is proportional to each state's population. With the following, we will learn more about who our Texas representatives are. One of the two senators that represent Texas in the Congress is John Cornyn. Sen. Cornyn is a Republican who was first elected senator on November 5, 2002 and was later re-elected in 2008. From this, we can infer that he has been in the Congress for now 11 years and is currently on his second term. Before this, in 1990 he was elected Republican to the Texas Supreme Court, on which he served for seven years and later served in San Antonio as a district judge for six years. In 1998, Cornyn dec |

Unnatural Darkness in MacbethEvil is the disease in Macbeth's mind that is causing his sanity to decay and is making him become a terror for everyone in Scotland during his reign. The destructive protagonist, Macbeth, is a tyrant in the play for the reason of him killing innocent victims to get his way, especially King Duncan, his best friend, and lastly his fellow thane's family. In The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, he uses darkness to represent unnatural and evil found all over the play.William Shakespeare also includes the hideously evil witches into the play purposely to entertain King James I's fascination with witches. Macbeth in real life was actually a great king, but Shakespeare knew that a play about a thane killing his king to get into Scottish royalty would not sit well with the recently crowned King James. Macbeth allows himself to becomes accustomed to getting his way through murder and then lets the evil seep through him like a plant needing sunlight to live. The tragic hero's impending |

Technology and the Education SystemThe effects that technology has had on education in the past few years have been many. As little as ten years ago, computers or smartphones were not a commonplace in everyone's daily lives. Now, most people carry around a ˜tiny computer' wherever they go and are able to use one device for many different tasks. Students are now able to use technology to help them with assignments or to even turn them in. In recent years, technology has become commonplace in many classrooms in order to teach and engage students. But due to the technological advances in recent years, it has also become increasingly hard for students to think creatively, build relationships with the people around them, and have great communication skills. Relying on the easy access of the Internet hinders their development into the 'grown up' world. One of the biggest challenges of education and the Internet going hand in hand, is that students lose the ability to think creatively on their own. "Over the past few |

Tapping Out - The Water Bottle DebateïI argue that Cuyamaca College should ban plastic water bottles on campus because eliminating the use of disposable water bottles will aid in the movement for a better environment for society and decrease the negative effects it has on our health. The campus should promote the use of tap water through the installation of more drinking fountains and water stations and educate students on why the ban is in effect. Plastic water bottles are linked to numerous health issues and are proven to contribute to the development of different diseases. Though the idea of keeping convenient plastic bottles around seems harmless, there are chemicals that are in the plastic that companies use to produce the bottles. It is a common thing to keep a case in one's trunk to make for easy hydration on the go. However, However considering that heat changes the composition can create a potentially deadly risk for the body. Plastic bottles are made of different chemicals that are designed to be stored at a |

Urbanization in Bosnia and Herzegovina-The concept of the city is often identified as a larger settlement in which the majority population lives and is engaged in non-agricultural activities: handicrafts, trade, industry, etc. -During the second half of the fourteenth and early fifteenth century, is the starting phase of distinctly urban development in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the emergence and development of several small city village. This development was caused by the rapid development of commodity-money economy (exploitation mineral resources: mercury, lead, iron and partly of gold and copper; manufacturing, trade, etc.). This is mainly on a number of smaller urban settlements that were created with the mines or in near them. Dynamic development of mining encourage the development of export trade and the emergence of larger number of smaller urban settlements that arise along the natural road to the Adriatic coast. The largest of these grow in traffic and trade hub of regional significance. -Intensive urba |

The Cinematic Power of IMAXThroughout the history of film, the main goal of producers, directors, actors, and anyone else working on a movie, was to captivate audiences. Whether it was through a great story or dazzling actors and actresses, movies were made to make money, bringing people to the theatre and hopefully putting a good product in front of the masses. As time has gone on, the movie industry has changed drastically, as well as the way people watch movies. Now like never before, movie companies are creating a movie-going experience unlike any that has ever happened, this is through the likes of IMAX and IMAX 3-D viewing. IMAX, which is an abbreviation for Image MAXimum, has changed the way we watch movies since its technological development and arrival to the movie industry. This new system has taken away the importance of the story of a film, instead focusing on the excitement, visuals that will truly leave a lasting image in the minds of moviegoers. Abortion - Morally Right or Wrong?Morality to me is the distinction between good and bad and right or wrong concerning principles of one's character. We are taught at a young age the difference between good and bad behavior and right or wrong choices, and we are taught about the consequences that follow. As we get older the choices we make get harder and the consequences have a greater effect. If you get yourself into debt you have to work harder to pay it off. If one has sex they may get pregnant. Which leads to the question: is it morally correct to terminate the pregnancy? Abortion has been one of the most divisive moral issues among Americans for many years. I personally feel it is unethical and morally wrong to abort a healthy pregnancy. Since the early 1800s abortion was considered illegal: "felony manslaughter " (Gorney, 20). Many women died during or after illegally performing abortions. For many years "Ministers who had volunteered to defy their states' abortion laws set up clandestine alliances " (Gorney, 31 |

The Thirty Years War (1618-1648)The Thirty Years War was one of the most important and devastating wars in European history. The results of it changed the course of history in many ways. When the Treaty of Westphalia was signed, many aspects of European society were changed dramatically. Two significant changes were that the Thirty Years War altered the balance of power between countries and also impacted the role and influence of religion across the continent. First of all, the Treaty of Westphalia was signed at the end of the war in 1648 after four years of negotiations. The players involved were the territories in Germany, the Holy Roman Empire, the provinces of the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Sweden, as well as France and Spain. This treaty drastically changed the balance of power between these territories. Germany had always been divided into multiple provinces, but with the war being fought on German soil, the country was shattered into hundreds of smaller territories, consequently leaving the country fragmented with no unified power. In the course of the war, hundreds of thousands of people were killed and |
