Poetry Analysis - MetamorphosesThere is a definite relationship between art and its everlasting power to change the world around us. It is a subtle power that evokes emotions and ignites questions. It has the ability to inspire and the potential to change. Art provides a glimpse into windows of truths that we as humans are sometimes too afraid to look at and too coward to address. It greets age old themes such as love, grief, passion and death. Whether seen in a painting or heard in a song, the many different forms of art prove time after time that it a force to be reckoned with and a force that will never die. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, readers get a glimpse into the wondrous powers and deep meanings of art as seen through the stories of Arachne and Orpheus. Both stories explore a vast array of themes using art as its telescope to explore the microcosm of human suffering and loss. As its title suggests, it transforms the reader's perception, giving art a much more profound meaning. "Arachne's distinction lay n |

Four Types of Female Sexual DysfunctionFemale sexual dysfunction is a persistent, recurring problem with sexual response or desire that can cause a strain to your relationship. Most women experience this at some point in their lives. It can occur at any stage of life and can be ongoing or an occasional occurrence. Women can experience more than one type of dysfunction including low sexual desire, orgasmic disorder, sexual arousal disorder, and sexual pain disorder. The first type of female sexual dysfunction is low sexual desire. Low sexual desire is a lack of interest in sex. Many factors contribute to low sexual desire, such as hormonal changes, medical conditions or pregnancy. It can also occur when a woman gets bored with their regular sexual routines. American Romanticism and The Raven"The Raven," by Edgar Allen Poe, is a dark but unrealistic approach to the horror genre, which in no means a dreadful thing. Later on in my following paragraphs I will go into depth about three qualities and three examples from the writing to perceive that I fully understood the concept of American Romanticism. The true definition of Romanticism is literary and artistic movement of the 19th century that rose in reaction to the 18th century Neoclassicism. I will be going into depth about how Romanticism is a key part of the poem by informing you of key spots where Romanticism is commonly used. Edgar Allen Poe, one of the most famous poets and authors from the 19th century. He wrote tons of exciting and mysterious works that intrigue even the most fatigued readers. Almost all his stories, or poems deal with mystery and depression. His unbound imagination cre |

The Scientific Revolution and the EnlightenmentThe Scientific Revolution which resulted in the Enlightenment had much significance that helped influence the American Revolution. the American Revolution was fueled because Great Britain started to control the American colonies through laws by restricting territorial expansion, imposing taxes, and they were also being stripped of their freedom. So you see, America grew tired of the supremacy of Great Britain and the ruling in which America had to fight for their freedom. I believe that this is what sparked the American Revolution. Great Britain colonized most of the colonies in North America. The colonies were tied to Britain through trade. Trey had been restricted so they had to depend on the British for imported goods and supplies. There wasn't much money so colonists used barter and credit to get what they need it. After the French and Indian War the British restricted land in the West. Colonists who had already lived there were forced to move to the East; this was known as the proclamation of 1763. In 1765, the quartering act was p |

The Truth in PhotographyIs the truth accurately represented in a photograph? In the year 2003, the Los Angeles Times journalist Brian Walski was fired after admitting to digitally editing two photographs to look like a single photograph, misleading some, which had then been printed on the front of the newspaper (Irby para. 2). If there was not some sort of connection between photography and the truth then this would not have been such a big deal. Photography is known to many people for truthfully representing the facts. It is this notion of trust that allows programs such as Adobe Photoshop to deceive people into thinking what they are seeing is real. This modern day photo manipulation makes it hard to see what really is the truth. The idea of photographic truth has received some rough treatment over the years. In the 1977 essay "In Plato's Cave," Susan Sontag (2012) described photography as producing works that are "no generic exception to the usually shady commerce between art and truth" (p. 781). Miguel Street by V.S. NaipaulV.S. Naipaul, in his book "Miguel Street" portrays a variety of characters, a variety of ideas and assumptions and an assortment of themes that reveal to the reader aspects of fictional Trinidad and the perspectives of those living that life through the eyes of the boy narrator who runs throughout the novel. The novel "Miguel Street" portrays the lives of those people with whom the narrator comes into contact with on Miguel Street. These characters, if they are to be so labeled are brought to life through the eyes of a nameless boy acting as narrator. Miguel Street I noticed one recurrent theme, is the ideal of manliness searching for identity and the struggle to define oneself. This will lead to the discovery that the definitions of masculinity and femininity prove that those characteristics apply to the opposite sex in which the women often act like men, and the men often act like women. All of this will be discussed through looking at both male and female characters in the book as |

Owning and Taking Care of a DogHow much does a pet cost? How much time and effort will I have to put into owning a pet? These are the two main questions pet owners should ask themselves when thinking about adopting a pet. Owning a pet is a privilege, but the benefits of pet ownership come with responsibilities. When owning a pet there are many steps you must make such as commitment, having a referral from friends, family, and breeder, and making sure that your pet is in good health. The first step to being a responsible pet owner is to make sure you have commitment. Commitment not only means being around your pet for a couple of hours, it means that you must make time for your pet throughout the day. Dog ownership commitment isn't something that you need to take lightly. Owning a dog is long-term, emotional, and financially difficult. Next, you must evaluate your lifestyle. You will want to get a dog that is well suited with your lifestyle. For example, if you are athletic you may not be satisfied with a dog that has low-energy levels. Also, if you are a neat type of person you may want to get a dog that doesn't |

Analysis of Agent Provocateur CampaignAgent Provocateur, a high-end, sexy lingerie brand created in 1994 by Vivienne Westwood's son, has a very different approach to the sale of lingerie and is known for extravagant, boundary-pushing campaigns. The "Always Remember" campaign with Paz de la Huerta is no different. Agent Provocateur's primary targets are upper class power women between years 20 and 45, it advertises in magazines such as Vogue, or Elle as well as in movie theaters. The spirit of the brand is to be very provocatively sexy, while keeping a sophisticated image; it is erotic without being tasteless. Agent Provocateur often uses celebrities for their different campaign such as Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue, or Paz de la Huerta. The "Always Remember" campaign appeals to needs of attention, sex and prominence, as we shall see through the analysis of three short films from the campaign. Paz de la Huerta is a notorious party girl who has, in the past, given paparazzi more than they have bargained for |

Themes in the Works of HawthorneThe themes of "The Minister's Black Veil" and "Young Goodman Brown" are similar in that they both are about sins and secrets; sins of the person, and secrets held for others. Hooper and Goodman both go through an ordeal where they need to "fight the devil". Both lose the fight and must live their lives forever changed because of it. Hooper is hiding a secret from his past; while, Goodman finds out others secrets. These two events lead Hooper to being treated differently by his congregation. They would question him often because they sense he is not telling everything about himself, he has a past that they feel they have a right to know about. The fear of not knowing, can lead people to doing terrible things. They fear what could be, wh |

Immigrants as Good CitizensHave you ever wondered what means to be a good citizen? This question brings to my mind the famous quote "Ask not what you country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" (President John F. Kennedy, 1961). In other words, it is not what you expect on your nation, authorities, or community; it is what you can make for them. There are many opinions about how a good citizen can help to his country instead what the country should do for a citizen. Being a good citizen plus being immigrant is a full of a series of characteristics which you need to fill in order to be achieved. A correct model of citizenship is who develops a consistent passion and an inexhaustible determination of citizen (President Obama, 2013). To raise this paper, I will cite two citizens who are immigrants and also citizens, in this country, Cesar E. Chavez and Robert "Bob" Menendez. In order to clarify how they contribute as a good citizen, I will emphasize in three important aspects w |

Justinian's Flea and the Roman EmpireJustinian's Flea by William Rosen describes the fall of the Roman Empire from the division of the Empire by Diocletian to the start of the rise of the Islamic powers. Rosen's book is one of many that has attempted to make sense of the time of transition between the end of the Roman Empire and what we call Medieval Europe. The Roman Empire was split up by Diocletian into east and west with Rome being the dividing line. It is from this starting point that Rosen starts to present his argument, from the split Rosen shows us the rise of the eastern roman empire and the rise of the city of Constantinople into a powerhouse in the eastern Mediterranean. At the same time Rosen describes to us the fall of the west and the rise of other powers in the western Mediterranean especially the Goths, Vandals and Huns. The rise of the East coincides with the fall of the West and the Byzantine Empire that would emerge from the city of Constantinople would become the heart of the remainder of the book. The rule of the Emperor Justinian is the central time frame in |

The Symbols of Hedda GablerSymbolism is a device used in drama and writing that exerts meaning beyond its literal sense. Henrik Ibsen uses symbolism in his work of Hedda Gabler, to attach deeper meaning to familiar objects used in the play. While there are countless objects that may be perceived beyond their literal meaning, the most symbolically relevant are the fire, manuscript, pistols, piano, as well as the glass windows. These objects all in some way develop or represent a component of Hedda's character. Through the exploration of these seemingly mundane objects, considerable significance is found which in turn allows for a stronger and further rooted perception of Ibsen's work. Fire is a strong symbolic reference that often represents power, destruction and energy. In Ibsen's play, there is repeated association with Hedda and fire. On multiple occasions, Hedda is seen sitting by the fire, stove, and speaks of burning things. Hedda's talk of Thea's hair, that she "must burn it all off" may be in |

World War I and a Changing Great Britainorld War One was part of a trend in British history. Whilst there was some continuity, there was more change that took place in the interwar years. In the years before the war, society was very much dominated by men and women tended to do more domestic jobs. Within the first month of the war this changed dramatically because 750,000 men had signed up to the armed forces due to government propaganda. This enabled women to become more independent as they were now able to attend university and enter professions such as medicine and teaching. Before the war, a small number of women were able to do this, however the war provided the catalyst needed to enable more women to enter these professions as medical care was vital if the soldiers on the Western Front were to be able to fight for the country. Subsequently, in the post-war years, The Representation of the People Act gave women the right to vote provided that they were of the age of 30 and they were married to a householder. This trend continued in 1928 when women were given |

Determining Our Own RealityMy high school biology teacher once told me, "Your source is always suspect." He explained to me just because a source claims to know the answer or be the truth and has a lot of evidence to back it up does not always mean they are correct. Everyone will always have a different version of reality because we are all completely different beings experiencing everything around us differently. As much as we try to come up with our own version of reality that will never happen because society is constantly influencing our beliefs since grade school, by our parents and all the mass media surrounding us. I believe that there is no true version of reality but several versions of reality. The reality taught to us by our parents cannot be trusted because a lot of their reality is based on old traditions. When reading that sentence a lot things come to mind, what is an old tradition? Another way to look at it is an old habit. Like that saying says, "Old habits die hard." Our p |

Nation States and the Culture of CapitalismChina's rise as the "world's workshop" has drawn to it scholarly interest in the scope of global capitalism. The continuous accumulation of capital from the West to Korea, Japan, Taiwan and then to China has led to rapid industrialization in these regions, which has also left the countries susceptible to crisis. China's further integration into the neoliberal economy of the world has caused more pronounced structural imbalance and inequality of class. This paper focuses on converting the Chinese working class into a dormitory labor regime. Providing workers with employer-owned dormitories is fundamental to the accumulation of capital in urban China (Pun and Chan 179). In order for capitalism to develop, there has to be a setting of non-capitalist social organization. This is because it creates favorable conditions and eliminates all kinds of possible barriers to its expansion (Pun and Chan 180). In the early 1990s, most of the socialist economies we |

Porter's Diamond and Internal BusinessAccording to the theory of Internal Business, for the purpose of external environment research numerous models are there which are found to be very effective. However, the analytical theory regarding the study of external environment is positive for some of the particular countries. This technique is adapted by those companies who aspire to internationalize or globalize their markets. In addition to this, it is very useful because, the concept illustrates the perfect locations in a foreign country with regard to the institutional suitability along with cultural aptness and prospective chances of accomplishment. Incisive knowledge of location selection is also an astute part which lies within this idea and various top organizations have chosen this concept as of now. Likewise, one of the most accepted concept which was structured by Michael porter in the year of 1990 and known as Diamond Model. Death Penalty - An Eye for an Eye"An eye for an eye" is something that many people do believe in, but will likewise allege that they do not trust in the death penalty, or as some people call it capital punishment. I for one do believe in the death penalty. It has been in existence for centuries throughout the world. People think that it is morally wrong, leads against the Constitution, and many other reasons why it should not be practiced today. I will talk over these things along with the history of capital punishment in the United States. When European colonists came to the new world, they instituted the practice of capital punishment. The first recorded performance in the new settlements was that of Captain George Kendall in the Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608. Kendall was put to death for being a spy for Spain. In 1612, Virginia Governor Sir Thomas Dale enacted the Divine, Moral and Martial Laws, which provided the death punishment for even minor crimes such as stealing grapes, killing chickens, a |

The Use and Abuse of DrugsWhen the subject of drug use is addressed, most individuals think about the abuse of narcotics - yet the topic of drug use spans a whole plethora of different categories, including legal and illegal consumption of substances. History has shown that drug use has been a prominent part of human culture for thousands of years, so it is of a great deal of importance that this topic is studied. As time has gone on and humans have evolved, so have the substances used, especially during the past century, within which technology and the ability to produce different drugs has ameliorated greatly. This change has shown us many different trends of drug use throughout the past few decades, from the fluctuating popularity of illegal marijuana use to the use of controlled substances like alcohol or tobacco. The Civil Rights Movement - Rebellions and RevoltsThe Civil Rights Movement was characterized by mass revolts and rebellions allowing the movement to eventually succeed. One significant event that saw a shift in the movement from mass rebellions to revolts occurred in 1962 which was documented in Robert Williams' book "Negroes with Guns"." Williams portrayed the brutality and hate the blacks had to face from the white community. Furthermore, he exemplified that the white community along with the police used violence in order to condemn any peaceful protests the blacks attempted. Therefore, Williams believed that the blacks should pick up arms for self-protection against the brutality of the white community. Robert Williams and the rest of the people in Monroe in the late 1950s looked to better the conditions for the black community in Monroe. Williams had become the leader of the local chapter of the NAACP and along with the rest of the community worked to improve living conditions for the colored people in Monroe. In one such inciden |

Themes of Night by Elie WieselThe book, "Night," by Elie Wiesel, has themes that people can relate to and can teach readers many things. Not only can the book teach people about the holocaust and the German Nazis, the book can also teach them about life lessons like struggling in life, the importance of family, etc. Three main themes that the book talks about is man's inhumanity toward others, the importance of father and son relationship, and Elie's struggle to maintain faith. One prevalent theme in Night is man's inhumanity towards others. The first example of inhumanity in the novel is when Moshe the Beadle witnesses horrible atrocities when he and the other foreign Jews were expelled from the town, Sighet. The soldiers forced the Jews to dig their own graves, and they were shot and killed. Miraculously, Moshe was able to escape, so he returned to Sighet to warn the others. Moshe explains, "Babies were thrown into the air, and the machine gunners used them as targets"" (Wiesel 4). Wiesel probably included this event in his novel to create a vivid image for the readers to fu |

The Haymarket Riot of 1886In 1886 in the windy city of Chicago an important event occurred in the history of the United States called the Haymarket Riot. During this time the Knights of Labor were very popular and maintained a respectable status. After the riot the Knights of Labor were held liable for the occurrence and eight of the leaders were convicted for being part of the Haymarket Square Riot. After the Knights of Labor reputation was lost, the American Federation of Labor gained popularity and soon became the most dominate labor union in America. American workers have been protesting as early as the 1760's for better working conditions. Workers were not considered to have rights or protection. Immigrants made up a significant percentage of the workers during this time and they came to America for a job to provide for their families. Most of the immigrants were not skilled workers who would work for cheap wages and long hours. Skilled labor workers were favored more than the unskilled workers during the |

The HighScope Curriculum ModelIntroduction Early childhood education is based off of many different theorists, theories, developments, stages, and curriculums to help reach the needs and interests of each individual child learning today. There are many important theorists now and then that have developed theories: constructivists, behaviorists, or maturationists and curriculums to help support and drive instruction today. Jean Piaget's work is a natural predecessor to project approach, emergent curriculum, differentiated instruction, and multiple intelligences (Mooney, 2013). One thing he says are is that children are "little scientists" and develop their own intelligence (Morrison, 2013). Children learn today through developmentally appropriate practice, exploring real-life experiences, and based off of their own interests. One theorist, Jean Piaget, has four stages of cognitive development and has established a HighScope Curriculum Model in? which will help educators understand how children develop and |

My Personal JourneyWe are all brought at one point here to make sense of our individual legend. Making sense of our individual legend however is not simple. Our individual legend is about figuring who we are and what we are intended to be, for example, the book "The Alchemist." The kid named Santiago needed to accomplish more and see a greater amount of the world. He would not like to be some cleric like his dad he needed to be a shepherd and travel. He went over a fantasy that let him know to go get his fortune yet his adventure would not be simple. There would be a great deal of hindrances he would need to face. He needed to surrender a considerable measure to make sense of his individual adventure. The same it will be with every one of us we must experience snags in our lives so as to figure our own particular individual legend. The adventure won't be simple. We will need to surrender things we would prefer not to relinquish and make tremendous presents. I would need to do what makes me upbeat regardl |

Children and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderChildren with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), is a subject very close to my heart. My son has been formally diagnosed with this condition and has become the inspiration for this paper. These children have difficulty with schoolwork, chronic academic failure leading to demoralization, and an eventual lack of confidence which can lead to major depression issues. Due to high levels of misdiagnosis and the apprehension by most parents to immediately medicate their children, Medical Professionals have come up with a list of five things to consider when making the determination to use medications as part of a therapy program to manage symptoms of ADHD. These five things include: 1. Starting with an evaluation by a trusted professional to obtain an accurate diagnosis. 2. Deciding whether behavioral interventions will suffice? Determining if medications will decrease danger when it comes to a child unintentionally putting themselves in harm's way, and will it benefit the student/child academically, socially, etc.? 3. Always get accurate information regarding side effects to medications. 4. Don't rush to a dec |
