Biography of Jimi HendrixJames Marshall "Jimi" Hendri is arguably the most influential and inventive electric guitarist in the history of rock music. Without Jimi Hendrix, rock music would still be in it's rudimentary phase. His innovation advanced the rock music to a higher level in just a few short years. Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle on November 27th, 1942 to a 17 year old mother and a US Army father. When Hendix was 9 years old, his parents divorced and his father was given custody. "My dad was very, very strict and taught me that I must respect my elders always. I couldn't speak unless I was spoken to first by grown-ups. So I've always been very quiet. But I saw a lot of things. A fish wouldn't get into trouble if he kept his mouth shut" (Connolly) Hendrix said in an 1967 interview. Hendrix's first instrument was a single string ukulele he found amid garbage he was removing from a woman's home on a side job with his father. Learning by ear, he played single notes to the tune of Elvis Presley songs. When Hendix was |

My Life in the TrenchesMy Dear Katherine, I have not written to you in a long time, but I have been thinking of you every single day. Since last I wrote to you, I had a fractured arm- which is completely healed. We have just come out of the trenches after being in for six days and up to our waists in water. The war is going to last some time and might be another twelve months before it is over. The war has only just begun and its going to be a war of exhaustion. Hopefully more lads are being trained back at home, we certainly need more help out on the field. Our men our dying fast. The conditions out here are still extremely bad although they seem to be normal for us. Getting up everyday not knowing what may happen, death may be around the corner for all we know. That is my biggest fear, the fear |

Are Armed Officers the Solution? In this day and age as a society we face a lot of criminal behavior and activity. It's scary to think that even in our schools today; parents, family members, society as a whole has to contemplate whether or not their child will be safe in a learning environment. Schools should be the safest place for kids to go and develop their learning abilities. However, the feeling of protection has become more of a concern then how well the kids are learning, ever since the Sandy Hook incident. Where twenty six people in an elementary school were murdered, twenty of the victims were kids and the other six were faculty. Since the Sandy Hook shooting; it is said in the article "Does American Really Need More Cops in Schools" "The Obama administration wants stiffer gun control, and $150 million to help schools hire up to 1,000 more on-campus police or counselors, or purchase security technology. State legislators are considering shifting millions of dollars around to help schools hire |

Poe and the Importance of the Crime SceneEdgar Allan Poe was known to the world for his horrific, jaw dropping short stories and poems and also for being a literary genius of his time due to the unfamiliar writing style he presented. Though well known for works such as: Annabel Lee, The Raven, The Tell Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado, Poe is also recognized as being the creator of Gothic writing. Poe's Gothic writing style primarily focused around the themes of death and mourning which lands him a place in the dark romanticism genre. His extreme writing style separates him from other writers as his dark tone creates him a space in a genre of his own. Poe has played a major impact in literature and television as we know it today by being the founder of the detective fiction genre, his unique use of irony and symbolism, implementing satire and bestowing hoaxes, which led to literature and the lifestyle we know today. Currently there are many crime shows on television ranging from shows such as: CSI, Law & Order, The Me |

The Importance of BreakfastTo figure out how to solve my problem of not being able to pay attention to my professors, I first had to research if what I hypothesized as the problem, not eating breakfast, was the actual problem. I started my research by going to Galileo. From there, I searched, "breakfast effects academics". After browsing through the search results, I found an article from a trusted site, livestrong.com. After reading the article, I found out that students who eat breakfast have better concentration during school hours than kids who skip the morning meal. According to a study published in the August 2013 edition of "Frontiers in Human Neuroscience", eating breakfast daily improves your mental performance and math scores. According to pediatrician Dr. William Sears, children who eat breakfast also participate more in class discussions, are better able to handle complex problems in class, and get better grades. After confirming my hypothesis of what was causing the problem, I began to research solutions to my problem. In the same article from Livestrong, it states that a balance of protein and complex carbohydrates for breakfast in |

Marketing the Moon by Scott and JurekIn the book, "Marketing the Moon," by David Scott and Richard Jurek there were various ways that NASA marketed themselves, as well as the astronauts are discussed. Many companies used the theme of space and astronauts to appeal to their audience. This paper is only focusing on one commercial company ad and also an ad dealing with the NASA Company affiliated with various parts producing companies. Each ad uses some of the three rhetorical strategies to portray the message of either, buy this companies stuff or to make efficient safe parts used for NASA spacecrafts. Figure 1(46), shows the commercial ad to sell Tang. Tang is a fruit flavored powder mix that you mix with water. Notice the quote, "Life Support System of an Apollo Astronaut", and their space suits, boots, and of course space packaged Tang. Yeats and Poems on Growing OldCan you define love? Love is "an intense feeling or deep affection" or as "a person or thing that one loves." Love can be described in many different ways and also written in different ways depending on the writer thoughts or feelings. In poetry, love is the theme of a poem, which is a common use of a device for all poetry. This method allows us a sense of the speaker perception while writing these poems. In the poems "When You Are Old" and "The Song of the Old Mother" by William Butler Yeats, Yeats uses love differently by showing it from a man's view and a mother's view. One poem discusses the love for his beloved who didn't show her love back to him. The other discusses the love for her children who were unappreciative by her efforts and work. Both poems though describe love as unconditional and passed up. The speaker of "When You Are Old" reflects upon his unconditional love for a woman who was not ready for a serious relationship. |

The Dangers of GoogleThe world we live in is not the same one our parents or grandparents grew up in. Technology has advanced at an astonishingly rapid rate. My own generation has grown up with the technology, and we have always had it. Personally, I cannot imagine not having access to a cell phone and a computer-or quick access to information. Need directions to go someplace? Use your cell phone. Need a recipe for dinner? Google it. Indeed, even the brand name, Google, has become a verb. The Internet is everywhere. It's on our desks. It's in our cars. It's in the palm of our hands. Most recently, Google Glass has put it on our heads-and Apple has put it on our wrist. Is it changing the way we think though? Is the Internet making us stupid? Personally, I think it all depends on how each one of chooses to utilize it. The Internet is like any other amazing technology. If used properly, it is highly effective. It can also potentially harm you. Consider cars and how they have changed people's lives. They can a |

Interpreting the Book RevelationIn this essay I will be explaining why the book of Revelation was written, and who it was written to, I will be discussing how Revelation can be interpreted. I will also be attempting to explain the four most common view points concerning its interpretation. These views are the Idealist Interpretation, Preterist (Past) Interpretation, the Historic Interpretation, and finally the Futuristic Interpretation. One day in about the year 95 A.D., a man named John had a vision from heaven. The book of Revelation is John's written record of that vision. John was said to be a Christian leader from a Jewish background who was exiled to the Roman prison island of Patmos. The book of Revelation has also been called The Revelation of John, or The Revelation of St. John the Divine. Revelation is an example of "apocalyptic" writing". The style of "apocalyptic writing" delivers a message using symbols, images and numbers. Some of the symbols and images in the book of Revelation compare |

Technology and Modern CommunicationTechnology has changed society. There is no denying that we live in an instant gratification world that is driven by the latest advancement in technology and devices. With the Internet, social networks, and cell phones the way people communicate has changed drastically. We would rather email than meet, and instead of talking on the phone we would rather text. Although technology has advanced the access of information and communication, our society has grown more impersonal by communicating using technologies; therefore our culture is losing the ability to socialize face to face. Technology has changed the way we connect to the world and dating is no exception. Think of how your parents met; mine met through a mutual friend who had worked with both of my parents. People used to go to parties, dances, or dinners for dates or time with friends. In today's world, many people meet complete strangers through the Internet and while these sites can be successful, there are certain risks. Whi |

Dance Ensemble Critique PaperOn October 25, 2013, I attended the UT Dallas Dance Ensemble's Contemporary Dance show at the University Theatre. The work that I found unique was the dance "Two" performed/ choreographed by Courtney Mulcahy. "Two" was a dance that was somewhat dark in nature. The performer used a bench during the dance that she stood upon to make different positions every time the light flickered. The music that complemented the dance wasn't exactly music either. It was more like sounds of different things in nature put together to create music. The work, "Two", performed by Courtney Mulcahy, revealed a psychological disorder through the use of a dark nature, such as a dark lighting, dark music, and a dark costume. The creator of this work, Courtney Mulcahy, tried to reveal a psychological disorder, possibly schizophrenia, through the moves of her dance. The expressions on her face during the dance showed fear in her eyes. It was almost as if the audience was taking a l |

Ideologies of Human RightsHuman rights are regarded as rights that are automatically given to any one person solely on the fact that they are human, regardless of that person's social class, ethnicity, age or gender. Every person on Earth is entitled to them. These rights include, the rights to food, housing, health and education. Even though these rights seem necessary to live a fulfilling life, most are not guaranteed. There are international laws that protect these rights like the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural rights (ICESCR), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and agreements from the International Labour Organization (ILO). Although these laws are meant to ensure human rights are being obeyed, there are still countless violations that occur. In order for these policies to be enforced, strong communi |

Vanishing of the BeesIntroduction In the documentary film "Vanishing of the Bees," it explores the reason why we have lost bees and the effects of what could happen if we lost bees. This film gives us insight on how important our bee populations is. In a way we tend to forget about the important things, like bees. We don't purposely forget, but between family life, jobs, bills, and all the other day to day activities, it gets easy to not think about the bees and how much they impact our existence. If the bees really were to disappear we would literally be sent back to the Stone Age. Maybe not in a technological way but in an agricultural way. We would live off of rice, corn and wheat, and that's it. Our food source is vital and the bees are our only way of us keeping our food. How much do we rely on the bees? Think about it this way, 30% of our food crops are directly reliant on bees. This is just crops, this isn't taking in account the reliance of bees pollinating food in other types of environ |
