Experiment - Genetically Modified FoodsIntroduction Genetically modification involves processes that allow scientist to create new plants and animals by taking a certain gene from plants or animals and inserting it into the cells of a new plant or animal(3). Genetically modified organisms (GMOs), the name of the newly created organism, have a great controversy about it. Most consumers are not even aware that they are buying genetically modified food or do they know what this process even means. Detection of the difference between normal food and food containing GMOs can be done through a method called polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which can synthesize million of copies of a specific DNA sequence in a simple reaction with the proper primers(2). The ability to amplify these DNA sequence allows scientists to further analyze these DNA sequence using gel-electrophoresis. By measuring the length of base pairs, foods can be distinguished from conventional food or GM food. PCR has been found to be appropriate for the analysis |

Project Based Learning - A Better ChoiceAbstract There are many different teaching methods for elementary schools and Project Based Learning will teach more social and emotional skills than the standard curriculum in elementary age children. Many case studies have been conducted to determine whether standard teaching or Project Based Learning has long lasting effects and why. Teaching has to evolve just like technology, this allows for students be more independent and prepare for the real world. Project Based Learning - A Better Choice In one elementary school classroom a teacher is using building blocks as a math lesson with all the students around on the floor. The students each have a separate block with a number from 1 to 10. As a group the students have to stack the blocks in order. The teacher sits back and watches the students as they have to work together to put the blocks in order. While in an adjacent classroom another teacher is using a math book to teach her students to count 1 to 10. The teacher says the num |

Remembering My Grandfather and the Sale BarnIt was warm and sunny afternoon in the month of July. My grandpa loaded me up in his beat up Chevrolet. I asked grandpa where we were headed to. He told me that I would find out soon enough. I sat with my chin propped up on the edge of the dashboard. I was like a little puppy waiting in anticipation for my owner to give me a rawhide bone. After a thirty minute drive, I was about ready to burst at the seam due to pure curiosity. Suddenly, I felt my grandpa's truck jerk to a stop. He placed his hand upon my shoulder and turned toward me. "We're here", he said. As those words hit my ear, a wave of relief washed over me. I was finally able to see this mystery place that grandpa had taken me. I poked my head out of the window and realized we were at the sale barn. That was the day I realized that the sale barn was the most amazing place I had ever seen in my entire life. As we stepped out of the truck, a distinct smell filled my nostrils all at once. It was smell like no other. |

Legislation of The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002After the controversial scandals of organizations such as Enron, WorldCom, and Tyco, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act became law and procedure on July 30, 2002. The main aspects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act policies and regulations were designed to prevent and deter future accounting fraud, protection for shareholders and maximizing assurance in public company financial reporting in diverse U.S. capital markets. Altogether, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 has imposed tremendous new duties and cost on public companies and accounting firms, while the people involved are still unaware about whether the money, time and focus on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 are worth the benefits that were sacrificed. It would be difficult to eliminate fraud within organizations just by policies and procedure, so owners of organizations will have to encourage SOX by expressing it to the workers, and owners themselves will have to be disciplined enough to gain the trust of workers. Full Summary - Lord of the FliesSummary Ralph hides in the jungle and thinks miserably about the chaos that has overrun the island. He thinks about the deaths of Simon and Piggy and realizes that all vestiges of civilization have been stripped from the island. He stumbles across the sow's head, the "Lord of the Flies," now merely a gleaming white skull-as white as the conch shell, he notes. Angry and disgusted, Ralph knocks the skull to the ground and takes the stake it was impaled on to use as a weapon against Jack. That night, Ralph sneaks down to the camp at the Castle Rock and finds Sam and Eric guarding the entrance. The twins give him food but refuse to join him. They tell him that Jack plans to send the entire tribe after him the next day. Ralph hides in a thicket and falls asleep. In the morning, he hears Jack talking and torturing one of the twins to find out where Ralph is hiding. Several boys try to break into the thicket by rolling a boulder, but the thicket is too dense. A group of boys tries to fight th |

Comedian Rob Brydon - Building Rapport with His AudienceRob Brydon, a renowned Welsh Comedian has starred in many recitals and shows including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and his own live performances: "women's mobile phones". He has also hosted his own programme where he interviewed David Walliams. This essay will show the various techniques in his live show in 2009 set in Norwich called "Man in a Box" as well as his interview with David Walliams. In both these shows his attire is smart and casual, for example a suit with an open shirt making it very informal. Since he wears no blazer in his "Man in a Box" concert it means that the audience are able to relate to him more as they feel that they too can be comfortable and relaxed. Rob Brydon creates rapport with the audience in his "Man in a Box" comedy show in 2009 by being humorous and entertaining those who have paid to see it, as well as those who are watching it at home. The staging is important in creating rapport because it is an open stage wit |

Cam Newton - Heisman WinnerTo be a Heisman candidate, you must show athletic skill, leadership, and sportsmanship. Cam Newton, a former Auburn football player, is an excellent example of a Heisman winner. He won the trophy in 2010; he is the third Auburn player to win the trophy along with Pat Sullivan and Bo Jackson. He is known to be a great team leader. He was there to support his team when things seemed like they were destined to fail. He led the team in pep talks and was always full of energy on the sidelines. When the team was down he made sure they stayed positive. His ability to keep his focus and poise was incredible. Cam Newton's skill was shown in every game he played. He is mostly known for his ability to scramble outside the pocket and make key plays. His ability to run the ball and his arm strength are what make him a dual threat quarterback. Analysis of Ethical DilemmasAnalyzing Ethical Dilemmas Moral dilemmas are posed to each individual on a continuous basis throughout life. Some moral dilemmas may seem trivial while others could mean life or death. In this research paper two dilemmas: The Lifeboat and Nieces and Daughters will be examined that would be considered life or death situations. The moral dilemmas will be explained in each situation and a decision will be made on how to handle each one. The process on how one should handle each decision process in the situations will be examined using ethical frameworks and ethical theories, mainly egoism and hedonism. According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, "Ethical egoism is the normative ethical position that moral agents ought to do what is their own self interest and ethical hedonism is the normative ethical position to use happiness as the sole criterion for determining the moral rightness and wrongness of an action." Both ethical egoism and hedonism are similar in the |

Communication On The GridironMy revised informative essay has come out to be a complete different paper than my original final draft. Reading over my old essay, and comparing it with the rubric provided gave me an understanding of what I had done wrong. My paper had lacked primary research. With only one interview with a football player, I had only referred to a primary source once and used secondary sources throughout the rest of the paper. The lack of primary research failed to meet the assignment expectations. Furthermore, I had written a disorganized series of body paragraph which didn't transition smoothly. I included a history of communication in football as the first paragraph, which seemed to go too much into detail and became irrelevant to the thesis. I also had trouble organizing the information into appropriate sections, and ended up writing too much about minor aspects of communication. After reading the instructors comments, and comparing my paper with the rubric, I broke the paper up into the diff |

Merit Pay for American TeachersIntroduction Normally, teachers are paid on a scale that takes into account years on the job and degrees earned. However, a growing movement known as "merit pay" has some school districts brainstorming another significant factor into the teacher pay equation: teacher effectiveness. As merit pay has taken shape in several states across the country, it is one of the bitterest controversies in education today (Noll, 2014). Merit pay is a salary schedule for teachers based on teacher effectiveness and not tenure (Noll, 2014). Teacher's effectiveness is measured by student growth or achievement. If the student experiences growth, the teacher is deemed proficient or highly effective. As an incentive, the teacher is rewarded for the student's academic growth. On the other hand, the teacher is deemed ineffective if the student does not experience academic growth. Most states measure student growth with standardized test. Based on merit pay, an ineffective teacher will not receive an incentive |

Forced and Underage MarriagesUnderage marriage is a serious issue addressing most underdeveloped countries. It has been and still is a main problem faced by young girls in our own country. It plagues most of the far-flung rural areas of Pakistan, and although steps are being taken to finish off this atrocity, to believe that it has been removed from society completely is to delude yourself in an awful way. Underage marriage has become a way of survival for economically undeveloped families all across the country, as it has been for decades now. The philosophy of the need for child marriage is, by our standards, outdated and fundamentally wrong, but try explaining that to a family with seven children and depleting funds. It has become an endless cycle: parents marry off their child, usually a female, by the time she is "of age" which in rural areas is around ten, maximum twelve years. Poor thing, she has no choice in the matte |

The Five Eras of MarketingWhat is Marketing? Marketing is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers, for the purpose of selling that product or service. What is the Marketing Evolutionary Process? This may be perceived as the stages a market passes through during the life cycle of a product, notably emergence, growth, maturity and decline. It involves the changes that occur in the basic demand of a product and the changes in technology involved. Whether we are referring to the door-to door salesman or the engaging advertising that attracts a potential customer, all these encompass marketing. Marketing aims at closely matching consumer needs with available products and services. Marketing is a rather long process that starts way before the product finds its way to the shelves. Ranging from the product's origin to its point of sale, there are a number of stages of marketing evolution involved that comprise several behaviors geared |

Claiming Ownership of JerusalemChristians, Muslims and Jews have been fighting over the city of Jerusalem for centuries due to its significance to each of these religions. Jerusalem is populated by 15,476 Christians, 278,568 Muslims, and 479,756 Jews which leads to the question of which religion it belongs to (Jerusalem's Population). Jerusalem should be in the possession of whichever religion has the strongest ties to it. Today the Christian population of Jerusalem is 15,476, which is two percent of the city's population (Jerusalem's Population). Although this is a relatively small percentage, it does not reflect the significance of Jerusalem in Christianity. The Christians are drawn to Jerusalem because it is where their religion started and where their leader was crucified. Jerusalem became the birthplace of early Christianity in the fist century CE. According to the New Testament, it is the location of the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus (History of Jerusalem). The Byzantine Emperor, Constantine |

Poverty, the Welfare System and the First Nation's ChildrenIn Canada, as in most countries, incidents of child neglect are more common in areas of extreme poverty (Public Health Agency of Canada ⌠PHAC⌡, 2009). This does not necessarily mean that the parents of these children directly neglect them, but instead, as their guardians, however loving, they lack the resources required to offer proper care (PHAC, 2009). Most literature (Blackstock, 2005: Trocme', Knoke, & Blackstock, 2004: Pelton, 1997) explains that the overrepresentation of First Nations children in the welfare system is as a result of neglect. In 2009, 8,960 children were in agency care in BC; 4,713 of these were First Nations children as opposed to 4,247 non-First Nations children (Advocacy BC, 2009). "Generally, child neglect means the failure of a parent or a caretaker responsible for the child's care to provide minimally adequate food, clothing, shelter, supervision, and/or medical care for the child" (PHAC, 2009, p. 8). A person is considered poor if the means ar |

King Solomon's Mines by Sir Henry Rider HaggardHenry Rider Haggard was a British writer and traveller who dedicated one of his first novels, "King Solomon's Mines," to "all the big and little boys who read it" (n.p.). Full of masculine characters experiencing epic adventures and big game hunting, the novel soon reached the intended target audience. In England alone King Solomon's Mines sold 31,000 copies during the first year and established Haggard as a writer of the adventure fiction genre (Butts 7). The aim of this thesis is to prove that despite the fact that the stories of the adventure fiction genre usually focus on the male characters and their power1, the female characters in Haggard's novels turn out to be the very opposite of passive. They are a threat to the masculinity of the male characters by showing their power, beauty, or cruelty. I argue that the stories do not follow the pattern of male penetrating and gaining dominance over a passive female, which was a common pattern typical of Haggard's era. At th |

Mise-en-scene and The Wizard of OzMise-en-scene is a French word meaning "putting into the scene." It refers to the way a director arranges the visual components in the frame of the shot. The main elements of mise-en-scene are the sets, costumes, lighting, color and actor's performance. The chief members responsible for the manipulation of objects in the shot are the director, cinematographer and production designer. One aspect of mise-en-scene which signified a change in time during the beginning of the 1939 masterpiece, "The Wizard of Oz," is noted in the first 1/2 hour of the film when everything is filmed in black and white, colored in a unique sepia tone process. The opening and closing credits, as well as the Kansas sequences, were designed to distinguish the extreme differences between Kansas and Oz. Every scene which takes place in Kansas was filmed in black and white. The grass i |

Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred OwenThe poem, "Dulce Et Decorum Est," by English poet Wilfred Owen, conveys various key ideas relating to war and its consequences. These concepts have been expressed through the utilisation of textual detail and a variety of poetic and language techniques. It gives the responder a highly realistic portrait of the true horror of war. The poem is generally about British soldiers in World War One being attacked by chemical weapons (gas) and the result of the gas on a man unable to protect himself. Its main message is that war does not bring one honour, but instead, it brings the harsh reality of death and terrible memories. This poem conveys to the reader that war is a misconception and incorrectly represented. In addition, it also demonstrates how desperate the soldiers were in conflict. Finally, it explores how the reality of war is not regularly communicated and differs from its facade. This essay intends to demonstrate these key ideas by highlighting and analysing samples from the t |

Glossary of Important Historical Leaders1. Gorbachev Mikhail Gorbachev was an important figure in history because of his willingness to end the Cold War and Communism as it was known in the 1980s. The most famous line ever uttered by President Ronald Reagan was "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall!" Mikhail Gorbachev was the last General Secretary of the Soviet Union. He brought about massive economic, social, and political changes and helped bring an end to both the Soviet Union and the Cold War. One of Gorbachev's notable accomplishments was the breaking down of the Berlin Wall, a symbolic division between communism and freedom for the Soviet Union. After signing to destroy the wall, Gorbachev successfully restored peace into Russia. In my opinion, this was truly the "end of history." After the tearing down of Russia, Europe as not broken out into war, thus making Gorbachev a key factor in European History. 2.
