The novel, written and published in the early 1920s, gives readers a descriptive look into what it was like to be an east coast American during the Roaring Twenties. At the end of the speech, Clinton as he had done throughout his campaign stated that he "Still believed in a place called home". HIV, Reverse and Transcriptase InhibitorsAbstract This experiment compares the effectiveness of reverse transcriptase inhibitors and protease inhibitors. A total number of 150 HIV-1/HIV-2 patients will be examined. The processes of examination will be done through laboratory test procedures. Each patient will begin taking medications administered to them starting from January 1st and their blood will be drawn for lab testing on the first of every month for a period of one year. At the end of the year, I am expecting to see notable changes in all of the participants' health. However, this experiment focuses more on the effectiveness of how best these inhibitors work. Introduction Over a quarter century ago, doctors and scientists in the western hemisphere first learned about a deadly virus called Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Initially, it seemed like HIV affected mostly gay homosexual males until it was seen otherwise. The symptoms of this disease were not static, meaning that there were several symptoms that resembl |

Arthur Miller, The Crucible and the McCarthy TrialsArthur Miller draws some close attention to comparing the actions of the United States government during the McCarthy Trials and the actions of man during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 in "Why I Wrote the Crucible." By observing the practices of witchcraft in "The Crucible," by Arthur Miller, one can examine that his prime intention was to write a novel of historical fiction, which is substantial because many people dispute on the reason he wrote the novel to gather awareness to the Government's buried intentions during the Red Scare, Communism, and treason. During the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and the Red Scare of the 1950's, communities held hearings where members of the communities accused other people of violating social morals and ethics. Both movements directed individuals on the base of testimony provided by their associates. The Salem Witch Trials inspected rights made by citizens in the Massachusetts communities, in which some were young girls. These girls triggered madness in their communities by claiming that certain individuals were engaged in the practice of witchcraft. Testimony that fired the Red Scare was provided |

Psychology Debate: I Am SamSam is developmentally disabled as he is an autistic individual and his mental capacity is that of a seven year old, whereas his daughter, Lucy is a normal child and progressively develops according to her age. As Lucy nears her seventh birthday, her development surpasses that of her father. Lucy's teacher is worried and displays her concern regarding Lucy to Sam as she states, Lucy's developmental progress is being hindered as a result of Sam's disability. According to the teacher, Lucy is observed holding herself back and unable to achieve her full potential due to her father's autistic nature. The impact of Sam's disability on Lucy is often witnessed. For instance, when Lucy read a new book to Sam and she came across the word "difficult" which Sam was unable to read, she hesitated to read it and eventually said, she does not know what the word is. There are two things wrong with that; a. She was lying and b. Because of the morals she has, she was obstructing her own development. A |

Redefining Middle AgeRedefining Middle Age As of 2009, the average life expectancy at birth for U.S. women has risen to 80.6 years; at birth for men, it is 75.7 years (Minino, Xu, & Kochanek, 2010). If a man is already age 65, his life expectancy is 82, and for a woman who is already age 65, it is 85 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 2011d). In 1900 white Americans could expect to live, on average, only to age 47; on average, nonwhites lied to age 33 (Minino, Xu, & Kochanek, 2010). By middle age, women begin to outlive men, a trend that continues through the rest of the life course. And by midlife, various health factors shorten the life expectancy for black men and women (Minino, Xu, Kochanek, 2010). Although the middle of life falls statistically around age 39, we typically consider middle age as extending much later. Indeed, most of us are unsure about which years of life are the middle years. Does middle age begin at 40, 45, or 50? And does middle age end at 60, 65, or 70? The boundaries of midlife have beco |

The Repercussions of Using Wind EnergyImagine all around your house on a sunny day, a shadow sprints by every window at once, slightly less than one second apart. As a blade from a wind turbine spins, its shadow can be followed on along the ground until it breezes over a house. This is called 'shadow flickering' and wind companies have called this a small price to pay for the use of a free resource. This has now been traced to headaches, especially in small children (Gray, 2011). Despite this, there are many environmentalists who will agree that wind power is by far the most progressive, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to obtain renewable energy. They usually do not have all of the facts, which is what leads them to make that conclusion. Wind farms, despite harnessing a renewable resource, have many flaws, few of which have been worked out since the development of the industrial wind turbine in 1941. The expansion of wind energy should slow and ultimately be stopped due dangers to flying animals, increasi |

Technology and CyberbullyingPeer to peer bullying is nothing new. It has been going on for generation after generation, however, the times have now changed since new technology has made it possible for peers to bully one another without even having to be face to face. Cyber bullying is a national disaster and it is also a huge topic that a lot of times is not taken seriously until something bad happens. It is a newer type of bullying, and people are trying to figure out what can be done. Cyber bullying has serious effects but is starting to be addressed and can be prevented in some ways. Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person and this problem normally goes towards young people. Sometimes cyberbullying can be easy to spot, for example, if your child shows you a text, tweet, or response to a status update on Facebook that is harsh, mean, or cruel. Movie Summary: About a Boy"About a Boy" is a movie where several emotional changes take place. This is a movie that has much to do with how things don't necessarily have to be the way we perceive them. According to the way in which Will starts talking at the beginning of the movie, he perceives himself as an island. He thinks that everything revolves around him. As far as we note, Will is a womanizer, selfish and superficial man who just thinks about himself. Marcus, on the other hand, is a boy who struggles with growing up. Marcus is a boy who lacks parental care, so he's trying to find his own identity and social acceptance. Moreover, Marcus is frequently bullied at school, and he faces many difficulties at home. These home issues have to do with his depressive mother, who during several occasions attempts to commit suicide. He believes that things are the way they are, and therefore there's nothing that he can do. So, I want to focus on the way these characters grow. Throughout the story certain se |

My Autobiography"There is no nation so powerful, as the one that obeys its laws not from principle of fear or reason, but from passion. " (Martin Luther King Jr.) People do not generally fear a certain subject. They are afraid of fear itself. But life lessons and learning opportunities are formed to wash away fear from us, replenishing us with a new perspective at life. I am a dedicated person who values taking every chance they get, listening and learning from other's battles, and taking things from a religious point of view. Although these have not always been with me, these basic guidelines shape me into the young women I am today, and further my life for the better. I formed my principles according to some life altering experiences. Listening to other's tragedies has made me rethink my life choices dramatically. Listening more has shaped me as both a person and a citizen. Furthermore, the air was foggy, and the crust within my eyes started to fall. It was 5 AM in Seattle when people started to fo |

Invention of the TelephoneDuring the early 19th century, it was difficult to communicate long distance. There was a device called the telegraph that would allow long distance communication, but at times it would be difficult to operate if the user did not understand Morse code. In 1874, a brilliant inventor named Alexander Graham Bell introduced the idea of the telephone. Similar to the telegraph, the telephone would use electricity to allow people who are far apart to communicate. "If I could make a current of electricity vary in intensity precisely as the air varies in density during the production of sound, I should be able to transmit speech telegraphically. " (Bell). Two years later Bell would successfully transmit the message "Mr. Watson, come here; I want you ". The telephone not only revolutionized the communication industry, but it also introduced new words such as caller, dials, disconnected, hang up, telephonist, and on hold. One of the words that the telephone introduced was caller. Caller is belie |

Soul Murder and SlaverySlavery in North America not only had an undeniable impact on the African slaves beginning in the 1600s, but the more than 260 years of slavery resulted in substantial consequences for American society as a whole. Nell Irvin Painter's essay, "Soul Murder and Slavery: Toward a Fully Loaded Cost Accounting, " explores the psychological damage inflicted on African slaves and slave-owning families as a result of the institution of slavery. Painter uses the phrase "Soul Murder " to describe this irreversible damage indicated by depression, lack of self-esteem, and suppressed anger that together lead to a loss of individualism. Painter's essay outlines the "Soul Murder " of both Africans and Americans as well as other residual consequences subjected upon America because of slavery. Painter introduces the idea that a slave-owner's wife often felt victimized when her husband was interested in a slave woman. Women during this time period had very little power and sometimes even felt threatened |

Bruce Tuckman's Theory of Group DevelopmentThis essay will look at Bruce Tuckman's theory of group development and how it was applied to group work which I have completed. I will look at each stage of Tuckman's theory in detail and in some cases where criticism was found, I will include. For the purpose of this essay I will be using the example of setting up a small business as part of the leaving certificate. The aim was to set up the business, make the product and sell the product on ˜Market Day'. Bruce Tuckman first proposed the forming-storming-norming-performing model of group development in 1965. He maintained that all four stages were necessary for a team to grow. The fifth stage, adjourning or mourning, of Tuckman's theory came in 1977 jointly with Mary Ann Jenson. (Wikipedia 2011) Tuckman's theory is one of the best known team/group development theories. A small group is "a group small enough that each member is aware of and able to recall each other group member. Know who is and is not in the group, and rec |

Daugherty, an American transplant from Chicago, is operating as a private detective who has built a reputation based on discrete investigations for wealthy clients. J.D. employs his assistant, a Cherokee Native and war veteran, Hoolie Smith, to seek the missing woman through the Osage connection. Both characters split, J.D. searches for leads in Tulsa, while Hoolie visits Osage country. The most interesting character in this novel is Hoolie Smith. It is his cultural way of the Native American that gives this novel its unique story. When Hoolie visits Osage country, he doesn't speak their language. They speak in English, except when the Osages want to talk privately with each other. Furthermore, their customs and traditions are different but similar in a way across different cultures. Approaches to the Study of Foreign AffairsSince the dawn of civilization man has been raising questions over any imaginable topic. "We have no more questions left to ask; we have looked for questions in the darkest corners and on the wildest peaks. We have found all the questions that can be found. It is past time we gave up looking for questions and began looking for answers " "G. K. Chesterton. As to the study of international relations, where and how does one begin this journey for answers? Kenneth Waltz answered the first portion of the question by breaking down the perspectives into three levels of analysis: individual, national-state, and the international system. As to the latter, practitioners approach these study concentrations with many arguments: historical, philosophical, economical, anthropological, psychological, statistical, and the list goes on. The variety of techniques in which academics have at their disposal are utilized for the objective of gaining a clear and certain perception of the truth |
