Benefits of Place and Community-Based EducationPlace and community-based education is a teaching style that connects the students to their community. There are three key models in place and community-based education. The first key point is to connect the content that is being taught to the outside world. Second, everyone needs to have a voice, including the students, parents, teachers, administrators and the greater community. Third, there needs to be inclusion of the culture of the students being taught. Traditional schools do not work for everyone, and that is why community based education is important. By combining these key elements, place and community based education is able to inspire and truly reach their students. The No Child Left Behind Act makes it kind of difficult for place and community-based education to work in schools. The No Child Left Behind Act was made in 2001 to try and make sure kids did not fall through the cracks. However, No Child Left Behind did not work out the way it was intended to. Now teachers need to make sure that their students are making adequate yearly progress, only making it harder to create a curriculum that intrigues the students. If the students |

Abortion and the Value of LifeEver since the beginning of mankind, people have debated over ideologies and beliefs about certain subjects. The debate over abortion is one that has been raging on fiercely and relatively recently. For decades, people have been fighting to establish the laws that govern the rules of having an abortion. The debate over abortion has two sides. While the pro-life side of the argument emphasizes on the value of life, and the right of a baby to be born, the pro-choice argument focuses more on the right of a woman to decide for herself what to do with her baby. Both groups offer valid reasoning and feasible arguments in support of their side. Because people over the world grow up in different backgrounds with differing set of beliefs and morals, it is difficult to say definitively that one party is more correct. Two articles online, in particular, are able to illustrate the merits that are present in each side of the argument quite accurately. In CNN's Story Highlight, "Why Progressives Sho |

The Art of Baseball ScoutingBaseball is a game won in between the white lines of a diamond. The players are grown men playing a kids game for millions of dollars. On the surface fans only see throwing, catching, and hitting but much more is put into America's pastime. There's an art behind the game which has been reformed over the decades to adapt to the mid-90s fastballs and the 500 ft. home runs that disappear into the summer sky. This art doesn't involve painting or drawing but is simply the opinion of a man on another man. This art is called scouting. Baseball players are evaluated on a scale of 20-80. The 20-80 scale is set up to determine present and future potential of the player. A 20 is the minimum number a player can receive in a single category and 80 is the highest. Position players will be graded by their hitting, power, throwing, fielding, and speed. Pitchers will be graded on their velocity, movement, control, arm action, and mechanics. If a player receives an overall grade of a 66-80 he has the p |

The Impact of Divorce on ChildrenAbstract Divorce has many negative effects on the couple's children, including a weaker relationship with their parents, a negative view on future relationships, worse mental health, and increased chance of substance abuse. Both the mother–child and father–child relationships are negatively affected and the children tend to have trust issues later in life, leading to a negative view of marriage. Also, children of divorced parents tend to have significantly worse mental health and are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. It is very traumatic for a child when their parents get a divorce. There has been a lot of research showing that watching one's parents get divorced is less than ideal and can negatively affect a child's well-being (Moses, 2013). According to Amato and Keith, "When it comes to a divorce, children in single parent families are worse off due to reduced parental attention, lack of paternal role models, and reduced family income" (Vanassche et al. |

Communication - The Way to SuccessThe success of any relationship relies on the ability to properly communicate with one another. It allows us to share our interests and concerns. It takes more than one person to communicate effectively, which is why it can be tough at times. I believe that in order to be successful in whatever your goal is in life, you need to know how to communicate to get where you want to go. Communication is a very important part in my life. Proper communication skills are something I look for in a partner, my family and in my HOSA State Officer team. As I went through high school, something I loved to do was date. However, even though I did my fair share of dating I rarely found myself falling for a girl and having a girlfriend. A huge reason why I never really got attracted to anyone was because of the lack of communication skills I saw in many girls. I did realize that the girls who texted back right away as well as the girls that could ho |

Junior Service Learning ProjectDuring this Junior Service Learning Project, I have helped a lot and gain some more opportunities and skills that could help me achieve higher goals in the future that I wouldn't of been able to have before. When I first found out about this project, I didn't have any clue what to do or who to help. I asked my peers and my family for advice and what would suit me best, but after a while of searching around I came to a conclusion that who better to help than my church. I go to it every Sunday and Wednesday, so it just felt right to me. I came to my pastor in reach for help and it turns out they could use all the hands they could get. I was willing to do anything to help out the church that I loved. Over about 5 weeks, I helped out the church. I did anything and everything, I went to all the people I could to help unbox, move, build, etc. My church wasn't a ordinary church, it didn't have a permanent location. So every Sunday and Wednesday, we had to completely set up everything before s |

Britain in the Aftermath of WWIIIn 1951, Britain was a country still reeling from the chaos of the Second World War. Despite taking over men's jobs during the war, traditional values and stereotypes were reinforced by the media e.g. still portraying women as housewives. Class was still easily identifiable through clothing; bowler hats compared to flat caps and the way they spoke. However, between 1951 and 1964, Britain went from a world power centered around a class dictated society to one of reduced world status but of increased domestic affluence. Public anger began to spill out onto the streets; many reasons have been suggested for this such as immigration, organised crime and social mobility. The first migrant ship, Empire Windrush, carried 493 immigrants across from Kingston, Jamaica. A further 132,000 immigrants followed the decade after from across the New Commonwealth. The first wave of immigration was mainly young men, who flooded urban areas that were once dominated by the working class. Local government |

Personal Narrative - Moving DayWaking up this morning, one thought swept through my mind: I am moving today and my life is about to change. Will I fit in? Will they like me? My parents tell me not to worry. Mom says that I will do just fine and this change will be a good thing for me. This is a chance to start fresh and I can be whoever I want to be. I remember the day my mom told me I was moving. It was a cool, winter day. My sister and I were getting ready to go to dance. My mom and dad were sitting around the wood, kitchen table. They had a very mysterious look on their faces. I glanced at my sister. My dad was the first one to say something to us. He told us to sit down. Unsure of what was going to happen, we both scattered to the closest chair and listened intently. My mom said, "Liv, I know how you've been having a hard time in school and with everyone here."" You're mother found a beautiful house in Robbinsville, New Jersey just a half an hour away from here, less than two minutes away from Maggie Moos." Sad |

Three Dimensions of AdvertisingAccording to Dittmar (2008), there are three major dimensions of buying motives: functional, emotional-social, and identity-related. Functional motive concerns the usefulness or good value for money of consumer goods (e.g. whether a product has utilitarian value). Emotional-social motive concerns the hedonic and social benefits derived from purchasing (e.g. whether shopping is pleasurable or socially involving). Lastly, identity-related motive concerns the extent of buying goods for self-[removed]e.g. to convey uniqueness), to progress towards an ideal self (e.g. to be more like the person one dream of becoming), or to elevate social image (e.g. to experience prestige). Research has demonstrated gender differences in conventional buying. For example, Dittmar and Drury (2000) illustrated how shopping and self were more psychologically connected for women than for men. Campbell (2000, as cited in Dittmar, 2008) also reported that women responded positively towards buying, perceiving it |

Feminism in Jane EyreCharlotte Bronts Jane Eyre stands as one of the most prominent literature works about feminism. The author, by using her personal experience and literary talent, discusses the life, dreams and ideals of women in the Victorian Era. Suppressed by masculine power and social conceptions, the eldest of the Bront sisters hoped that Jane Eyres independence and happiness are ultimate goals which every woman could achieve. In this famous masterwork of her own, Bront speaks against the injustice that women had to suffer and proposes a way out for her protagonist, as well as the rest of the female sex. Throughout Jane Eyre, the protagonist is saddled with a tenacious pessimism concerning her prospects for happiness, which she only overcomes in the very last pages of the book. From the very beginning, Jane is seen to be treated under harsh conditions at the Reeds household. The continuous assaults, both verbally and physically, from Aunt Reeds and her children have made Jane believe that she is |

Creating a Low-Anxiety ClassroomIntroduction Anxiety has been diagnosed in different learning settings, but when it relates to second or foreign language learning, it is called 'second/foreign language anxiety'(cited in Hashemi & Abbasi 640). From the 1970s, researchers started to devote specific attention to learners' affects in order to determine what can obstruct the process of second/foreign language learning. Thus, anxiety emerged as a potentially important field of research due to its extensive harmful effect on learners' achievement (640-641). Research on language learning anxiety has been enriched with two significant works. Scovel qualified anxiety as complex, since it can lead to both high and low performance. On the other hand, Horwitz, Horwitz and cope affirm that language learning anxiety is situational. They designed the Foreign Language Anxiety Scale whose results revealed that language anxiety has negative effects on second/foreign language classroom achievement in different situations (Zheng 2 |

The Great Depression and the Recession of 2008It is a common misnomer that people interchangeably use the words recession and depression. According to Investopedia, a recession is defined as a significant deterioration in activities across the economy. This decline in economic activity should last longer than six months. The indicator of a recession is a two quarter consecutive period of declined Gross Domestic product. On the other hand, a depression is defined as a prolonged recession that lasts two or more years. A depression is characterized by economic factors such as increased unemployment, diminished output, and a marked volatility in currency values. In a depression, consumer confidence and investment decrease causing the economy to shut down[inv12]. This paper intends to explore the differences between the great depression of 1929 and the financial crisis of 2008. The paper identifies the causes of the Great Depression of 1929 and the financial crisis of 2008. It further looks at the government agencies relating to human |

Crime and GlobalizationAs stated in Item B, globalisation is widely regarded as a growing interconnectedness of the world whereby which the world is gradually becoming metaphorically smaller through the increasing use of technology, the internet and the media and better improved and more accessible transportation methods such as budget airline flights. Through these developments it is arguable that the market for crime has also grown, with new crimes even developing such as cyber-crime (as stated in Item B). Castells put forth the idea that there is now a global criminal economy which turns over around 1 trillion per annum. This huge industry includes many different crimes such as arms and human trafficking, the smuggling of human body parts, legal goods and also drugs and international terrorism as examples. Castells said this business relied upon a system of supply and demand poorer countries supply to the strong western demands within, for example, the sex and drugs industries. Christmas - A Christian HolidayWe Filipinos are known to be hospitable and that families have been valued so much by us. We never forget to wear a smile because of the positive attitude that we have possessed amidst our problems or even after disasters come our way. These are the main reasons why we should be proud of our race. Because our population is mostly composed of Christians, our faith and the traditions of the Church become part of our everyday living. From the switching-on of the sun's light until the back-up lighting from the moon, we practice our Christian values and beliefs -----this is evident in our prayer recitals. We celebrate every special occasion with great preparations, one of which is the Christmas season. When darkness falls and overrules the sunlight, sparkling eyes rove around the new sights to behold. This usually starts on the first day of September and is only seen in the Philippines. We Filipinos have been celebrating Christmas the longest around the world for many months. Houses |

Marketing Analysis - Ebay IncorporatedQuestion Analyze the Marketing environment and the forces shaping eBay's business over the years. What conclusions can you draw? Response Since it's online birth in 1995, the marketing environment and subsequent forces shaping eBay's multi billion dollar e-commerce corporation have undoubtedly shifted. In eBay's earlier years, the online flea market focused primarily on specialized products including used, vintage, antique and homemade items in an online auction-type fashion. As nothing like this had ever been successful prior to eBay's entrance to the global online market scene, the phenomenon spread like wild fire. Consumers competing through LCD screens for a "mom-and-pop " bargain couldn't have have been a bigger hit. eBay dominated the online marketplace for over a decade as it's total income and revenue skyrocketed propelling it to the number one e-commerce site in the world by the year 2000. The online powerhouse continued to flourish throughout the new millennium as over 52 |

Milgram's Experiment - Obeying InstructionsThe aim of Milgram's experiment was to know far people would go in obeying an instruction if it involved harming another person. The procedures included 40 volunteers (male) that were recruited via newspaper ad. Aged ranged from 20 to 50 and their jobs were skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled. They were paid $4.50 for just showing up.The psychologist Stanley Milgram created an electric "shock generator" with 30 switches. The switch was marked clearly in 15 volt increments, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The switch had labels on it that showed shock levels from Moderate (75-120) to Strong (135-180). The switches 375-420 Volts were marked "Danger: Severe Shock" and the two highest levels 435-450, was marked "XXX." The shock was fake and would only produce sound when the switches were pressed. The experiment briefly describes the events that took place. The subject was instructed to teach word-pairs to the learner. When the learner made a mistake, the subject was instru |

Business Study - Healthcare ManagementIntroduction Companies who employ large numbers of workers, whether those employees are covered by union representation or the business resides in a "right to work" state, must comply with federal statutes relating to the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The PPACA is a massive program that attempts to cover every aspect of healthcare in the United States, and the effects on employers and employees have created increased costs, frustration, and confusion that creates situations like GMFC is currently experiencing. As a large multidivisional company with over 50,000 employees, GMFC must make critical decisions about healthcare coverage, where making the wrong choice could create a situation where the company goes out of business. This paper will present the issues surrounding continued health care coverage for employees at GMFC, a review of the new regulations covered by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the union's (Local 384) position towa |

Mandatory RecyclingA. Introduction Because of the rapid urbanization and commercialization, the wastage of resources and excessive packaging has made the municipal solid wastes(MSW) problem difficult to tackle. In Hong Kong, 3.60 million tons of MSW were disposed of and the recovery rate was only about 50%. (EPD, HKSAR, 2012). In the past, the government mainly relied on landfilling to deal with MSW, which has caused serious water and land pollution. Hence, some environmentalists began to advocate voluntary recycling in 1980s, encouraging our citizens to separate recyclables from their garbage and dispose of them to recycling spots. Disappointingly, at present, many countries are still hugely depending on landfilling and incineration, while the voluntary recycling scheme, even with various incentives (subsidy or unit tax), has been recorded with low participation rate and effectiveness. As a result, for utilizing the potential recyclable materials in landfills and promoting recycling, many countries suc |

Literary Criticism - The Story of an HourAmerican author Kate Chopin has written two published novels and over a hundred short stories. Most of her stories are set in her hometown of Louisiana and focus on the lives of women. Based on the literary criticisms researched, a lot Kate Chopin's works focused on female emancipation. The era she grew up in was a contemporary society where women were subjected to acting in a certain manner. Women were to get married, have children, and live a traditional life. Chopin did not grow up in a traditional household, perhaps setting the basis on her view of society. She was raised by her mother and grandmother, both widows. Her father died of a train accident when she was only five years old. She was also educated by women, leaving her little room for notion on a traditional marriage. There is no doubt that being raised and educated by women had influence on her view of individuality. Kate was not noted as the traditional contemporary woman as she smoked cigarettes, did not conform to con |
