The New Kid on the BlockIt was a perfect summer afternoon in sweet southern California. I had just made it back home from my daily jog around the block when I noticed the U-Haul truck parked outside of the house next door. My mom was standing on our front porch with one of her famous casseroles calling for me. She handed me the dish and told me to take it to our new neighbors to welcome them into the city. I knocked on the door and a tall handsome boy with thick brown hair and bright blue eyes answered. He told me that his name was David and that he going to be enrolling into Richwood High this coming up school year. I tried to reply back to him but all I could do was stutter, so I handed him the casserole and walked back home. That night I laid in bed hating myself for acting like a total idiot in front of him. There I lay, wondering what I was going to do to make David like me. After a few days of watching David unload boxes from the U-Haul, I finally gained the courage to talk to him. I knew that I had to look my be |

Plays of Edward AlbeeThe Sandbox Short Summary Mommy and Daddy decide to bring Granny to a beach for vacation. Granny was slowly dying. Mommy is a very disrespectful character and she does not care about Granny. As the story unfolds, it was shown that Daddy has no control over the relationship. This is proven by several phrases of "whatever you say, mommy" and even several others that more or less provide the same message. Then, there was an Angel of Death, disguised as a young man in bathing suit. He interacted with the family, repeatedly saying "Hi!" It was not until near the end of the play that this young man revealed that he was in fact the Angel of Death and he wanted to kill Granny. Surprisingly, Granny did not provide any resistance and gave her life just like that. Themes The first theme in "The Sandbox" is society starts losing its values. This point is proven by the statement that granny was born in the farm and was brought to the city by her daughter. Then, the A |

Theater Review - Little Shop of Horrors"Little Shop of Horrors" is a story about a man who finds a strange plant. The man, Seymour, nurses the Venus flytrap back to health with blood. The plant wins Seymour over by giving him everything he wants in life; respect, love, and money. Seymour found his true happiness just in time for it to be gone all at once at the end. Seymour is one of the main characters in the play, and the story revolves around him. In speech class, I learned how people communicate and how to be an effective communicator. While watching the play I seen some examples of the levels of communication, the forms of communication, the forms of artistic expression, and noticed the most and least effective communicator out of the cast. All of these characteristics of communication were expressed during this musical. The first level of communication is the kind that is expressed within oneself, called intrapersonal communication. This form of communication was expressed in the play by one of the character's Audrey |

John Scofield and Coastal MaineIn life, we are brought to make decisions. It is in these situations that we must responsibly employ our ability to think critically. Stable reasoning and logic are finitely essential components for decision making, however it is critical thought that is the less thought of, but quite often more important role. Individuals whom possess the ability to think critically can analyze a scenario, consider and collect valuable information concerning and relating to the problem at hand, and use the findings to determine a solution. When thinking critically, individuals should consider themselves as skeptics, and in doing so look deeper into the scenario. In this state of skepticism, individuals should consider who is supplying the information, as well as consider the scenario's circumstances. To be specific, individuals should be in search of any and all traces of bias. Bias can be defined as someone's personal view of the world as shaped through their experiences and opinions. Absence of a Matriarchal Figure in King LearThe absence of a strong traditional matriarchal character causes great tragedy and conflict in the play King Lear. This is shown through the characters choices made throughout the play. This loss greatly impacts the decision making of both King Lear and Gloucester. Cordelia, herself, has been impacted not by her own choices but by the choices of others. Regan and Goneril were most affected in the way they were raised. In their case; the traditional matriarchal figure was absent and unable to guide them to be traditionally proper women. The absence of the traditional mother figure is felt throughout the entirety of the play. Throughout the play there are many instances that could have been avoided had an understanding traditional matriarchal figure been present. For instance, when Cordelia is banished, had her mother, the Queen, been present to instill some insight on the situation Cordelia's course in life may have been altered for the better. The Heroic Character of Atticus FinchAtticus Finch is the protagonist's father in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. He is a lawyer and resident of Maycomb County, Alabama, and the father of Jem and Scout Finch. He is a widower and a lawyer, both characteristics which help him raise his children in a particular manner, teaching them to be fair and just. Harper Lee based this character on her own father who, like Atticus Finch resided in Alabama practicing law and once represented black defendants in a famous criminal trial. Atticus' background in the story is mostly unknown, but in the book Scout says that he was the first of his family to leave their farm, "Finch's Landing" in order to study and work in law after being homeschooled. Between that and the events that take place in the actual story, we only know that he married, moved to Maycomb, fathered Jem and Scout and became a widower. Then, we see that in the small farmer town, Atticus is respected because of his intelligence, wisdom and exemplary behavior |

The Cruel Hand by Michelle AlexanderIn "The Cruel Hand," Michelle Alexander begins to dive into the lives of ex-offenders - or ex-criminals - as they try to return to a life without bars. Throughout this chapter Ms. Alexander does a great job of using emotional appeal to demonstrate how ex-criminals are ushered into a new form of underclass akin to those of black citizens during the Jim Crow era. The stigmas that come with being an ex-criminal, Alexander states, have become as much of a detriment in every aspect of an ex-offenders' attempt to re-join society as the skin color of blacks post slavery. Once out of prison, ex-criminal are not only faced with the realities of finding everything essential to life: employment, a stable residence, and reconnecting with family, they are also faced with social neglect, copious amounts of legal fees, no government aid, and protocols seemingly designed to send them back to prison. While the realities ex-criminals face after paying their debt to society are not color based, they are just as harsh |

Covert Racism Existing in a Modern WorldRacism is one of the most damaging forms of hatred that has existed for many decades in the United States and all over the world. There has been a lot of talk over the last few years over the question of racism. Some believe that racism is dead, while others believe that racism is not dead. The truth is that racism does still exist but it is a new from of racism that is occurring today and many people are not aware of how much it still exists in our schools workforces, and anywhere else where social lives are occurring. It is obvious that racism isn't as bad it was many decades ago but it surely has not gone away. Racism is still around, but not as an overt form as the forms of the past. It's a new form of racism, which is called covert racism. If the answer has not become obvious to this point, racism is not dead today. According to Kane, racism is playing a big role in today's society. What is racism? "It is hatred of one person by another -- or the belief that another person i |

Living in an American-Pakistani HomeLiving in a Pakistani household and trying to fit in an American life style is not that easy. At home you have to fulfill your parents expectations and you are thought things very differently than any normal American. At school or outside you need to try to blend in with your American friends. At home the American child is taught the American life style while I am taught the Desi (Pakistani) life style. Sometimes you won't fit in with the other children because you have no idea what there talking about. The life styles are totally different and you do things an American child has never heard of. Girls, Drugs/Alcohol, and parties were the BIG three no no's. Studying is something you have to do constantly even if you don't have any work to study. At the end I had to deal with racism and stereotyping that other kids think is funny because you don't fit in. At a usual Desi home you will eat different kinds of food, speak a different language, have a different religion, and different set of |

A Man's Search for MeaningIn "Man's Search for Meaning" Victor Frankl contends that every individual has an innate tendency to search for the meaning of his or her existence. The author's experiences in several s mall NAZI death camps are used quite effectively to illustrate how focusing on the reasons behind a situation rather than the results that follow, allows a person to survive even the most torturous of circumstances. He writes of all the horrors, tragedies, sufferings and torments that he and his fellow prisoners experienced yet he recounted it in a way that seemed so gentle and light but in actuality its depth is profound. When asked why he wrote this book he said "I had wanted simply to convey to the reader by way of a concrete example that life holds a potential meaning under any condition, even the most miserable ones." (Victor Frankl). At the outbreak of World War II, Viktor Emil Frankl was director of therapy in a large mental hospital in Vienna and the organizer of a group of suc |

The Steady Rise of IslamophobiaOne look at the average media outlet's headliners in the past 5-10 years and it's clear that a certain buzzword has managed to stand out: Muslim. With so much attention to a group of 1.57 billion people following its pillars – the fear and hate stemmed from innate xenophobia is inescapable. The concept of Islam has existed since the 7th century C.E but the term "Islamophobia" is a relatively recent neologism. The term's thrust into mainstream sources wasn't a staggering event; it's popularity increased because of the resurgence in the post Cold War and post 9/11 induced fraudulent nationalism. According to the 1997 Runnymede Trust report, Islamophobia includes discrimination against Muslims in employment practices, the provision of health care and education; exclusion of Muslims from government, politics, and employment (including positions of responsibility); violence toward Muslims including physical assaults, verbal abuse and vandalizing of property; and prejudice ag |

Stirring a New Revival of ChristianityThis course has really made me think deeply about my own ethnicity. Personally, I am more defined by my religion and value system than anything else. Just as Armenians are devout Christians, I myself was raised in a very strong Christian household. I grew up surrounded by many self-proclaimed Christians. However, calling yourself a Christian and actually living life through Christ are two very different things. A disturbing trend in this country is the decline of millennial involvement in Christianity, in addition to a lack of morality in general. I experienced 12 years of Catholic schooling in my childhood. My curriculum contained courses teaching me the history of my religion, as well as the principles behind many other prominent religions. This exposure really helped me justify the rationale behind my own beliefs. The problem I think most upcoming Christians have is that they are not educated well enough on their own ideals. Dangers of Adapting to BiofuelsThe concept of replacing gasoline and diesel with biofuels may seem like a beneficial plan, but the negative consequences outweigh its advantages. It has been argued that by switching to biofuels the amount of greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced, thus slowing the deterioration of the atmosphere. But the evidence behind this argument is weak and even contradicting. Biofuels have been around for a long time, despite the incorrect assumption that biofuels are a new proposed solution. At one point in time, large amounts of petroleum were unearthed, which caused the switch to gasoline and biodiesel because they were cheaper options (3). Biofuels were used a lot in the past and are in use today around the globe, but the United States has not made the big switch to biofuels. Biofuels should not replace our existing sources because they don't really reduce greenhouse gas emissions, food prices will increase, and problems concerning our sources of land will arise. Biofuels are known as &q |

George Milton - Character AnalysisThe main character of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is George Milton. George is a migrant worker who has taken on the responsibility of taking care for his friend Lennie Smalls, a strong kind man who suffers from a mild disability. Throughout the novel, George has many weaknesses, conflicts, and strengths. While George is quick tempered, he is also smart, protective, and responsible. He faces numerous conflicts, but most of them are a result of Lennie's actions. Through George, the author enables readers to examine several important aspects of life in general, such as injustice and The American Dream. George has many weaknesses of the novel Of Mice and Men. One weakness is his temper. George often gets frustrated with Lennie and reminds Lennie how much better his life would be if Lennie were not a part of it. He sometimes is insensitive to Lennie's disability and allows his vexation to get the best of him. In the beginning of the novel, for example, he loses his patience afte |

The Compromise of 1850The 1850's in American History were a time of turmoil because of the sectionalism between the North and the South due to the increasing problem of slavery in the territories. The Compromise of 1850 was supposed to be a way for both the North and the South to get what they wanted. The Compromise would split the country and no side would have what they wanted. The South wanted the 36∘ 30' line, which was originally stated in the Missouri Compromise, extended through the territories. The Northerners believed in the Wilmot Proviso, which would have abolished all slavery in the territories gained from the Mexican War. The Compromise was California was to become a free state but the rest of the territories gained would be open to popular sovereignty. The North wanted slavery abolished in Washington D.C., it gave foreign officials a bad representation of the country as a whole. The Compromise abolished just slave trade in Washington D.C. Principles of Responsible CommerceAbout my in-class writing submission in week 2 tutorial about my understanding of the need of engage in responsible commerce, it is just a superficial discussion. At that time I did not thinking about this topic systematically. In that article, I only talk about the importance of responsible commerce like how necessary of responsible commerce and what consequences it can be brought if there is not responsible commerce. To my mind, 'responsible commerce' refers to the corporation preventing and solving long term issues to maximize the benefits of the shareholders and stakeholders which compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards and international norms. Rock Music and RapWe all listen to music; we all have a preferable genre of music we listen to. Music sends a message and brings people together. Two genres in particular, Rap and Rock are my two favorite genres of music. I do have a favorite, that being rap, but both are the best genres in music in my opinion. Both rap and roc share a few similarities for being two different types of music. Of course, they do have difference with each other as well. However, many people tend to choose one genre over the other either because they don't know or don't want to know about the other genre or because they've had a bad experience listening to the other genres songs. Now, this essay won't be biased in anyway, but I'll let the reader decide what genre they choose to listen to better, or to make the reader realize both genres are great forms of music. This essay will be about the main similarities and differences between the two genres to not be biased and to allow you to choose whether you'll give one a try or l |

Analysis of Ellen HopkinsYoung adult readers often overlook poetry and view it as dated and monotonous. Ellen Hopkins is a contemporary novelist who has found a way to intrigue the minds of young adults using poetry in her numerous verse novels. She is notorious for drawing inspiration from her own life and has perfected the ability to express the intense emotions felt by struggling adolescents. In her novels Crank and Identical, Hopkins explores the lives of teens dealing with addiction, suicide, abuse and mental illness, allowing adolescent readers to understand and emotionally connect to themselves and others. Military of the Mongol EmpireThe Mongol empire ended up being about 127,413,066 square miles, but it did not start out that big. To become such a large empire the Mongols had to gain quite a bit of land and in a short time too, because the Mongol Empire only lasted 162 years. The Mongols accomplished the conquest of a large territory in a short period of time because of tactics (doc,1,2) that allowed them to beat opposing armies. They had a great deal of resources and workforce to supply the armies, (doc 3,4,5,10,11) and with their spread of culture and ideas to regions (doc 6,7) allowed regions to be culturally diverse. With their correspondence with other empires and kingdoms (doc 8,9) they could allow others to know they were a empire to fear. Methods of Medical ImagingIn the medical imaging field there are many methods of research to learn more about diseases and ailments. Techniques such as: X-rays, CT scans, DSR, DSA, PET, Ultrasound, MRI, and MRS scans. These medical imaging techniques are used to look at organ function, blood flow, bones, tumors, the bran and many other parts of the human body. One of the most common medical imaging techniques is X-Rays. X-rays use radiation to project black and white images of the human body. Different tissues take different amounts of radiation, therefore, bones look white, fat/tissues look grey, and air absorbs no radiation so therefore it shows up as black. The uses of X-rays include: checking for broken bones, scoping out the lungs for pneumonia, mammograms to locate breast cancer, and metastases. Perks of X-rays include: quickness, non-invasive, painless, and can help diagnose broken bones, cancer, and infections. Disadvantages include: Increased risk of future cancers from exposure to radiation. CT scans are used to X-ray over multiple cross-sectional layers from within the body. This inc |

Accepting HomosexulaityHomosexuality has always been a part of the American culture, but lately, the awareness of the issue has increased. In this country's past, homosexuality has been hidden and the subject has been avoided. Today homosexuality is not only mentioned, it is discussed and debated over in lengths. Those who consider themselves homosexual today still face prejudice and stereotyping, but have also found much support and encouragement in the American culture. Although throughout American history homosexuality has been viewed negatively, in recent years, the United States has significantly changed its view to one of acceptance. The American people, much like they have in years past on other issues, have divided themselves in beliefs and opinions of the morality of homosexuality. There are the people that have accepted and support homosexuals, such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Society, and on the other end, there are the people who condemn and reject the way of life homos |

Markets and Value Chain ManagementIntroduction Today in this dynamic business world with a big competition every business strives to be better and to surpass others (Hewitt, 1994). The modern business is a game in which everyone tries to beat the others with unexpected move or even two to be forward. In the recent years the topic about the effective value chain management and its implementation on the market is extremely discussed. I believe that it should be targeted towards the market and in this paper I would like to present an explanation what is value chain, how came the need for it and some examples which show that it is an important tool for the market. Background First I would like to start with a brief explanation of what is supply chain management (SC). This concept represents management and improvement of the entire product life cycle from conception to consumption (Blanchard, p.3). The most accurate definition is that "Supply chain management integrates supply and demand management within and across c |
