Concepts of Personal HygieneMaintaining a quality of life that is up to standards is a way to ensure that everyone will have a safe and healthy environment. We all have a role to play when it comes to keeping our rooms clean, and making sure we do our part maintaining the area that we have been assigned while we are at the academy. We were all told what was expected of us in the first week of the academy and it has been up to us to keep that standard, and look after our fellow class mates to keep everyone in the same mentality, and keep things at the cleanliness, and uniform that is expected of all of us. Uniformity has a place with camaraderie, which is a detrimental part of our jobs now that we are all in law enforcement. We have to be able to work together in any situation, and rely on each other. Having a uniform way of doing thing means that, even when you are not there, you should know exactly what the other person on your team is going to do. State Alliances and International StatureState alliances are made to improve the countries' international stature. These pacts often revolve around economics, a shared cultural identity, or a strategic advantage. In the Neach Literature Review, we see how alliances work between hegemonic powers and smaller states. It is said that the alliance help smaller states achieve their foreign policies; consequently, hegemonic states would want access to elements that would spread their sphere of influence. In this era, smaller states seem to be the primary benefactors of this asymmetric alliance, leaving the hegemonic state with no significant economic or military advantages. The literature review seek to emphasize the identity basis to these alliances and find patterns of actions to grasp the decisions made by the states who practice paternalistic alliances. The hegemonic state subjects itself to the costs of the alliances to try and control the smaller state. The smaller state want |

Narrative Essay - Learning New ThingsLearning new things can be a scary experience. One of the most challenging things I've ever had to learn as a child was how to swim. I've always loved being in the water, but I was afraid of going further than the steps to get into the water. When the opportunity came about to take swimming classes, I was so thrilled to learn but also a little afraid. I couldn't wait for the end of the school year to be able to learn how to swim during the summer. What was in store for me? I had no idea, but I was anxious. In new situations I always get nervous, and my first day in swimming class was no different. I was so nervous that I didn't want to get out of the car. My mother had to convince me that I could do anything I put my mind to. I got out of the car after what felt like hours of me saying I didn't want to take the class anymore. Standing in the door of the locker room was a Caucasian woman with gray hair, glasses, and a very mean look on her face. As my mom |

The Importance of BreakfastEveryone has heard at one point or another that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That is not just a popular opinion it is actually a fact. Eating breakfast is essential because the brain and body needs to refuel in order to function at full capacity. The problem with breakfast is that, for many, it is an inconvenience. Having to be up an active for the first few hours of each day without any food in your system is unhealthy and unproductive. For students at Holderness, myself included, not only is it a huge inconvenience to eat breakfast, but in the winter especially it can be difficult to even make it to lunch. With such a busy schedule it is too easy to cut out things like meals, typically breakfast and lunch. Not eating breakfast is bad enough, but when lunch also gets cut from the daily schedule, it is unhealthy, uncomfortable, and limiting. Studies show that by eating breakfast directly correlates with a more positive academic performance. Eating breakfast also increases a persons diet quality and body weight. In terms of students at School and other schools a like, eating breakfast can boost |

My Teaching PhilosophyThe ability of a teacher to contribute to the pedagogy of students is essential and of great privilege. American journalist and former news anchor Dan Rather, opened up his 1977 autobiography The Camera Never Blinks, with a profound statement about the beginning of his dreams, ignited by a former teacher The quote reads, "The dream begins most of the time with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes even poking you with a sharp stick called truth." Fundamentally, I will strive to foster the ambitions of empowerment, determination, persistence in my students, regardless of the circumstances or challenges that may arise. Creating a positive learning environment and leading by example, will provide a strong paradigm for my students to base their own beliefs off. Supporting my students will continuously |

Short Story - Irony"You are cordially invited..." read the invitation addressed to him from his neighbor. He just got off his late night from work. John checked his mailbox every day, for the past 5 years; at the same time. He never received anything inviting him anywhere, until March 11th. John would work for days at a time without any break, as a result John never had a social life. He read the invitation and pondered "Why now after so many years?" He read on, while sipping his English tea, "to a dinner party at Nicole's manor on the evening of March 12th at Seven O'clock." T he invite was dated for the following night. He recalls thinking "what could possibly go wrong?" as he convinces himself as to why he should attend since he has never met Nicole. John figured he would just sleep on it, so he tossed the invitation on his nightstand and headed to bed. The next morning John woke up and noticed the invitation on his nightstand. The rumors about Nicole were somewhat disturbing, however, no one kn |

George W. Bush and Barack ObamaEvery four years, one person is given the responsibility of running a nation. They are elected by the people to serve them to the best of their ability and to provide the citizens of the United States of America with the best quality of life and to represent their country on the world stage. The two most recent of these have both been heavily criticized on just how successful they were at doing so, George W. Bush, being one of the most well-known Presidents, with his "War on Terror", and the current President, Barack Obama, a historic President by virtue of his race. Both were chosen to represent the people of the United States and have been entrusted with the duty of regulating and creating both domestic and international policy. But which of the two has been more successful? By observing facets of both their domestic and international policies, such as their economic, healthcare, and foreign policies (international relations, defense) it will be evident which President has |

Every of the Gospels have an important and diverse portrait of who Jesus is. In the book of John, which he portrays Jesus as a Jewish Messiah, because John was a Jew himself. The Gospel of John reveals Jesus as an in control, supernatural King. John describes Jesus as a supernatural Teacher. Because of the radical signs from raising Lazarus from the dead in John 11. Jesus also reveals himself as a supernatural Messiah with the healing of the blind man in John 9, and the feeding of the feeding of the 5000 in John 6. Also, Jesus is shown as an in control King when He is on the Cross in Chapter 19. He shows this by taking care of his mother. We witness Jesus being King as He firmly declares, "it is finished" in verse 30. In the Gospel of John, Jesus is portrayed as a supernatural, in controlled King. The Unlikely Pilgrimage"Trials are lessons that you failed to learn, presented once again. So, where you made a faulty choice before, you can now make a better one and escape all pain that you chose before has brought you" – A Course in Miracles. In our minds, all people construct "story of their lives" based on their life experiences, both moral and immoral. When they think about the meaning of their lives, they are thinking about the meaning of this story. When cancer enters, this story is transformed. A new chapter arises, and its meaning will stem partly from their life story up to that point and partly from how they respond to their illness. Whatever meaning their illness carries, it will have an effect on their emotions and behaviour. That being said, individuals are going to run into problems in their consideration. Everybody does. Problems come in all shapes and sizes. The main trick in dealing with obstacles is to adopt the right attitude. Difficulties are an integral and f |

Tsarist Regime and the 1905 and 1917 RevolutionsThe tsarist regime was able to the 1905 revolution for a number of key reasons such as the support of the armed forces and key point that the opposition's aims were not to overthrow the tsarist regime itself. However in the 1917 revolution these points and many other factors are reversed against Tsar Nicholas II and he is unable to bring the rising masses of Russia under control and therefore the 1917 February revolution succeeded in forced the abdication of the Tsar and with him the Tsarist regime. The first key factor in why the Tsar survived the 1905 revolution was the support of the armed forces. Even though the Tsar had just being embarrassed in the Russo-Japanese war his armed forces were still loyal to him. They showed this by the events of Bloody Sunday when troops loyal to the Tsar shot at the marching revolutionaries and even though it wasn't actually his orders this event still showed the loyalty the army had towards him and the Tsarist regime. The Importance and Power of MoneyWhat is money? What are things that money can buy? When people talk about money, they usually believe that money can buy everything they want. They say that they can use money to buy what they need like: clothes, food, study materials, furniture, jewelry, houses, and so on. Some people say that they can have happiness in the family when they much money and money can provide them reputation. Some people say that money is their best friend, their power. For those people, money is everything in their lives. However, I personally believe that money cannot buy everything at all. Love is the common thing in life that money cannot buy. Money cannot buy love because it has to be earned by heart not by money, especially, love between a couple, parents to children, children to their parents, brothers to sisters, friends to friends, person to his nation. Money may help us meet many people in society, but it does not mean that it can buy love or friendship from those people for us. Somehow they can be close to us but it does not mean that they have the real relationship or the real friendship with us. They can get along with us because of mone |

Changing Perceptions of Medical MarijuanaAbstract To get a better understanding on how the general public views the legalization of marijuana in Washington State, I decided to take a survey. I set up a set of simple question to get opinions, ages, and races to compile my results. Which found that the younger demographic, (16-25) had the highest numbers supporting marijuana as not being detrimental to their lives. Finally I discuss the findings in detail, and speculate on what the future hold for the taboo of marijuana. Introduction The year is 2015 and marijuana is now legal in Washington State, both recreationally and medicinally, but what are the side effects? This question not only regards health concerns in general but also considers younger generations exposed to marijuana no longer as much a taboo as it was 10 years ago. Would it be helpful to nationally legalize marijuana thereby making it less of a forbidden fruit for teens and young adults? As an avid supporter of medical marijuana for all its medicinal uses I chose |

International Organizations in Developing NationsNowadays, developing countries around the world are facing obstacles regarding to reaching their goals. International organizations can help developing nations in many ways such as reducing civil wars, lending money, and increasing the level of education and health care in developing countries. Considering the political issues, civil wars destroy the unity among people in a country. Two or more groups in a country get in conflict with each other because they cannot reach a compromise for their dispute. When the problem between the two groups gets more intense, people from both sides start to kill each other and compel one another to surrender. At this point, international organizations such as United Nations Security Council can deploy peacekeeping troops to the |

Language and Motor DevelopmentMany do not understand the importance of motor and language development because they aren't aware of the huge role it plays in an individuals' development. Symbols of Freedom in DreamspeakerSimply put, freedom is defined as the condition of minimal restraint. This is the main theme in Dreamspeaker. The author, Cam Hubert, addresses this topic with symbols. Using the Sisiutl, legends, dances and suicide, Hubert makes sure that readers see both the good and the bad of freedom. Peter had never felt free before escaping from the institution. When he finally got out, peter experienced the best parts and the worst parts of living a free life. Symbols are used by Hubert to represent all parts of freedom. The first symbol to show up in the novel is the Sisiutl, a mythological creature of indigenous tribes from British Columbia. A Sisiutl's form is "something long and snake-like, leaving a wet trail on the floor, raising it's horned heads, searching, looking both in front and behind". Quite a creepy image to think about. In Dreamspeaker, the Sisiutl is used as a symbol for Peter's lack of freedom. Being tossed around from foster home to foster home, Peter |

Don't Ask Don't Tell - Being Gay in the MilitaryOn February 28, 1994 the Clinton Administration initiated the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy into effect. This policy prevented military personnel from discriminating against or harassing bisexual or homosexual service members or applicants, while denying openly gay, bisexual, or lesbian's military service. It was a shared belief by most in and around the military that people who shared in this kind of behavior would undermine the high standards of good order, discipline, morale, and unit cohesion that are the backbone of the military. Since its inception this policy has sparked much debate and controversy over the years. Should the gay community be allowed to serve in the military? The answer should be yes, unfortunately it isn't that simple. Nothing in America's history has been simple or easy, especially on issues such as these. In order to understand let's explore the background behind all of this. Since the Revolutionary War sodomy was frowned upon and automatic |

Power as Poison in The Crucible"The highest mode of corruption is the abuse of power", Auliq Ice. No person is born evil. The concept of evil is taught and shaped by one's desire to gain power and control. Power has the ability to twist people into ugly and inhumane creatures. One person holding too much power is a scary reality, especially when they are influenced by strong emotions like greed or jealousy. And an even scarier reality is when people give into spiteful authority and accept it silently. This can be seen taking place in the highly acclaimed play, The Crucible, which is based on historically accurate events and is written by Arthur Miller. In this play, when a few people start accusing others of witchcraft, it sparks an uproar in the Town of Salem. Friends turn into enemies, and enemies come together against friends. The true consequences of abusing one's authorities and the corruption of power come to life. For instance, abusing one's power and authority for their own personal greed makes for |

I See a Killer Die by Allan HallI recently came across the article 'I See a Killer Die' by Allan Hall in this article I was intrigued by the different view on capital punishment, although I strongly agree with the death penalty. Robert Harris was a man with no conscious he was unaware of what he did and why. Harris deserved to die for this merciless actions and ruthless crimes. He killed two innocent teenage boys; one was shot 4 times in the back and the other with one shot to the head. Early that day just before he committed his final crime he robbed a bank, got away with the money and his partner in crime which resulted him to hijack a car and kill the owner of the vehicle and his best friend and a result of this inhumane crime he was charged and sentenced to death. Harris was insane 'Harris was a psychopath who spent his youth torturing and killing cats and dogs. This shows that Harris was mentally unstable and needed psychological help from a young age. He's mental state might have blurred the lines between right and wrong. But that he did was done and it cannot be undone, he is a danger to |

Human Behavior and Social Enviorment ReflectionInteracting with one another is no easy task especially in this time of technology-facilitated isolation. All too easy it is to hide behind a Kindle, cell phone or iPod. One is in a room full of people and still not make human contact. For the sake of self-reflection, I feel compelled to exercise full disclosure in that I can easily fall prey to this dynamic. Even when I pry my eyes from the technology, I tend to play the role of observer for a bit; assessing the environment and its players. Being part of the program has enlightened me. I have found myself thrown into an environment where the give and take of interaction is essential to being successful in the program. When at work, there is less concern around interaction, I am responsible for developing and running a program smoothly, efficiently and successfully, and I know how to lead the team of counselors to help make that happen. When meeting with clients I already know before I even meet them that they are anxious, fearful an |

The Veldt by Ray BradburySustainable technological developments have been benefiting mankind throughout the past century, and have, more specifically, improved the quality of life. Apodictically, advanced technology plays such a significant role in society, sometimes even inflicting a negative impact on humans due to its indispensability. In the short story, "The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury, the nursery is the source of nightmares that portrays how technology can be detrimental. The nursery has been enabling the children all along with their atrocious desire, which also replaces the parental necessity in the children's consciousness. Furthermore, children grow too dependent on the nursery, to the point in which they consider it as their highest priority. First of all, the influential ability of the nursery facilitates the children's fascination towards violence and murder. As mentioned in the short story, George Hadley discovers both his and Lydia's belongings in the nursery with mysterious struggle signs. "The |
