Scientific Theory PaperThe scientific method is a very important and essential part of science and a way to understand the world that we live in. The scientific method follows a standardized procedure that almost all scientists use today which is universally accepted. This standardized procedure can begin with a simple observation or question that can lead to a theory or law that is generally accepted by everyone in the world. When done accurately, the scientific method can help produce a greater understanding of the world and help eliminate any problems or bias that may come with developing a specific scientific theory. There are a couple main steps that are involved in the scientific method. This process often begins with something as simple as a person or group of people observing a phenomenon or asking a question, and then they may form a hypothesis to test these observations or questions. A hypothesis is best described as an educated guess on what the person thinks is the answer to their question or the cause of the phenomenon they observed. The next step consists of them beginning to think of a way to test the hypothesis to prove that it is correct. After developing a |

(Pianin, E, September 4 2014) This time, the victims of war is not only soldiers nor civilians. It is the historical artifacts. In this essay, the writer would like to assess how ISIS finances their ultimate goal to build an Islamic state and the consequences they face from the opposing forces. As we have known, ISIS goal is to build an Islamic state by invading surrounding states. In order to achieve this goal, ISIS must have a strong financial power. (Wood, G., February 15 2015) ISIS has 3 major contributors for their financial support for war effort, which are; Extortion, Oil, and illicit lootings. Extortion plays a great part in ISIS financial cash flow. ISIS way of extortion is to raise the tax exponentially and physically punish the civilians if they refuse to cooperate. Character Reflections in OthelloNelson's modern appropriation of William Shakespeare's Othello transcends the Shakespearean concepts through time and culture, but also integrates 21st century values through the modification of characters. Comparison between the plays allows us to explore the changing roles of woman and society's differing understanding towards cultural marginalization and nobility. The two plays stands unique in their display of ideas, but remains relevant across time and culture as it educates us in its discovery of contextual values. The differences in the Elizabethan and modern understanding of cultural marginalization is highlighted in the comparison between the dialogues and characterisation of Odin and Othello. Othello is aware of the surrounding racial prejudice, but remains silent under internalisation of racism. He accepts the reference to himself as the "moor", much more than Odin accepts the equivalent word "nigger". Odin's eruption upon Mike's mention of "nigger |

Messages in Life is BeautifulAn important key message that the main character Guido illustrates in the film Life is Beautiful, directed by Roberto Begnini, is how the desire to protect loved ones can overshadow one's fear, which is illustrated through Guido's qualities of quick thinking, sacrificial love and braveness. His quality of having a quick thinking is portrayed when he translates the rules of the concentration camp through the use of dialogue, his quality of sacrificial love is portrayed in the scene when he gives Dora a message of hope over the loudspeaker through the visual technique of lighting and his quality of being brave is portrayed in the scene when he is caught searching for his wife through the visual technique of colour. Firstly, Begnini uses the verbal technique of dialogue to illustrate the key message of how the desire to protect loved one's can overshadow one's fear in the scene when Guido uses his quick wit and thinking to translate the concentration camp rules. Guido translates: " |

Thomas Jefferson and the Slave MansionIn May 1768, Thomas Jefferson inherited property from his father Peter Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson had a picture of his dream house and spent most of his adult life to accomplish his ideal house. Throughout forty years he would construct and redesign the building. He said. "Architecture is my delight, and putting up, and pulling down, one of my favorite amusements." (Monticello) According to Smithsonian Thomas Jefferson's mansion stood atop his mountain like the Platonic idea of a house, to reach it one must ascend what a visitor called "this steep, savage hill." Through a thick forest and swirls of mist that recede at the summit. (Smithsonian) On the surface one would see a beautiful mansion but once everything is stripped away it would be seen as nothing other than a slave plantation. Thomas Jefferson personally designed the layout and setup of Monticello and created the social and hierarchal system of the plantation. Thomas Jefferson named it Monticello. Which is |

The Definition of SuccessWe tend to compare with other. Not knowing what is best for us. If we see our relative or a friend in the mechanic trade doing rather successfully. We say oh this trade is good for me. But try to think again. Is it really good for you? Or are we just comparing with someone else's success. He might have a passion to do the trade. You might be good at carpentry. You can be a success as a carpenter. This comparison have made most of the people unhappy. They are just pulling their life as a horse pulls a cart unwillingly. After many years they forget the real reason to be a mechanic and start blaming the life for it. Life is hard. Life is cruel. Life has no meaning. Why does this happen with me? Secondly the competition. Competition almost blind's the individual. A blind race. Career, progression are the words used to run this race. Asked why are you running. He says, because the one in front of me is running. Asked, why is he running. |

Community Service, Society and StudentsIn 2010, Ministry of Education passed a regulation of "Service-Learning," aiming to cultivate students' sense of service. This regulation commands that every student perform community service for a certain period of time. Furthermore, community service counts as a compulsory course. That is, students have no choice but to do community service whether they are willing or not. However, recently, some people started to argue against "compulsory service-learning," claiming that it does no good to students at all. From my perspective, I am also against this rule. Students should not be forced to perform community service. Since the service-learning course is compulsory, it is inevitable that every student has to perform community service. However, most of the students do the service unwillingly. If students do not perform the service out of willingness, they will not entirely devote themselves to their work and thus decline the quality of the service. For example, some junior high s |

Amir and The Kite RunnerEvery person inherently possesses attributes that determine the strength and weakness of their personality. Daily situations test the strength and weaknesses of an individual's personality, while some may act with courage others will give into their weakness due to their fears. In Hosseini's novel "The Kite Runner", Hassan shows strength through courage and loyalty while Amir proves to be weak, this is shown through the bullying, rape and framing scenes. The significance of this is the weaknesses and strengths of people determine differing outcomes within similar situations. Hassan and Amir's strengths are tested proving Hassan to be a courageous character while evidently portraying Amir as a weak character. Throughout the novel, Hassan suffers through bullying, false accusations and rape while Amir stands along the side and is either the purpose of his suffering or watches while it happens fearing the consequence of standing up for his friend. Artisitc Changes of the High Gothic EraThere were many Architectural and structural changes during the evolution from the Romanesque Era to the High Gothic Era. Romanesque (Roman like) Architecture, for example the Pisa Cathedral located in Pisa Italy changed into Early Gothic, and a number of years later High Gothic Architecture. Early Gothic and High Gothic Architecture was prevalent primarily in France, Europe as well as the Middle East after the Roman Empire fell in the fifth century. In the time of this new age of architecture trade routes were opened to the east which brought forth an exchange of cultural & religious idealism as well as market trade, and exchange of ideas and techniques. This time was a great era of enlightenment, expansion of knowledge and artistry, and an inventive leap in architectural creation. The Cities and their civilization revolved around and were in very close proximity to the religious structures. The structures, centers of life, called to philosophers, artists, intellectuals, and civilians alike from al |

Karl Marx and the Conflict TheorySince the beginning of time, one encounters many social situations. The way a human processes these issues says a lot about her or his general view on life. While there are many theories, there are three major theoretical perspectives: functionalism theory, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism theory. Moreover, the conflict theory was originated from Karl Marx's early works, which is based on the idea of various groups competing for scarcest resources. Moreover, The conflict theory according the textbook is defined as "the belief that social conflict is the basis of society and social change that empathizes a materialist view of society, critical view of the status quo, and dynamic model of historical change." Further, the conflict theory may include the difference between racial conflicts, gender conflicts or even democrat |

Sociological Implications and Modern DiasporaWhen large segments of populations are displaced by natural or man-made disasters, people become separated from time-honored roots of language, culture, and social bonds. As a result, displaced peoples are forced to create new social and economic relations in the areas to which they re-locate, as well as change existing social dynamics in the receiving society. As the 21st century progresses, the effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and growing economic inequality dramatically increases the potential for displacement and social conflicts in vulnerable regions all over the globe. Unfortunately, while much attention is focused on the science surrounding climate change and other environmental crises, neither social scientists nor policymakers seem to be adequately examining the sociological and political implications of the increased, sudden migrations that are emerging as a result of rapid environmental change. It is critical to do so, for socioeconomic conditions are i |

Hesiod's Creation and Greek CultureMyths have existed since ancient time and they tend to represent the culture that they came from so we can get to know those cultures even when we didn't live in them. Hesiod is one of the earliest and primary Greek Poet and a major source for Greek mythology. During his poem of the Creation, it reveals many aspects of ancient Greek culture that were parts of it for many decades. From this poem we can draw out three points that are relevant to Greek cultures. We can conclude how they had very intense father-son rivalry, also how they perceived woman and the importance of fate. In Hesiod's poem, father-son rivalry is something that constantly appears and has great impact on the rest of the stories. "(), the rivalry between fathers and sons even among the gods sets the tone for the Greek mythical system."(Thury 29) Because even amongst the gods the rivalry existed it was also a norm amongst human, especially since sons had to wait until they established themselves to get marri |

Sexual Instincts in LiteratureThe sexual instinct has been a staple in lyric poetry since its early stages in the work of Greek poets, leading all the way to the contemporary and modern lyricists of today. Lyrical libido refers to the development of the sexual nature in poems as a literary devise using erotic allusion, narrative, or imagery within various poetic structures. Poets of lyrical libido show some astonishing similarities across thousands of years; they are personal, metaphorical, and candid; they show us that the sexual, or Eros, is such a constant in human exchange that it forms a tradition with the art of poetry itself. Poets who employ lyrical libido use their particular skills in transforming brief moments of euphoria, passion, and sometimes aggression into vivid encapsulating depictions of raw, sensual, and metaphysical pleasure. An excursion into poems from the 4th century BCE to the 21st century shows that throughout diverse cultures, religions, and societies, poets have been integrating the commo |

Cathedral by Raymond CarverThe event in my life that is very significant to me and to who I am today is me signing the oath of enlistment to join the United States Air Force on January 3rd, 2013. This was the day where I would have to put everything back home behind me for a couple months to work with a group of guys I had never met before. Not just any group of guys though, a group I would soon call my brothers who I'd share laughs, stories, arguments and beliefs with. As you can imagine, being from the most "redneck" or "hillbilly" part of New York, I had a very hard set image and belief on how things are and how they should be. I was just brought up a specific way, to see things for how they are and not think twice of it. I was taught to say "Yes sir" and "No sir" to everyone I met. I was taught how to work hard and not stop working until the job was done. Everyone on this earth is brought up a different way with different views and beliefs, especially in the military. |

Gerontology and the Aging PopulationMany advances have been made in medicine, health awareness, and technology. This has led to a society of stronger people who generally have longer lifespans. With humans living longer, there is a growing need to understand how this affects our society now and in the future. The field of gerontology which focuses on the aged population has become a subject of discussion, and rightly so because what we expect to see in the near future is an issue that is important and warrants our attention. Gerontology is the scientific study of old age, the process of aging, and the special problems of the elderly. This field of study is both relevant and timely. By studying this field, we gain knowledge of how aging affects our society, we see the impact of the baby boom generation, and we learn how gerontologist can influence change in elderly issues. This issue of aging has a huge effect on society and deserves our attention. Society's view on the elderly influences how we treat them, what value is |

Symptoms and Treatments of OCDObsessive Compulsive disorder (also known as OCD) is a mental disorder characterized by the unnecessary need to display extremely routine and specific behaviors. People with OCD typically feel strong urges to do something over and over again just to feel safe. The urges are called obsessions and the ritualistic behaviors are called compulsions. For example: someone with OCD may develop an obsession with intruders, which could cause them to locking and re-locking their door several times before lying down to sleep. Many people with OCD are aware that their obsessions are unreasonable, but they feel powerless against them. "The majority (76%) of individuals with OCD have an Anxiety Disorder (e.g., Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobia), and 63% have a Depressive or Bipolar Disorder" (Long, 2014). The Conflict in YemenIn the Middle Eastern country of Yemen, a battle is being fought leaving much destruction to infrastructure and hundreds of lives lost. Actually it is not so much of a battle as it is a total, one-sided bombardment of this country. This is an attempt from a U.N. sponsored, Saudi led coalition that is trying to persuade Houthi rebels into thinking reasonably and diplomatically by bombing them back into the Stone Age. In order to fully understand what brought the U.N. to a point of agreement on engagement of this operation, it is important to understand the recent history of Yemen and the events leading up to this conflict. Equally important is the geographic location of Yemen, the main actors fighting over this country and who directly benefits from this operation. During the Arab spring of 2011, armed Yemeni forces removed then President Saleh from power. In 2012, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi ran unopposed for President and was elected. Poster Children and SupercripsSociety has a tendency to create stereotypes to define various populations. Such is the case with disabled people. However, time and again we can see how these stereotypes have led not only to marginalization, but also to blatant oppression of said minority groups. This can be easily illustrated in the case of women, people of African heritage, and most recently the lesbian, gay, transgender, and queer-identified community. (Shapiro, 1993.) Disabled people are no different. In this paper I will argue that while the origin of stereotyping disabled persons may have been well-intended, it has served to create an environment which has prevented many disabled people from flourishing. By displaying certain types of disabled people as pitiable, able-bodied people are able to feel superior for their contributions to the charitable cause du jour. Meanwhile, the very people whose lives are most relevant to the cause have been muted by the charitable organizations which they are supposed to represent. In 1843, Charles Dickens' novella A Christmas Carol was published to high acclaim and success. In the fable-esque story, Dickens used specific archetypes to make a point about Chri |

Money Management is Serious BuisnessThere are many things I am good at doing; reading, gaming, my job in security, honing my skills at the pistol range. Out of all of those skills the one thing I am most proud of being good at is being a father to my daughter. My own biological father was never there for me or around, and even though my step father filled his shoes it was never really the same. I promised myself when she was born just over three years ago that I would always be a part of her life; I would not become my biological father. My daughter Kahlan is the most important thing in the world to me and nothing will ever change that. However, one thing I am not very good at that I would like to learn to be better on is managing my money. Financial planning is not something I am good at in any way, I get money in my account and something in the back of my mind screams "spend it!" This is not good for many reasons but the main one is because of my daughter Kahlan. I do not want her picking up my bad spending |
