Belief in the Exisitence of GodOne of the largest questions that has logically tormented mankind since the beginning is, the existence of God. Various philosophers have argued that there is or is not a God, as well as different types of gods. We mostly see belief in different types of gods in religions still praised upon to this day. It is extremely difficult to affirm if God can even exist because of the considerable lack or limited knowledge regarding "him". Mankind has been in existence for only so long, there are not many pieces of history left to study to fully make this determination. Only God himself could know what mankind could be missing to find the conclusive answer. Ways of thinking has changed progressively enough to allow us to clench more complicated ideas to make up for lost history, with high potential of coming up with the conclusion of whether or not God may exist. The believers of God, like myself, truly allow him into our lives as a safegate of someone always being there for us |

Research Paper - TsunamisThe Natural Phenomenon A tsunami is, simply put, an enormous wave that destroys anything and everything in its path. But, that is not usually what it looks like. Tsunamis are caused by an underwater disturbance, such as an earthquake, landslide, volcanic eruption, or meteorite. If you are on the coast watching the tides, you will see that the water recedes quite a lot--about 10 feet. Even though people notice this happening, they just dismiss it as weird and nothing to worry about. Then, small ripples begin to swirl further away from the coastline. After that, a larger wave comes upon the coast--the wave may be tall or short, but that doesn't really matter in the long run. Water starts rushing in from the ocean, rapidly flooding the land and creating extremely strong currents. It is very much like what would happen if you let the bathtub overflow for a long time; the bathroom would be completely flooded, while water is still rushing over the side of the bathtub. Tsunamis always happen |

Dance Concert OverviewArriving to the dance concert, I was rather surprised about the outcome. I did not expect there to be such a large audience. The night I attended was Friday night, I am not sure if Friday night was the night that had the biggest audience or not but I was rather shocked at the popularity it drew, particularly other college kids. I was also surprised so many other people dressed up so nicely for the recital. I thought I was dressed nice but after I arrived I felt a little underdressed for the occasion. I also have never been inside of the theatre and I was taken back by how fancy the theatre was. I felt like I was at the Fox for a couple of seconds. Once the show started I noticed there was no introduction or anything letting you know that the show was starting. I have never been to a professional dance concert so I am not sure if that is similar to how they are ran, however with my dance studio and my high school dance team there was always someone to welcome the audience, and someone t |

Locavore - Eating Local FoodsIn 2005, Jessica Prentice coined the word "locavore" at World Environment Day. Ever since then, people have debated whether or not we are better off eating only locally grown and produced food, instead of food flown in from around the world. The locavore movement is gaining in popularity, and is both important and necessary for the sustainability of planet earth, and for the health of all its inhabitants, on the land and in the sea. Furthermore, people are learning that less processed and more plant based food is another way to maintain better health and a cleaner planet. In order to better understand the ideals of the locavore movement it is important to recognize that our food choices are not necessarily plentiful, or obvious and given. Certain animals, such as cats, which are carnivorous by nature, would simply die if they did not eat meat. Humans, however, can survive on a variety of food from many different sources, and they have the brainpower to make decisions about |

Financial Reporting Standards and PrinciplesThe International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are rules and guidelines established to attempt to standardize accounting and recording practices across the United States and Internationally. While United States has traditionally used GAAP, the ever changing world market makes it necessary for the US to begin to use IFRS in conjunction with or sometimes in place of GAAP. In an effort to standardize fair value measurements for financial instruments, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) implemented a multistep approach to the standards. The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is working to provide standards on a practice that was once unregulated. The IASB and FASB believe if all companies reported financial instruments at fair value, the statements would be more easily understood and transparent. European Colonialism in AfricaAfrica's people and culture have been subject to many external changes that left a trace in the way they think and act nowadays. Conquests, colonization, the slave trade, Arabic and European cultural elements, Islam and Christianity and recently the spread of consumerist society have all transformed Africa for more than 500 years. However, colonization obstructed the internal process of state formation and the development in Africa and left scars of corruption and political instability in its government. Colonial leaders and countries obstructed policies and laws to further deprive certain colonies of its resources. The process of African colonies gaining their independence resulted in human resources. European colonialism evolved benefitted from African markets they had created yet contained the African population. The end result of Imperialism/ colonialism had a negative effect on every aspect of African society. As early as September 1914 Britain forced a rebellion from some 12,000 |

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy EveningAfter reading"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," the reader believes that it is ordinary for an individual to be stopping by woods on a snowy evening. However stopping by woods on the darkest night of the year, the winter solstice, is quite strange. On the night of the winter solstice , a weary traveler stops his curious horse between the woods and a frozen lake to admire the lovely scenery. But the reader then understands the metaphorical meaning of the traveler's description of the woods and his journey that he must continue. The reader concludes that when the speaker of the poem depicts the woods as "lovely dark and deep", and conveys the continuous of his journey " and miles to go before I sleep" he is referring to isolation and menacing death. The summarization of "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" is on the night of the winter solstice, a weary traveler stops his horse for a moment to admire the snow falling in the woods. The lovel |

Teacher Communication TechniquesThere are many ways that a teacher can communicate with a student or with the whole class. To grab the whole classes' attention, because they are talking to one another or being disruptive when the teacher is speaking, Ms. Desiree rings her bell once to quiet them down. When she rings the bell a second time her students automatically but their "catch a bubble" face on because they know when Ms. Desiree rings it twice it is no good. Three rings of the bell indicate all of the students going to their table, to their assigned seat and putting their head down. This is a non-verbal technique used by my cooperating teacher to grab the students' attention. Ms. Desiree uses many non- verbal techniques to communicate with her students. She taught me a few of them too. If one student catches on to what the teacher is doing, then the rest will copycat each other so everyone is on the same page; especially for 3 year olds. Pre-k 3 students'mind always wonders, they are at the age where they must learn how to start doing everything on their own, practicing their handwriting by writing |

Homeschooling - The Worst Way to Learn? With the rise in families turning home schooling into a modern way of education, people in vast numbers are starting to speculate the perks and potholes that arrive with the choice of homeschooling. With a growth rate of 15 percent per year, there are around two million children currently learning at home. Yet what is homeschooling exactly? There are very different teaching methods used with children who have been home schooled. Some children are taught by their parents, mothers mainly in a group. While others have a monthly check-up with teachers where they complete most of their schoolwork independently. Home schooling however forces too many gaps into a child's education, that later leaves high school graduates unprepared when entering college. As a kindergartener's, young children are forced out the house into a world of teachers, letters, numbers, explanations and discipline. Luckily, children who's parents choose home schooling as an option, remain u |

Colonialism in Jane EyreExplore the role of colonialism and 'the other' in Jane Eyre, with particular reference to the characters of Bertha and St. John By 1847, when Jane Eyre was first published, slavery had been abolished for nearly 14 years, and yet themes of racism, colonialism and slavery are prevalent throughout the novel. They show the fraught life of Bertha Mason, the cold-hearted religion of St. John and the similarities Bronte draws between the protagonist Jane and slavery in Africa. In fact, slavery is often used as a metaphor for marginality and I will explore how this overlap of colonial imagery with apparently 'civil' 19th century Britain helps to characterise Jane and helps to exclude Bertha. The theme of colonialism is present before anyone of the so called 'dark races' appears: right from Jane's childhood at Gateshead. In the opening scene she sits in her window seat 'cross-legged, like a Turk' and, whilst clashing with John Reed, calls him 'a slave-driver' |

Poaching - Animal Depletion and ExtinctionHave you ever imagined a world without exotic animals or creatures we as a society are so accustomed to seeing? Channels such as Animal Planet or even Discovery would no longer have a purpose to be on television any longer. We would no longer have the capability of being able to explore a virtual safari land or open Aquatic Ocean from the comforts from our own homes. Majority of the exotic creature of the land will have all been depleted due to an illegal act most commonly known as poaching. Poaching: the illegal practice of trespassing on another's property to hunt or steal game without the landowner's permission. According to Environmental Magazine, in Central Africa during the late 80s, the population of elephants took a major plummet and dropped nearly 75% (Frey 1). It seems as though poaching is not an important issue in many regions and is a problem that quite often over looked. China is the second most well-known region that incorporates poaching in their society. Although the a |

Gender Specific Cartoon AnalysisIn this paper I will be analyzing cartoons that are specific to gender, both boys and girls. I will include things that are used to generalize how a boy or girl should or is expected to behave, dress and or speak. I will also include why these cartoons would be considered a gender specific show by pinpointing what the writers used in the series to display femininity and masculinity and how that helps parents to better choose the types of cartoons they allow both their sons or daughters to watch which also provides some clarity of what is expected of these young children as they grow up. The cartoons that I chose to analyze are Sofia the First which is geared toward girls and Dexter's Laboratory which is geared toward boys. As required, I watched three episodes of each cartoon and analyzed them. I chose to use YouTube as my method of research because it was easier to watch the shows multiple times so that I could better analyze them, but I also used a bit of information from other web |

Short Story - The BeastThe curtains hang in dusty uneven folds, half hanging off the rail in places and only an inch longer than the window itself. They are aged curtains, abused by many years of rough handling and careless indifference. They are barely big enough and as thin as a summer smock. It was not summer. As I released my hold on the curtains, they ever so gracefully settled back against the aged walnut finish of the window sill where a quiet whisper comes whistling through. The beast outside, it seems, was desperately trying to convey its secrets and rumors to me through the ever expanding gaps in the shrinking cracked caulk and the quarter-inch thick single pane of glass that it still tries to maintain a grasp of. This aged and crippled shield that separated my kingdom from the lands of many holds within its twisted frame a view to the starkness and reality of what must be dealt with. The breath of what is waiting on the other side was sharp and piercing like a dagger with a thousand blades and the |

Social Factors of Women and SexThere are many factors that go into shaping a person's identity; whether it was the environment they grew up in, their beliefs, the people they associated with, the activities they partook in or even something as minuscule as their dietary habits, these all assume a small role in defining someone's character. Through Leslie Bell's research as a psychoanalyst, themes of rebellion, religion, lack of confidence, and self-determination in women have provided new explanation and reasoning for why actions create one's identity. In "Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom," Bell focuses on a few of her patients - namely, Jayanthi, Claudia, and Alicia - to further explore and analyze sexual desires, interests, feelings, and relationships. Subcategorized as splitting, Bell labels this as a way to explain a split in the mentality of women; daily actions, events, and encounters that eventually identify women. This includes their expectations |

Ancient Egypt and Han ChinaAll civilizations need vital resources to survive, such as water and food, but what makes a them unique are the different aspects they add to the civilization to make them run smoothly and efficiently. Both Rome and China became influential, independent empires because of their ability to rise to power, advancements in different fields of technology, and their outlook on various religious beliefs. Many civilizations arise because of smaller individual farming communities joining together and making one large urban center. This is the case for Rome, but Han China on the other hand, rose to greatness a little differently than others. Ancient Rome was the product of many hilltop communities coming together to form a village, while China was a pre-existing empire prior to the Hans taking control. Despite the various ways these civilizatio |

Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Indus ValleyA civilization is defined as "An advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture, science, industry, and government has been reached." by Dictionary.com. Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Indus Valley all reached a high level of each of those requirements, just in different ways. Having a civilization that works correctly and can sustain a population increase over time depends a great deal on the location, the use and advancement of technology, and the social structure you that the civilization has. Each of these three ancient civilizations used those three building blocks in a different way that makes the civilization successful. The location of a civilization is probably one of the most, if not the most, important detail to being successful. A civilization that is built just anywhere will not be able to sustain life, much less a growing population. The reason Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Indus Valley were around for so long was because of their excellent locations on the plant. Mesopotamia was located near present day Iraq in the Middle East, surrounded by two rivers, the Euphrates and the Tigris. |

Rime of the Ancient MarinerSamuel Taylor Coleridge is best known for his poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." This poem is popular due to its connection to the religion of Christianity. Coleridge uses clever points of view, tricky sound devices, and fascinating symbolism to create a famous allegory about a troubled mariner and his journey to forgiveness. The author begins the poem instantly as a third-person showing points of view from both the wedding guest and the mariner. The wedding guest would like to go back to the wedding, but the mariner's "glittering eye" keeps him intrigued. As the mariner begins his tale, the reader realizes that the mariner is a prophet or disciple and the wedding guest symbolizes a non-believer of Christianity. In the beginning of his story, the mariner is a greedy man sailing toward |

American Identity in the Romantic EraThe Romantic era contributed greatly to the development of a new American identity. Prior to this time period, America had never necessarily held any distinct cultural identity, yet this age allowed the country to develop its own uniqueness. Due to the influences of American expansionism, the exploration of the frontier, and a growing interest in nature, a new American identity blossomed in the 19th century revolving around the advancement of the United States as a whole. Romantic ideals such as innovation and individualism allowed the country to make constant progress and develop significantly during this era, helping to bring about this new identity. Impetiousity in Romeo and JulietImpetuous characters in the play Romeo and Juliet Impetuosity is a tragic flaw present in the characters of Romeo, Juliet, Lord Capulet and Friar Laurence; this flaw ultimately leads to the deaths Romeo and Juliet. The definition of impetuosity according to Webster Dictionary acting or doing quickly and without thought: controlled by emotion rather than thought. Impetuous people do not think about how their actions may get them in trouble or danger or even harm someone else. The Global Impact of International BusinessThe international business has a great influence to the daily lives of the people in the society in many ways. The global international business has improved the operations of people in terms of access to the business products. Therefore, it is very easy to buy a product without really getting to move to specific areas in search of it. It eases the people from too much expenditure in terms of searching for certain goods and services.International business hence makes life cheaper for local people in the society.
