It was like the streets of India where every family As for me the pressure was on to play for a sport that didn't give that me that much interest but I felt it was the best way to get more socially with peers that I definitely had trouble with at school. I knew I wouldn't really belong to the team as I didn't have what it takes to be skilfully a good player and a good homage for the team. Registrations were up and my friend Sam and I decided to walk to the field where the booking took place. It didn't feel like the best idea at all but I had to prove to people that I could be a good asset to

Sonnet 18 and Suburban Sonnet

Explain how two poems you have studied have conformed to the form or sub-genre in which they were written and how that has affected your reading of the poems Introduction Poetry is a genre of literature where the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensely by use of distinctive style and rhythm. My understanding of form and sun-genre have helped to form/shape my reading of Shakespeare's "Sonnet 18" and Gwen Harwood's "Suburban Sonnet". "Suburban Sonnet" and "Sonnet 18" conforms to the sub-genre of a sonnet through the use of specific generic poetic conventions to put forward the ideas of eternal love and immortal beauty, the stressful trap, role and unwanted stress of motherhood. My readings of the poems have been affected through poetic conventions and techniques, which has allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the ideas presented and develop my reading. "Religion is everywhere. There are no human societies without it, whether they acknowledge it as a religion or not" (Butler). Religion is a part of society that is inescapable. It's everywhere, in our history books and places like churches embody religion. It's imperative that students are aware of world religions. It provides an explanation of events that occurred in history. Religion and religious debates infiltrate lives daily. It is uncommon to open a newspaper or turn on the news channel without being confronted with a current religious or ethical issue such euthanasia or the death penalty. "And because the impact of religious freedom extends beyond the realm of religion and has ramifications for a country's security and its economic and political progress, more students and practitioners of foreign policy need to focus more time and attention on it" (Clinton) The study of religion enables students to be better informed about the world and current affairs.

The Epic of Paradise Lost

John Milton was one of the greatest poets of his age and perhaps of all ages. He was undoubtedly an artist of acute sensibility, subtlety of mind and superb human insight which is quite evident in his poetic works. In fact, no other writer of his age can surpass or even equal him in the range of his material, the sublimity of style, highly reflective themes and above all the excellent use of poetic techniques. As far as 'Paradise Lost' is concerned, it is a master piece of Milton's creative and artistic accomplishment, revealing many glorious and sublime elements; but the most conspicuous one is his imitation of great giants like Homer and Virgil. In fact, 'Paradise Lost' has been attributed as one of the greatest epic poems ever composed in English literature; vividly bestowing the highest efforts of poetic genius. However, in order to justify it as a great epic, one should be fully conversant with all its chief ingredients. It is often said that an epic in general, ancie

The Canterbury Tales: The Prologue

The stories conveyed in The Canterbury Tales are observations on certain facets of the Church described by Chaucer. He transmits a vibe that he believes the Church is an institution organized as a business indicating greed and where money is more important than religion. His concept of the Church is revealed through an array of religious figures and how certain characters deviate from their expected pious responsibilities. Chaucer presents these unethical pilgrims ironically as noble and pleasant with judicious characteristics. As they fail to serve the Church he speaks of the differences between the impressions the clergy's describe with their true character. Chaucer points out the hypocrisy of the Church the Nun, the Friar and the Pardoner as corrupt clergy members. Though Chaucer describes the Nun as refined and compassionate, her manners are inappropriate to religious beliefs. She worries about her particular appearance instead of having an unconcerned attitude "Her wimple was pleated

The Cycle of Oppression

The most obvious forms of oppression in the fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee are stereotyping, deprivation of rights and materials, and denial of equal access or opportunities. To Kill a Mockingbird is set during the 1930s during the Great Depression and post-World War Ⅱ. During the Great Depression, colored people found it much harder to find work because of their skin color, and many reverted to being field hands and doing many jobs that used to be considered slave labor in the 1770s to the 1830s. Colored families faced an unemployment rate that was much higher than whites, which caused many to be forced into poverty stricken homes and to settle in small towns where there were less whites and hopefully more jobs. The colored families were met with passive aggressive racism in these towns, but were often given jobs, and the towns like Maycomb from To Kill a Mockingbird soon settled into an easy soft spoken racist mindset. This novel by Harper Lee covers and goes i

A tragic hero can also be characterized as someone whose punishment exceeds their crime, their increase in awareness on part of the hero, and their tragedy doesn't leave its audience in a state of depression. Some believe that Willy Loman is not what is called a tragic hero due to his many failures as a father and husband, but he actually is a good example of what would be entitled a tragic hero because of his his flaws, which lead to his downfall. These elements prove how although possessing many common qualities that are of an average man, he still can be characterized as a true tragic hero. Willy Loman's sequence of life events stems from his fatal character flaws. The fir

The Consequences of Cheating on Exams

Historically, the ethical behaviour was the key of success in education. Recently though, the situation has been changing. Cheating has become a global phenomenon and has taken incredible dimensions in the educational sector. Obviously, this unethical practice directly affects the students' environment. However, the main issue is that students can not perceive why cheating is wrong particularly if they believe that their grades reflect how good they are. One cannot but notice that we live in the waste Land 1 where cheating invaded our life: sports, video games, politics, financial industry and relationships. For instance, our society seems to promote that you can do anything leading to success. This results in the absence of any sense of moral structure in students' life. The academic institution has become involved in that perennial issue and higher education is misrepresented. Seemingly, the situation of parents is growing more difficult with grading pressure and long-term disadvanta

Autonomous labor could mean big changes in the future of the workforce. Robots are on a steady slope to eliminate millions of jobs over the coming decades. Food will be raised by robotic vehicles, even in small plot urban farms that will become the norm, since so many people will have lost their jobs to 'bots. Equality and Liberty in American Society

Equality and liberty is desirable in contemporary American society but you can't have both. Americans today tend to define liberty as the freedom for people to do what they want. We also tend to believe that liberty is important to personal fulfillment and happiness. However the widely accepted principle of freedom is that we are free to do whatever we want as long as we do not have negative impacts on other people's freedom. The statement "All men are created equal" which can be found in The Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson was all about America's freedom and rights from the hands of the King of Great Britain. Jefferson focus was only on white man as he made such statement that "All men are created equal" excluding black man and women who at that time were viewed as inferior to white man. However The Declaration of Sentiments written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, added to Jefferson's statement in contradiction that "both men and women are c
