Enterprise-Level Business System

When looking at an enterprise-level business system there are quite a few key areas that should be reviewed. Often when looking at early stages of the system usually in regards to the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) it can be very inefficient and costly if not done correctly. In looking to address this you can make sure to have careful planning during the very early stages of the system being crucial is really an understatement you need a proper foundation for anything to flourish from the development. In looking at the need to address this making use of information-gathering methods are a must when analyzing and determining possible requirements. What we will be doing is looking at some of the information-gathering techniques that would be available to assist in this process of gathering information. In the following we will also look at how useful business processing mapping methods can be and which one is more applicable during the analysis process. This will be an overall revi

My Autobiography

My name is ____ and I would like to share about my ethnicity. I moved to New Jersey, United States of America straight from the Philippines, located in Southeast Asia. I am included as an Asian. I have come across people think we should be called Pacific Islander. I have tried to explain that Pacific Islander has nothing to do with my ethnicity, but geographic location. Most of the Philippines Island is not situated in the Pacific Ocean, and therefore we are not Pacific Islanders. I grew up in Pangasinan, northern part of the Philippines. Our main language in the Philippines is tagalog. I speak Ilocano dialect which is related to the languages Indonesian, Malay, Hawaiian, and more. I spoke my dialect since then and will still use it with family and other people I meet that speak the same. Back in the Philippines, we were taught how to write and speak English language. I graduated High School in the Philippines and continued my college education here with my bachelor's degree. For my

Film Review - Cinema Paradiso

The film Cinema Paradiso is an Italian drama that was written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. As a general synopsis of the film the story opens with a scene of famous Italian filmmaker Salvatore Di Vita (Jacques Perrin) returning to his home on a late night. His current girlfriend tells him that his mother called to tell him someone named Alfredo has died. Salvatore goes into shock and the majority of the rest of the film is told through flashback stories of Salvatore's childhood when he lived in the small village of Giancaldo, Sicily. Nicknamed Toto the younger Salvatore (Salvatore Cascio) falls in love with film at the local movie house called Cinema Paradiso. There he befriends the much older projectionist Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). Toto's father is presumably dead from serving in World War II and Alfredo becomes a father like figure to him throughout the early years of his life. The adolescent Salvatore Di Vita (acted by Marco Leonardi) is required for military service and when

Relationships Between Native Americans and Europeans

Throughout North America the tribes and cultures of Native Americans varied according to their geographical location. These cultures began to be disrupted with the immigration of European settlers. The three main cultures that emigrated from Europe to North America were the Spanish, English colonists, and the French. While all of these Europeans had their differences, they all believed to be superior to the Native Americans. The relationships and attitudes between the Europeans and Natives varied, however, the common goal was to create a New World. Spain began its settlement of North America with St. Augustine, Florida in 1565. They expanded north into present day Georgia and west through the Florida panhandle. This expansion was short lived due to the strong resistance from the Native American tribes in the area who allied with the French. Despite the frequent attacks from the Indians and the French, the Spanish chose not to abandon Florida. After lobbying from the Franciscan

Youth in the NAACP

Abstract: The success of any organization relies upon its future leaders and the NAACP is no exception to this. This paper will discuss the importance of establishing young, educated, and enthusiastic activists. These are the types of people that have the potential to be the next great leaders. Injection of new ideas will determine the outcome and success of any establishment, especially those that have been around as long as the NAACP. "Our civil rights institutions need leadership from those who are most invested in tomorrow" (Tatum, 2007, p. 12). Have the strategies and battles of the NAACP and other similar organizations grown old and tired? There are African-American leaders out there who have dedicated their early lives to the NAACP, such as Sammie Dow, a member who has been a participant within the NAACP since junior high. He stated "looking at leadership development, organizing training opportunities, looking at how we provide tool-kits and resources for youn

Perceptions on Contemporary Popular Music

There are lots of new contemporary songs out now a-days and my perception on some of these songs are not always too good. I feel like a lot of songs in my generation are a lot less pointless and generic, however there are sometimes when I really do feel a certain song is meaningful and I enjoy it. Sometimes I feel like it is the beat that I like the most other times I feel like it is the lyrics. Every once in a while there is a song that has both of those qualities; a great beat and an amazing lyrical performance. Pharrell is one of the many Contemporary artist around right now, he is featured in the song happy. Happy is one the few songs that I can actually get going too. I would not say it is the best song out there right now, but I would say that song is played a lot at dance parties and clubs. I have this opinion because this song has a great hip beat to it. The lyrics are actually not bad either, it starts off with a pretty good rhyme that goes like this "It might seem crazy what I'm 'bout to sa

Children and War

Millions of children worldwide are affected by armed conflict. They are confronted with physical harm, violence, danger, exploitation, fear and loss. Many children are forced to escape, some witness the death of loved one and some are forced to pull the trigger themselves. Communities are ripped apart and can no longer provide a secure environment for children. Adults are busy surviving; parents have little time for their children. Schools and playgrounds are damaged or taken over by armed groups. During war, children rights are violated on a very huge range; their rights to be protected from violence, abuse and neglect, to live in dignity and be supported to develop to their full potential. As a consequence of war, children can lose their confidence, their trust in others and their trust in the future. They often become anxious, depressed, withdrawn, rebellious and aggressive because of what they experience during the war. There is a lot to talk about when it comes to effects of war

African and African-American Culture

Is it a disbelief that many Africans think African-Americans are lazy, ghetto, wild, careless, untrustworthy, devious, and they are continuously complaining about racism when everything has been given to them? For an African-American this question may be insulting but at the same time it is unfortunate that in fact many African-Americans are perceived this way probably because African Immigrants are brought up with different morals and values. All though, it is just a stereotype to say all African-Americans are lazy, African Immigrants that come in contact with African-Americans may sometimes believe this stereotype is true just based on their interaction with one person. Some people may think Africans and African-Americans are alike or the same because of their similar skin color but in fact, the two could not be more different. Many African immigrants and African-Americans misunderstand each other due to the huge cultural differences. The first major problem between the two group

A Life Without Pain

Imagine a life without pain. No one would live with disease, nor would our loved ones die. Every day would be comfortable and carefree. There would be no heartbreak or broken bones, no headaches or discomfort. Smiles would be plentiful, while tears would be scarce. A life without pain seems like a perfect life; however, it's far from it. Just like life would mean nothing without death, pleasure would mean nothing without pain. Negative connotations are often associated with pain, and we neglect the good within this word. Pain is a human emotion, an unpleasant sensation. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pain as a noun with two different meanings. In one way pain is defined as the physical feeling caused by disease, injury, or something that hurts the body. The second definition states pain as a mental or emotional suffering. The definition of pain is vague; it tells us what causes it, but does not tell us the effects or what exactly pain feels like. Physical Pain is breaking a leg

Similarities of Candy's Dog and Lennie Small

Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two migrant workers who move around to find job opportunities during the Great Depression in California. In Of Mice and Men, the killing of Lennie and Candy's Dog are symbolic physically and non-physically. Both Candy's dog and Lennie were killed in a way that made them feel no pain. They were both shot in the back of the head at the base of the skull. They were both shot with the same gun, Carlson's Lugar. They both where sick; Lennie is mentally and Candy's dog is physically. Neither of them saw it coming. Carlson took Candy's dog out into the woods in the middle of the night when it was dark and George made sure Lennie was distracted and thinking of happy thoughts. Candy's dog was shot to put it out of its misery and pain. Nobody liked Candy's dog coming inside the cabin and stinking it up. The dog could not help it, but everyone responde

Five Stages of Group Development

Groups tend to develop in five different stages. While working with members of a class or any group of people who are working together to accomplish an objective, you will begin to notice the progression. Knowing what to look for and how to manage the challenges that a group may encounter can have a considerable impact on how your group progresses. As with many things, group progression is not always as neat and tidy as it should be. Often time's groups will deteriorate in its early stages if it faces a serve change. For example if a group member were to leave or if additional member were to be added. The orientation stage referred to as the forming stage is the first step in-group development. Throughout this stage group members are learning what to do, h

Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea

Jane Eyre is a well-known gothic English novel publishes during the Victorian period by Charlotte Bronte. The novel contains the social criticism of sexuality, religion and feminist, which considered to be ahead of its time. In Wide Sargasso Sea, Jean Rhys has written a prequel to Jane Eyre. It mainly focuses on Bronte character Bertha, the mad wife who is not given a chance to speak out for herself in Jane Eyre. Both novels focus on the feminist issue in different ways; Rhys portrays Antoinette's struggle for identity within herself under patriarchal society, making her constrained and dies at the end. In the other hand, Bronte portrays Jane, rising against the societal oppression, due to her sense of self-worth and faith. Jane Eyre is narrated by one point of view, thus everything is clear who is good or bad through one perspective. For Wide Sargasso Sea, it is narrated by different point of views, the reader cannot be certain which characters are good or bad, it allows the readers t

A Study in Conformity

Replicating Asch (1951) conformity experiment, Candid Camera program "Face the rear" revealed our tendency to mindlessly follow the dictates of group norms and situational forces in the elevator. (Zimbardo, 2007). We would like to replicate the elevator experiment to evaluate the reasons and theories behind conformity in daily life. Nave participants were expected to conform to our uncommon behavior by facing inward in an elevator. A small percentage of them did. This report will provide the project summary and critical evaluation in the latter part. Introduction We live under a society where our behavior is under the control of unwritten social norms, which reign over appropriate elevator demeanor. Under some circumstances, conformity manifests its power to influence us to make wrong decisions. Sometimes we lose the confidence to voice out correct answer and follow the majority blindly. McLeod (2009) defined conformity as a type of social influence involving a change in behavior in o

The Unhappy Meal

In the last decade obesity has become an out of control epidemic. America has been ranked number one in a top ten list of the world's most obese countries. Fast food restaurants are one of the main causes due to the unhealthy, addictive food it provides to its customers. Since fast food franchises have been expanding at such a rapid rate, it now makes it harder to live a healthy dietary lifestyle. Personally, I believe children should be restricted from such highly fattening and sugar filled foods. Just like you would not give a child a cup of coffee, why would it be okay to give them a can of soda with even more caffeine, sugar, and other unhealthy ingredients contained in it. Not saying the innutritious food should only be off limits to children. Although while they're so young with no choice of what to eat besides what the parents feed them, they should know only healthy eating habits. As it's known

Nurse Ratched - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

The film adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest portrays a mental hospital where the patients housed within are constrained by use of medication and a controlling nurse who reduces the patients' wills to that of children. The patients continually berate one another, which effectively draws each one to further seclusion within himself. In an institution where no one seems concerned with curing patients, Nurse Ratched seems content to break the will of each patient, making them docile. In this manner, the hospital's day-to-day routine stifles all free will instead of creating comfort. The arrival of a new patient, R.P. McMurphy, creates notice immediately in the ward, as he acts animated and alive. Due to McMurphy's behavior, the other patients start to gradually wake up to their surroundings and to the methods that are used to control them. However, as Nurse Ratched feels her control slipping, she makes continued attempts to grasp on tighter. She uses fear to control her patients

Evolution of Child Behavior

Studies have found that children's behavior has changed over the years and is getting worse every day. Many devices such as social media, television and video games are a general cause of this poor behavior. These TV shows, video games and websites continuously mold children's minds into thinking that what they see on those screens are real life. It seems as though children have developed violent characteristics and are not being raised with the proper morals and manners that they should have. Parents today do not seem to be as strict as they used to be over the last 20 years. The stats from the 1980s to now have substantially changed, proving this theory to be true. For example, there are three times as many children with behavioral problems today than there was 20 years ago (BBC News, June 2000) A lot of these children today are growing up in unstable, dysfunctional homes, causing some of these problems. Teen pregnancy has also increased in the last decade and most of the

The Parables of Jesus

During the life of Jesus while he was on earth his ministry was mostly composed of parables. At the beginning of Jesus' ministry he was teaching in synagogues where he was welcomed by the people. He was banished to teach in the church but he still continued to bring the word of the lord. "A parable will have only one point. A parable is not an allegory; and allegory is a story in which every possible detail has an inner meaning; but an allegory has to be read and studied, while a parable is heard " (Barclay). There are many purposes behind why the parables were written. One reason was to hide the hardness in people's heart during that time by concealing the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven from the people. Another purpose was to reveal, with the help of the Lords parables the people will begin to understand the kingdom of heaven. The parables teach us about different situations and how we should live our lives. There are several different parables that have been recovered from Jesus'

The Impact of Huricane Katrina

1. Hurricane Katrina was one of the largest urban disasters in history. The response time for organizations and the recovery time for the area overall was extremely disheartening for many. The extended response time and ineffective planning left many without homes and unable to resume the lives they had. The area was plagued with power outages and consequent of this; looting and crime became an overwhelming issue and a main area of focus instead of rescuing people (United States, 2005). There were many factors that played into the rebuilding process and the delayed assimilation of residents. One areas of great instability was temporary housing for displaced people, it not on

The Branding of Detroit

Eric Kipp Professor Makki Comp 106-101 June 27, 2014 Branding of Detroit As a resident of the city of Detroit for all of my adult life, it pains to me to see the state of disarray that this city is in. More importantly is the stigma that it leaves on this entire region as a whole. There has much talk about comebacks, rebuilding and how slow the entire process is painstakingly going to be. But all of this just seemed to be the same old rhetoric as far as I was concerned. There would be bright spots such as hosting the MLB All-Star game in 2005, Super Bowl XL in 2006 and the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four in 2009. But, unfortunately with all of these steps forward it always seemed that we would take several steps in the wrong direction afterwards. The steps backwards ranged from text message scandals in the mayor's office to the bankruptcy of what was "In 1950, Detroit was the  wealthiest city in America  on a per capita income basis. God and the Great Spirit

When Christopher Columbus sailed in 1492 he connected two worlds so vastly different that they might as well have been from far ends of the universe. Native Americans, as they came to be known, were a people very much integrated with the land they lived on and saw themselves as a part of it. The European settlers that came decades after Columbus were quite different. Though they were not conquerors, they were bred in societies that instilled the beginnings of imperialist values. In their eyes, land was to be conquered and made into an appropriate settlement that could eventually be called home. While many factors would play into the relationship between the Native Americans and the White European Settlers, their views on God would arguably be paramount to their animosity, as it is through one's relationship with a God or many gods that every other relationship on this earth is made. While the religions of both of these societies taught that almighty forces ruled the fates of their live

The Hypocrisy of American Slavery

The hypocrisy of American Slavery was delivered on July 5, 1852 in Rochester, New York. Douglas's speech spurred the motivation of blacks towards their struggle for slavery emancipation and the same time ridiculing white's hypocrisy and double standards towards blacks. The speech shows the United States as a nation that was celebrating independence and freedom but also enslaving blacks. To convey the message clearly Douglass used various literacy techniques and styles in the speech to better help convince the audience. Douglass used ethos, pathos, irony, and rhetorical question which helped the audience visualize and memorize the main points discussed in his speech. Fredrick Douglas's speech in 1852 was full of rhetorical appeals and canons that helped in the abolishment of slavery and slave trade all across the world. The first rhetorical aspect Douglass utilized in his speech was pathos. Pathos shows the emotional power of the speech. An example Douglass used is when he says, "For who is there so cold, that a nations sympathy could not warm him? Who so obdurate and dead to the claims of gratitude, which would not t

Racism and Diversity in College

No matter how the topic is brought up, diversity is a touchy subject. It is something that people are all aware of, yet it rarely seems to be brought up in a positive way. Diversity is usually described along with the down falls and struggles within communities. In the article "The Downside of Diversity " by Michael Jonas, he talks about how Robert Putnam's experiment done about diversity suggests that more diverse communities struggle to come together as a community. Author of "Camus Racism 101 ", Nikki Giovanni suggests something along the same lines as Putnam. She does this by often having a sarcastic response to the questions regarding diversity. An example of this would be what white and black college students ask and how a black student may sarcastically answer. "Q: Why do all the black people sit together in the dining hall? A: Why do all the white people sit together? " (Giovanni). The same questions are being asked, but the problem is few actually try to find a solution or ma

Federal Law Title IX

America is a land of opportunity, equality and freedom. It is a place where people can come and have rights and be able to do the things they want to do, and be who they want to be. Title IX of the education amendments act of 1972 was set up for that reason. Title IX is a federal law that states, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." I will argue between two articles: The article "How a Good Law Went Terribly Wrong" by Christina Hoff Sommers, and the article "Prohibiting Sex Discrimination in Schools." I chose to write about Title IX, not because I noticed any equality improvements, but because I still see sex discrimination in schools even though we have an issued law that prohibits it. Title IX is a good benefit to a lot of discriminations in schools, but why is
